This is a really cool place. It is hidden down in Port Neches by the boat ramp and the park. I ate there on a saturday night so, it was extra packed. There is an open air restaurant with outdoor seating and a tiki bar. It overlooks the river where boats and ships pass. It is a great view at night. We sat outdoors in the restaurant area so that we could hear the awesome cajun band. The band played near the large outdoor bar. The accordionist even lit his instrument on fire and played his little heart out. There were kids running around and older folks dancing. The kids get frisbees with their meal so, they stay entertained. I was a bit concerned when a patron tripped over a game of washers. There may need to be signs for the older people warning them to look for the game boards when walking. The menu has a lot to offer. There are some very creative adaptations of traditional cajun food. The Pistolettes are absolutely the best ever. They are buttery and decadent. The tacos and nachos made with seafood are both very good. The fried green tomatoes are just okay. Our order of tomatoes seemed undercooked and the strawberry sauce was overwhelming. The chicken fried chicken is well seasoned with a silky cream gravy and homestyle mashed potatoes that are pefect together. Portion sizes are just right. Dessert and drinks are excellent. The brownies are really, really good. The beer selection is really good here, too. The best part, the prices are very good considering the creativity of the menu and the quality of the ingredients. If you are in the area, this is definitely a place you should try.

Horrid experience!!! We were told that the wait was 45 minutes. After an hour and a half we were about to leave when they finally told us that our table was ready. My wife insisted that we stay and eat since we had already waited so long. We placed our order as soon as our server came to the table since we already had over an hour and a half to view the menu. After ordering we waited another 40 minutes before we asked why our appetizers had not come out. The server told us there were still a few orders ahead of ours and that he would get us the food as soon as it was ready. About ten minutes later the main dishes came out, but still no appetizers. One dish was even missing items that are listed with the dish on the menu. The appetizers finally came out another fifteen minutes later. Appetizers for desert; what a novel concept. The server told us he would address the issues we had endured with the manager. The manager never took the time to visit with us about our poor experience! Poor experience = poor management!!! I would give zero stars if I could!!!

My wife and I went here one evening, and we decided it has the best atmosphere of any restaurant wed been to all year long. To arrive, we had to go down several residential streets, and I was wondering if it could possibly live up to its reputation, but it does! The weather was amazing, so the porches were in full swing, folks were walking around on the grass lawn as a cool wind blew in to relieve the heat of the day, and there were little lawn games for those who wanted to just spend the evening relaxing. It has this amazing view of the river - which probably explains the strange location, so far from other businesses. The wait staff was fast and efficient. Im only giving it 4 stars because our food was too salty, but I almost feel like giving it 5 because the atmosphere is truly a 6!

We celebrated my Sons 50th @ the wheelhouse in port neches yesterday (5-7-15). Its a lovely place - good atmosphere & service was impeccable. Although the prices were a little high, they were within reason - until my order was served. I ordered the crawfish tails PO-Boy, and it was a "HALF" of a sandwhich - the menu did not say "half" a PO-Boy. My wife ordered the "stuffed chicken breast", and I guess the chef doesnt know what "stuffed" means - it was 2 pcs. of breast with the stuffing in between -this isnt my definition of "stuffed". Unsure well return

If anything ever finds us in the area and were craving seafood, The Wheelhouse is our top pick. This place is almost always full of customers, and a meal there makes compelling evidence as to why. The wait staff is attentive, nice, and fast, the food is great especially since its so different from whats available in the area, the venue itself is a great view of an otherwise ugly river, and the prices are agreeable. If youre in Port Neches and want seafood, turn your wheel towards The Wheelhouse and escape your traditional notions of a seafood dish.

I had very high expectations before going from friends and family. I would like to say that the service far exceeded anything I had imagined. Everyone in our party raved about the food. The food was nothing like anything I have ever had before. I am looking forward to going back. I have to also say, our waitress Katrina was very knowledgeable of the menu. Her enthusiasm was a delight. Thank you to the owners for bringing this type of dining to our area. Keep up the excellent work!! Sincerely, Shelly A.

Was here for a large group event, they gave us 1 server for a table of about 30 to 35 people while other servers just sat and checked their phone or talked with other servers. The bacon wrapped shrimp was ok, others entrees just said they were ok. A little light on the alcohol in my mixed drinks but being close to the water and the indoor/outdoor environment gives this place a star all on its own otherwise I wouldnt return based on this one visit but I may give it one more try without the large group.

This place is great for a relaxing dinner with friends/family. Nice patio on the water (ability to close and cover during the rain or hot weather), and the food is pretty good. Definitely recommend the seafood nachos, the cheese sauce is great! Plenty of parking around, and an outdoor bar with live music on the weekend makes it a good meetup spot. The food is a few dollars more than it would be somewhere else - the cost of the location - but nothing outlandish. Still only $3 for a domestic beer!

The place was awesome! I had fried shrimp and cod. (They let me sub cod instead of catfish) Food was amazing . Mom had the grilled chicken sandwich and the chicken was HUGE! She loved it. Sis had a sandwich with lots of different meats and had Cajun sauce which is a bit spicy. Our food was delicious waitress was sweet, didnt have to wait for refils on drinks. I recommend you give them a go! There shrimp are big and split. So good!

Ate there for second time. Celebrated my wifes birthday. She had the pistolettes, she loved them. I had the Cow Bayou Burger, that was just about the best burger that I ever had. Waiter was named Gabriel and was an excellent waiter. Changed my rating from 3 stars (first time we went was during some construction) to 5 stars. We very much enjoyed it and plan on going back.
