I have been here twice. Both times I asked for a spice level of four stars out of five, because my significant other and I love REALLY spicy food. Each time, the waitress told me I should get two stars, because they have some sort of crazy hot chili powder. The first time I agreed to try it with less spice. Tried it. Not hot AT ALL. I decided not to go back, but then a friend of mine wanted to go today so I did. I again ordered four out of five stars, and AGAIN the waitress suggested two. I was like, "seriously with this?! I like my food spicy!" and explained that I had tried their food before and it was not especially hot. So she agreed to make it hot, but it was bland AGAIN! I consider it extremely rude to just look at someone and assume they dont know what they like or cant handle spicy food. I will not be returning to this eatery.

My wife and I were looking for a different place we hadnt tried and ended up here. When out in this area, wed typically go to Zuzap or Cool Basil. No more. Every person we encountered here was super nice, and competent, which I cannot say about my experiences at the other places I mentioned. When you walk in, you find glass covered white tablecloths with a bar fronting the kitchen. All nice and very unexpected given the name and the location. We had thai iced teas, crab delight, and the green and red curries lunch specials. We both ordered 3 stars on the spice, which had a perfect amount of heat for lunch. The flavors were perfect. They reminded me of way back in the day when "A Taste of Thailand" was downtown and the flavors you remember. We will certainly be back to try more of the menu. It is our new favorite spot.

OMG! I may have just had the best meal of my life! If you like Thai food, you will LOVE this place. The servers are prompt and friendly, and also very accommodating. They always ask how spicy you want your food, from 0 to 5. The last time I went I got the papaya salad at spice level 4. I think that may have been the most delicious thing I have ever eaten! Perfect balance of sweet, sour, bitter and spicy and sooo refreshing! I would highly recommend that particular dish, and this place in general. I have been here several times and have tried a number of different menu items and have never had anything but a fantastic experience. If you are looking for a great Thai place, then look no further. I am sure you will LOVE this place. I know I will be back every time I am in town.

I have visited this restaurant often and done take out many many more times. I would have to say that their food is better than most Thai flavors found in and around Des Moines. Cool Basil comes close but Maos cooking and her style add a lot to the meal. I used to like Taste of Thailand until their owner went back home and the restaurant suffered. Mao makes a killer Spicy Basil, Massaman curry and Pad thai. My only comment would be to not charge extra for the rice when doing takout -- otherwise, this fine restaurant is very similar to Thai restaurants Ive dined at in Phuket, Bangkok and Malaysia. cxz8 - try it one more time; I dont think your experience is representative of the dozens Ive had.

We live in Ames and the two Thai places there are lack-luster. Consequentially, Eat Thai Thai Eatery (ETTE) is our jam. We used to look for excuses to head to the west side of the Des Moines metro to go to Cool Basil, but that place has been going down hill for the last couple of years. ETTE has been consistently excellent and is our new favorite Thai restaurant. Add to that my pregnant wifes love of and constant cravings for spicy vegetarian food, weve been making near-weekly trips to ETTE. Pricing is good, service is excellent, and the place is always clean. Id give it six stars if I could.

Oh my goodness, soooo good! Crispy Duck is a must have. Everything else was amazing, too: melt-in-your-mouth crab rangoons, prime rib curry shooters (never had them before, but yummmm), pineapple fried rice, and yellow curry with chicken, sweet sticky rice, fried bananas, and even the macarons. I want to try their custard dessert next time! And definitely getting the crispy duck.

I like to try many different thai food places . In Des Moines, this is the best one so far. The Tom Yum soup is very natural and uses quality ingredients, no salt hangover. The appetizer sampler is great. Chicken satay is fantastic. We are full but ordered the duck curry to try it. The owner said they use special high quality curry paste. Forget the ambiance, your there to eat.

This place has a very relaxing environment. The service is very good and quite speedy. Ive tried most all of the thai restaurants in ames, dsm, iowa city, and cedar rapids. This one is the best. Only downside is that it is a smaller restaurant. However, its almost never full because its in a not very visable strip mall. Dont let that fool you though.

Very good Thai food, and the rice dessert is possibly the best thing on the menu. This restaurant is a bit heavier than thai food generally is, but everything Ive had here is rather good. If you generally like lighter options for thai food, or in general cook at home this might not be right for you but its still worth trying at least once.

love this place. I love thai food and this is by far the best thai restaurant in Des Moines I have been into. The food tasted great, staff was friendly (especially the thai ladies), the menu was pretty extensive. I have been here like 5-6 times in the last year I would keep coming back.

Had the best meal that I have eaten in 25 years! The flavors burst in your mouth. Service is friendly and excellent. Found the place by luck because it was close to our hotel. Went back again the next day. I am truly sorry that I live so far away from this gem.

Love this place. Small, quiet atmosphere - flavorful food. As someone who eats thai at least once a week, I have to say that Eat Thai stands out as one of the best in Des Moines. Super fast service, friendly staff and the cuisine is unique and flavorful.

Good! Not for me, because I cant handle spices (I didnt take any stars away because of my sissy tongue XD) but the food itself was A W E S O M E! My only complaint is about the fact that you couldnt sit outside :/ Besides that, definitely worth 5 stars!

Forget Cool Basil. If you want GOOD Thai food, go here. This place has the best Thai Ive had since Hawaii, and Ive been all over trying to match that level of excellence. This is as close as you can get. And the service is outstanding. Love this place.

Amazing food. Perfect level of spice for my heat loving SO and myself. They like heat, and I dont. They get it right every time! They even have basics for the kids. The curries are amazing, as are the noodle dishes. Would highly recommend to anyone!
