This restaurant doesnt even deserve a one star rating. Where do we start... We are native San Antonians and this was by far the worst food of our lives! Everything we were served (total of 10+ items) was incredibly bland, and salt couldnt even help the fact. The corn tortillas were so sour and off-putting that we both spit them out. After we "finished" our meal, we headed over to a real Mexican restaurant to get the taste out of our mouth. As for the service, it could use some work. We went Friday evening and the place was empty... What was taking so long?? We asked the waitress if we could sub out one of the sides for vegetables which was an extra charge. This was fine until I saw the small portion of roasted vegetables (less than half a cup) and a large charge for them. To top it off, the bill had a mysterious extra charge aside from the vegetables which the waitress replied "oh sometimes they charge people extra for stuff". Are you serious? Not even an apology. Healthy food can taste delicious but this restaurant puts "health food" to shame. Please do not waste your time and money here.

Love the atmosphere, the decor was very festive and I received prompt service from a friendly staff. I like that they had vegetarian and vegan options for their customers. Now downside. Very bland. Blandness and loss of seasoning doesnt equate to being healthy. The guacamole tasted like it came out of the package and the beans tasted like they came out of a can. Salt is not the only thing that can be used. Lemon juice, vinegar, seaweed and other seasonings that provide health benefits as well as flavor can and should be used. I hope that the blandness will change because it left me and my daughter sad and regretting our choice. Maybe the cooks should have a class or something. Experiments need to be done to up the taste factor.

THE worst lunch of my life. I went to adelante. The veggies looked like they were about to rot, the guac looked like guac that had been out for at least six hours, food was so bland it was like eating cardboard, the sauces were so runny you could barely taste them and they dont take card. Oh and service was horrible. Spent 20 minutes waiting on the waitress to just get a water. Only time I have ever sseriously considered skipping out on a check. This location is literally right down the street from me and I would rather spend the money on gas to go across town and back than spend another dollar at Adelante.

I have been a regular since they opened, over 20 years ago. The food has never once varied from their standard of total excellence. I have thoroughly enjoyed everything Ive ever ordered. It is my favorite restaurant, and the favorite of both of my kids as well. It is worth a visit just to see the interior, which was designed and executed by the owners. The only caveat is: If you have a taste for lard, bacon, and lots of animal fat in your diet, you may be disappointed. But if you want creative, healthful, and utterly delicious Mexican food, this is the place!

This is the worst food Ive tasted in a long time. You can be vegetarian and still use some spices; nothing had any flavor. There are so many traditional Mexican vegetarian dishes available, and yet this restaurant had none of those. Just because you wrap vegetables in a tortilla, does not make it Mexican fare. Another negative, no credit cards taken. We were so embarrassed to have to rely on our guests good nature, simply because they had cash, and we didnt. Ill never go to this restaurant again.

2 words describe this restaurants food: healthy & bland. This restaurant has very healthy food. However, it comprises the taste and flavor. Everything and I mean everything is almost completely tasteless. I found myself reaching for the salt and pepper shaker over and over. The inside décor and wait staff are nice. This restaurant has been around for over 21 years so its doing something right. The last time I ate here was 8 years ago. I remember it being bland but nothing like this.

Wow! Being a vegetarian was never so rewarding as when I found Adelante. Id heard about Adelante for years, and could not believe the rave reviews that I kept hearing. They lived up to their reputation as the best Mexican Food in San Antonio, with the most chill, friendly ambiance Ive seen in a Mexican food restaurant lately! Cant wait to go back to San Antonio so that I can enjoy Adelantes other entrees. . .

The food here is great and comes out of the kitchen quick! Like others have said, they make everything without salt so if it seems a little bland just sprinkle some salt on it and BAM! The flavors in the quesadillas are amazing and I go back every week for more. Truly a great little restaurant with fun ambiance and courteous staff. Just dont forget your cash since they dont take cards!

Adelante is a great place! Friendly Unique Fresh made to order real food ... clean food that is healthy. My people have loved n enjoyed Adelante for 30 years. The owner who is in the kitchen daily is a sweet friendly treasure. This is no place for closed minded automatons perverted by TrumPutin intolerance. I m heading to Adelante right now. Yum Yum JD

Adelantes is our favorite restaurant. I am vegetarian but my husband is not. We both really enjoy everything we order every time. I have never ordered anything that turned out to be bland. Yes we do sometimes add salt but adding salt after food is cooked is way healthier than eating food already full of salt. We will return many times and take our friends.

Ordering vegan at this neighborhood restaurant was a whole lot easier than I expected. The menu had many options and the waitress was helpful with any questions. My veggie tacos were awesome and were definitely appetizing . Beer selection was good, and the decor was crazy fun! Definitely recommend this as an alternative to cooking your own vegan dinner!

I was visiting San Antonio and was looking for something that wouldnt leave me feeling quite heavy. When I read that Adelante cooked the food with less salt, I was intrigued. I dont cook with much salt and most restaurant food is overly salted. I enjoyed the change from the usual mexican food and was pleased with the friendly and fast service.

The healthy options are really what I like about this place. If youre craving a big plate of comforting cheese enchiladas after a bad breakup or a really rough semester - dont go here. But if you want some good Mexican food that wont leave you feeling guilty, this is IT. Plus, this place oozes Austin weirdness, so its a win-win.

Cash requirement is extremely inconvenient and they do not have an ATM. Even food trucks take card! They were severely understaffed with only one server, who by turns was either very polite or extremely rude, probably due to the stress. Food was hit and miss. I am not coming back.

The food was delicious and the service was great! Only two minor complaints. The only "hot" sauce they have is the bland salsa they serve with the chips. Also, they dont take cards which I think is an inconvenience to the customer.
