If I could give this place a less than poor review, I would. My friend suggested this place today and I agreed not knowing anything about it. I had my daughter and granddaughter with me. There is absolutely nothing on the menu for children - which is fine. She is very young toddler and can share any of our plates. The food choices are limited at best and certainly not anything that would be appetizing to a toddler. The portions are extremely small - which is fine; Americans overeat anyway. However, I expect the pricing to be in line with the portion size. My "caramelized" pear salad had 1/4 of a pear sliced up and they were canned pairs with sugar on them. There was about 1/3 cup of greens, 1 piece of a pine nut and about 1 tablespoon of blue cheese. The butternut squash soup was the most tasteless and bland soup Ive ever tried - absolutely no flavor. Im a very good cook, so I expect a restaurant to be at least ALMOST as good as what I can make at home! We ate outside because the inside of the old house was absolutely sub zero temperatures. We got our food after about a 30 minute wait (for 2 sandwiches and a salad). Then we had to go in ourselves twice to get silverware and a side dish to share our food with our toddler. Two different servers were asked for items and neither followed through. The place was NOT busy. When I paid the bill, they charged me $2.25 for the toddlers drink and it was a regular sized glass, but filled only 1/4 of the way. They charged .75 for a slice of motz cheese on my daughters sandwich, but didnt take any money off for the hummus that she asked to them to leave off. Really? Just substitute one for the other in the name of good customer service. Dont get me started on the customer service. When I got my bill for $58 for 2 sandwiches and a salad/soup combo, I mentioned to the cashier (also my server) that it was very high priced for lunch for 3 people. She said that I was paying for quality. I looked closer at the ticket and realized she had given me someone elses ticket, which I pointed out to her. She then argued with me that she was right and it took some skills to convince her that between the 3 of us (and an unfed toddler), we really only had 3 meals, not the 5 she was trying to get me to pay for. This place has terrible customer service, the food is definitely NOT high quality, it is WAY over priced and the atmosphere IS great if you want to feel like you are at your grandmas house. Subway does a better job than this place! What a complete rip off. If the owner had a conscience, he/she would look at the reviews on this website and either make some adjustments or close the place altogether and stop ripping off the unsuspecting public. I think Ill stick with the restaurants in Sugar House where I live where youll find fair prices, good food and lots of selection for all kinds of dietary needs. This Food for Thought place could take a lesson from The Blue Plate Diner, Shanghai, or even someplace as simple as The Tea Grotto. OK, enough said. I hate this place and will never go back and hope you dont either!

Waaaaaaaay overpriced for what you get and poor service. I dont know what the attraction is to this place. My husband and 6 year old daughter went in yesterday for lunch. We each got the Southwest Chicken Salad and my daughter the grilled cheese sandwich kids meal. The salad was by far the worse salad Ive ever gotten (and was close to $10). It was made with wet iceberg lettuce, cold corn, cold black beans, and the chicken that looks like it comes from a can at Costco. Seriously! That was it! It wasnt even good with the dressing (which they had forgotten to bring out initially). Oh, I forgot the very stale tortilla chips that were placed around the salad. My daughters sandwich looked like it was made from white Wonder bread, and they put it with a pack of Lays potato chips---that was it. Nothing special at all. The kids meal was $9.00!! No dessert or anything to go with it. We ended up buying her a sugar cookie (for $5). Even at 6 years old, she said that her lunch was gross. We were extremely disappointed. We had wanted to try something different than our regular Corner Bakery, Kneaders, etc. and immediately wish that we hadnt. Even the service was poor----the girl who sat us and took our order mumbled the entire time and we couldnt hear a word she said. The girl who brought out our check was extremely rude especially when we asked to see the itemized bill since we were shocked at the price of our lunch (over $50 and that was with my husband and I only drinking water). We will never be back! I dont understand what the big deal about this place is. I know this is Draper but basically its just a bunch of womens chatter and their screaming babies echoing through the small rooms in the tiny house. I would save your money and go somewhere that has much better food, a better environment, better service, and overall just better for your money!

I came with a group of eight, and I felt that we may have overwhelmed their employees. On the other-hand, Im sure the experience is tons better with a group of two or three. We were placed outside (Im sure for such a small building there wouldnt be enough room to accommodate us). It was a nice day, so we didnt mind. One unfortunate occurrence was that the waitress had mistakenly forgotten to take the order of one of our group members. That individual ended up going in and requesting their order at the register. I did find the prices a little higher than I was anticipating (I ordered their Turkey Bacon Avocado Sandwich with Chips). When the food had come out, they promptly brought all of our orders with the exception of one. They never told her it was on the way, just at the point that she was ready to get up and find out the status of her food it came out. I did notice that my bag of chips was expired by one whole day. I didnt mind, just like a person attempting to survive in a post-apocalyptic world where food is scarce wouldnt mind. Now the Real Question: Would I go back? The answer is conditional: Yes, if I came across a new found fortune where I could afford a sandwich, chips, and a strawberry lemonade for around $14.

We have been eating at Food For Though for years, and we have yet to be disappointed. The food has always been a favorite of ours, especially the butternut squash soup and the toasted cheese sandwich. In the last few years the owners have been renovating and improving the overall experience of the cafe. With the creation of the new drive thru makes it easier and faster to get the food that we love. The service is always great, though when it gets busy getting our food takes a little bit longer. But the waiters are always helpful and kind, and the owner, who is often roaming around, is always very nice and will often ask customers how the cafe could further improve, in regards to food and the overall feel of the cafe. I would strongly suggest Food For Thought to anyone who is in the mood for delicious food and a good eating experience. The craft drinks and coffee is always amazing, and the hot chocolate is Incredible. Food For Thought is one of the best cafes in Utah, and the food is reasonably priced. It is a great place to eat!
