I have made three visits to Mi Patria, and have enjoyed each visit. It is a clean and reasonably decorated. The service has been consistently good and friendly, and the staff seems to take pride in introducing Ecuadoran cuisine to people who have never tried it. The dishes I have tried have been flavorful, satisfying, and reasonably priced. My favorite so far is the Lomo Saltado, but the fried Tilapia is a close second! The quality and presentation of the food seem at bit more upscale than the restaurant itself, but I dont see that as a fault. Oh, and if youre a fan of unusual sodas or just a caffeine addict in general, try the Inca Kola! Not what I would call a cola at all, more like a very distant cousin of Mountain Dew. It has an unusual banana-bubblegum-cream-soda aroma and definitely packs a good sugar-and-caffeine rush!

This place is some of the best food in Des Moines, hands down. Its shocking to me that its so little known to people. This place would absolutely kill it if it were in a better, easier to see location. The flavors and the meats are always perfect. The service is always quick and friendly as well. It honestly feels like a higher priced type of place. Very good portions as well. If youre looking for unique, this is the place to go. Dont go in here expecting a mexican like food experience, its a totally different type of food. Everyone that I have shown this place to has become a regular. I personally recommend starting off with the Tallarina de Carne, its amazing.

This place is awesome! Went there on the 3rd of July, took the kids with us (12 and 13). My wife and I got Mi Patria for Two, the meat is so tender and delicious! Got the steak and seafood special for the kids, they loved it too. The plates are very pretty decorated, we loved their appetizers, the ones that are baked (cant remember what they are called) our favorite was with chicken and cheese. For dessert got the coconut crusted babanas and rice pudding, the babanas were great, rece pooding was okay. Definetely going to come back again, got a coupong from Livingsocial, hope they get new clients bcz its very different and GOOD!

You may have had Mexican or Spanish food, but have you had Ecuadorian? Mi Patria pulls back the veil on Latin American food to allow us to see past Mexico to the rich culinary world beyond. Ive tried dishes from the menu, like the wonderful ceviche (seafood "cooked" by the acid in citrus fruit) and from their buffet. Nothing I have had has been less than great. Their wonderful, inviting staff make you feel at home. The décor doesnt add much to the experience, but you can view Ecuadorian games on the TVs. My wife and I really enjoy Mi Patria every time we go...and well be back.

There are lots of Mexican restaurants in the Des Moines area, which is a wonderful thing--but be sure to try Mi Patria, which features Ecuadorian cuisine. The soup du jour has always been delicious when Ive eaten there. Wonderful pulled pork, rice (and amazing dishes using rice--try the chaulafan!), great pork chops... and this Arkansas/Oklahoma boy was delighted to find hominy in an Ecuadaorian setting. Honesty compels me to admit Ive not yet summoned the courage to try cuy, but everything Ive tried has been a pleasure.

An instant favorite. We visited for the first time tonight. Mrs. Sharpe and I ordered the Mi Patria for 2. Its a combo that includes a little of everything. It was very reasonably priced and a good move because it allowed us to sample everything. The meat (steak, chicken and pulled pork) was just exquisite. The veggies and potatoes equally awesome. The egg on the rice? Wow. Throw in first class service in an understated, very pleasant environment and you have an absolute winner. Mi Patria is fabulous.

We went there the other night and it was wonderful. Great service, great quality food. The real star is that its not another Mexican restaurant... actually its not Mexican at all. Its Ecuadorian. There are some similarities but overall, its different cuisine and focuses on rice, beans, and plantains. Theres also pulled pork in several dishes (which I had and was quite good) and a few seafood dishes. Overall, it was breath of fresh air for something different. Des Moines needs more of these kinds of restaurants.

I love this place. Im fairly certain its family owned and operated because I always see the same people here, and so it has a cozy atmosphere. Sometime I think the waiters could be a bit more attentive in refilling glasses, etc. But I never have had a real reason to complain about the quantity, quality or price of the food. My favorite dishes are the ceviches. Its the perfect shared dish on a hot or cold day; and its usually the best followed by pork, rice and beans served hot and fresh.

Absolutely, dollar-for-dollar, the best dining experience Ive had in Des Moines for years! Just ate there for the first time last week, and I was blown away by the food, not to mention the portions (nice for a larger dude), and the price. My favorite food memories of adulthood come from Mexico and Puerto Rico, and what Mi Patria is technically neither, its Central American fare made me feel like I was back on the island. Huge fan of the pork and the varieties of plantain sides.

Mi Patria serves fantastic, authentic Ecuadorian food that is unique in Des Moines. Get the Mi Patria for Two and have another two meals worth of leftover pork, steak, chicken, fava beans, rice, and on and on, while the arroz con leche is pure comfort food as dessert. The true star, however, is the kids menu, with salchipapa, arroz con pollo, and hornado available.

If you want a change of pace from the blah and extrodinary cuisine this is for you. There is nothing bad. Everything is great. The portion sizes are well beyond and that gives you lunch for the following day. Some of the best cevici in town. Not as fresh as right out of the boat, but still fantastic. Highly recommened.

The food was AMAZING. We stopped on our way to CO in December. Their food and salsa was SO GOOD we made. Point to stop on the way home to have a quick takeout lunch, and buy some of the Salsa to take home. We will stop her again the next time we are in town. They were also featured on "Dinners, Driven-ins and Dives.

Freshest food Ive had at a restaurant in quite some time... vibrant flavors too. Not a flashy place, but the service and food was excellent.... especially considering the price. Green salsa very good and actually authentic/spicy. The Tortilla De Yucca appetizer was phenomenal!

Carne Asada is very tender and flavorful, Mrs had the Hornado Con Moti dinner....the pork was very tender and tasty as well. She wasnt a big fan of the corn but I thought it was pretty good. The Emanadas were awesome as was the Coconut Banana Chocolate Ice Cream desert mmmmmm
