I have to start by saying what a wonderful trip to New Braunfels this has been. My partner Amy, is from here originally and she brought me to visit and meet her family and friends. I figured if this town is as sweet as she is, I couldnt wait to visit! On Saturday night, around 7:00pm, we came in to dine at The Gruene Door. The evening started off wonderfully. We were greeted and sat by a sweet woman and had excellent service by a young man named Devin. Everyone was attentive and kind, with the exception of one. Now we are not the type to complain, but we were appalled by the kind of service that was being delivered by a certain older gentleman that evening who claimed to be the owner, when he was in actuality, the host. My partner ordered a steak, a $38 dollar steak to be exact, medium rare. When the steak arrived, it was nearly well done. She didnt want to send it back but I figured at that price and with the wonderful service wed been receiving, I would assume the chef would like to know. After nearly 30 minutes of waiting for a new steak, we cancelled the order, since the rest of the 3 of us dining had finished our meal. Then this man, the host, dressed in an orange/salmon colored shirt and tie brought out the steak anyway, slammed it down and said, in a very agitated manner, "Can you cut into it so you can see if its to your liking?" She did, and to our shock, was still cooked almost to well. We said we didnt want it and had already cancelled it, to which he replied, "Well, Ill just wrap it up for you to go because you WILL be paying for it." and scurried off. At that table, my friends and I have combined restaurant experience of both servers and managers for over 10 years. I have never in my life seen treatment like this. Amy and I got up from our seats to talk to the man in private, as to not continue on the ridiculous scene he had created in the main dining room in front of several other patrons. Amy extended her hand to talk to the man and he raised his arms. He couldnt even shake her hand, let alone talk to us like civilized human beings. Maybe its because Amy has short hair and was wearing a button up flannel shirt, or maybe he didnt approve of our relationship. He was yelling at us and visibly shaking with anger, all because our steak was not prepared correctly, and after not eating a single piece, refused to take it off the bill. Then he decided to throw us out of the restaurant and proceeded to tell us to never return. I dont know of this is the kind of treatment the owner Debbie or the executive chef Collin approve of, but you can be sure we wont ever be back. And neither will our family and locals in town that we know. Good thing the other lovely folks of Greune and New Braunfels were able to make sure we had a good night after this nightmare of an experience at your establishment.

Had the pleasure of having inner with my family last night at the Gruene Door. From the moment you walk in you are warmly greeted. the environment is cozy and eclectic as well as sophisticated. Superb selections of wines. The dinner entree was amazing. I choose the lamb, perfectly cooked and seasoned. So tender serve over rustic mashed potatoes and lightly seared spinach. Each member of our dinner party raved about their selections. My only comment would be a nice rustic bread. No bread is offered and when requested for a party of seven only four small slices where offered and the were buttered and cold. When we asked for more the server seemed a little put out. This is why I have only given four stars. Other than that highly recommend it.The pricing is $$$, however well worth it.

We were there as a large group, and if the setting was more of a normal occasion instead of fifty people, Id give it a 5*. We will go back and if the service is just as good, Ill have to redo my rating. As for now, Ill fill you in on what I know. We basically had four choices for dinner, steak, steak, I think another steak and salmon. Like I said, it was a large group so you have to limit the options or the kitchen will go crazy. There was most likely other options, but after I seen the salmon with crispy spinach...I had to try it. Wow was I impressed! No idea how you make crispy spinach, wish I knew because I want it everyday. Everyones plates were brought out at the same time, everyone was happy, so yes, this is a great spot for a large group.

The atmosphere is upscale yet cozy, the staff warm and friendly and the food is simply spectacular! We started with the meat, cheese and fruit plate. The house-made meats and unique cheeses were delicious. For entrees we chose the blackened red fish special and the poblano pepper with house-made chorizo. Both were AH-mazing! My husband is convinced there is a magician in the kitchen. We were fortunate to have two servers and both were very knowledgeable about the menu, attentive and went out of their way to make our celebration dinner special. Thank you for a fantastic meal and tremendous service tonight!

Menu was amazing, food was amazing, service was amazing. So so so happy we went here to celebrate our friends marriage!! Evan was our waiter and he did a stellar job. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and described the daily special so well. The location is cute too. Its like a little village of shops, bars and.restaurants set off the main road. Would love to go back.

We had a wonderful Rehearsal Dinner for my son at The Greune Door Restaurant with over 70 guests! Dave, the General Manager, did an amazing job coordinating the event! The food and service was amazing! We walked across the avenue after dinner to the Greune Door Wine Bar for champagne toasting and a slide show - thank you to Ashley for doing a great job!

My wife and I stumbled onto this quaint place and discovered a treasure! We eat there more than we eat at home. It amazes us that more people do not know about this restaurant. The owners and the staff treat us more like family than customers. In our opinion this place is one of the finest in New Braunfels and we have been to them all.

Went there for brunch today and their menu is fantastic. Very reasonable prices too. My wife and i left with only a $40 bill that included $10 for mimosas. All four dishes at our table were amazing, and I recommend the pulled pork and grits and the chicken and waffles. So glad we decided to drop in, and well be back for sure.

Ive been here for a romantic dinner and a quick lunch. The food and service were both great on both visits. The food is familiar, but with interesting twists. Parking is usually fairly easy. If you are planning to go at a peak them, like Friday-Sunday at dinner, you may want to make a reservation.

We booked their private room for our rehearsal dinner. The restaurant has an amazing atmosphere, attentive staff, and most importantly: mouth-watering & delicious food. We were so happy to have this as the introduction to our wedding weekend. :)
