Post 2013 Review: Though this location has yet to catch up in quality to the other Texas locations, I still think its a good place to check out. In the past few years the craft beer scene has picked up quite a bit here in San Antonio. Along with the growth of beer lovers has come positive change at this Flying Saucer location. I have noticed the service has definitely gotten much much better. The servers actually know a bit about the different beer styles. That is a huge change from a couple years ago where they couldnt tell the diffidence between a porter or a bock. If you can make it out to one of the nights they have a good fire sale or half off pints its definitely worth it. The food has been alright but nothing special. Fortunately pairing a mediocre burger with a fine beer makes the experience much better. I love the fact you can bring dogs on the patio- that alone is why I find myself coming back here more often. Prior 2009 Review: I have been a huge Flying Saucer fan for the Houston and Austin locations. Unfortunately I can not say much of the same for the San Antonio location. This location has no where near the draft lineup as the other two Texas locations. The local beers is where they are really lacking variety. I was also disappointed with the staff and pricing. The beers were actually marked more expensive than the other locations!!! example: The large Blue Label Chemay was $17 where at Austin/Houston locations I believe have them around 12/market price. They also have a lot of beers not available for 3 dollar pint night or Texas pint night. The two servers that I made contact with did not know there beers as well as I would have expected. When I asked them what the specials were they both gave me pieces of paper with several beers jotted down. If the papers they gave me were correct and showed the same beers it would have been one thing but both had different beers. Overall I was very disappointed with this location and hope in the future it will improve with local selection, pricing, and service.

The Flying Saucer is my favorite pub/bar if you can it that. Im not into sports and dont like cigarettes. They have the occasional sports game on TV, but the Flying Saucer is calm most the time and cigarette free inside. Tuesday nights is Trivia night, you can win a free bar tab. Wednesday night is glass night, breweries sometimes show up and give glasses with the purchase of their beers. Monday is pint night, anything on draft is on sale, and Sunday is Texas beer night. They also have hassle-free wifi, a dog friendly patio, and outdoor heaters for when it gets cold. The beer menu cycles seasonally and the food menu is revised every so often. The draw is not just the specials each night, and the beer club, but the fact that the food is actually restaurant quality food. I dont mind sitting down and eating dinner at the Flying Saucer. My favorite item is the Veggie Burger or (Hippie Burger) with a meat patty substitution. This probably sounds nuts.. but the vegetarian burger comes with a pesto mayo, red onions, sliced cucumbers, tomato, and toasted bun. When you put a meat patty in this burger its just amazing, and theres nothing else on the menu like it. For side dishes my favorite is the rocket tots, which are tater tots with cheese and peppers in them. My 2nd & 3rd favorite entrees are the Big Dipper which is a french dip sandwich, and the Buffalo wings with ranch and carrots. Service is excellent and the food is consistently great. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this place. If you do have a problem ask for management, or submit a report on their website. They will make it right. The Flying Saucer is the ultimate in customer service. Over the years Ive had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know many of the managers, waitresses, and kitchen staff. Everyone has always been friendly. Its a great place to hang out, dine, drink, and play trivia..

2 stars because its a cool environment, good food, and some nice waitresses. This was one of our favorite hang out spots, except they are always out of the beers I wanted to try & seem kind of unorganized at times. Sometimes well get a snooty waitress, but that happens everywhere, so we put up with it. But what really made me never want to come her again was they said we cant have our well-behaved, leash-trained cat in the patio area. Meanwhile, they have dogs jumping on people as they walk by & also *laying on the benches*, which is a clearly posted rule being violated, & yet there is nothing about not having a cat, but they expect him to sit in the car or for us to leave? Rude. We even purposely sat as far away from any dogs as possible since a lot of people dont train their dogs well & we didnt want to excite them. Weve been to plenty of patio bars that allow you to bring a leashed cat, which makes sense because well behaved cats are way less disruptive than dogs. Cats dont stink, bark, or jump on people as they walk by, & a cat that is trained well enough to walk on a leash will not be acting disruptive in anyway. Very disappointed.

We love Sundays here for the specials (3.00 Texas beers!) but today we found a pubic hair before right before we were to eat our pretzel... Before today this was a five star place. Thankfully we returned the pretzel before taking a bite. We decided against food and continued with the drinks. Staff was nice, it wasnt our waitresss fault. She was very nice and apologetic but it wasnt her fault, clearly the cook was doing something weird or was a beard hair. Either way we were not taking any chances we returned it. And are still here just drinking. Wishing we could have had a delicious pretzel. (Only taking off a star for the pubic hair, we come here often and have not ever had issues). Im a bit upset the manager or staff didnt offer to compensate for our drinks or at least offer, the manager didnt even come and speak with us after the waitress said she was going to notify them. Overall, Flying Saucer is a place we enjoy going. We are hoping that this is just an isolated incident. Either way its still pretty gross. We wont ever look at a pretzel the same way again...

REVIEW IS FOR THE FOOD PRODUCTS, NOT BEER OR ENVIRONMENT RELATED... So Im new to the area and decided to use UberEats to discover some local food places (I wasnt aware of the nature of this brewery, to be fair I was expecting a food based establishment). I ordered the 10 piece Buffalo wings($12) along with a dessert (Tiny brownie and a half scoop of ice cream $7.99) The food arrived and it was the worst wings Ive had in my life! The wings were impossible to eat because it felt like bone shards were mixed in the breaded parts, im not sure how old they were but they were still warm on arrival and tasted incredibly dry! I never waste food but after eating 3 of these I forced myself to stop because I knew it couldnt be good for my body (good call I got strong stomach pains shortly after and threw up a few times) So in the end I spent over $20 on some of the worst food Ive had in my life and got nausea for the night.. They must have amazing beer because I dont see how their reviews are pleasant..
