I bought my family to this place to try something new and we left very disappointed. We usually go to Bonsai and I cant say enough about how good and how much better the food is at Bonsai. I am writing this review as Im here with my food in from of me. That is how unexciting my food is to me right now. My daughters noodles are burned. My rice, steak, vegetables, scallops, and rice have no flavor AND it was more expensive than Bonsai. Never again! Also, I had my daughters noodles and my food which I only took a few bites of off my check, and when my son who would eat anything wanted to take home a little of it so it wouldnt get thrown away, the manager came over and rudely said if youre going to take it home you have to pay for it. If it wasnt for my son wanting some of it, I personally would have wanted to take it home to give to my dog even. I wait tables in a restaurant and if any customer didnt enjoy somethings about their food or dining experience, my manager would have not only taken off their meal and would not have cared what they did with the food, but obviously Shogun isnt very concerned with their customers having an enjoyable dining experience as much as they are concern concerned about forcing their customers to pay something they didnt even have the pleasure of enjoying in their restaurant. The only positive thing I can say about this place is that their melon margarita was delicious. Dont waste your money at this place. Go to Bonsai instead. The food and service is so much better and the grill cooks are so much more entertaining.

HORRIBLE WONT EVEN CUT IT!!! Came to this fine dining for my 35 birthday. I called and they were not taking reservations. My partu of 12 traveled from San Antonio to new braunfels bc it was our first time. Well we were seated. Everything was gr8 until we got a chef Lucky who at first glance gave us one look and said, "I quit!" We didnt think anything by it. He asked, How is everyone doing tonight? We all yelled, "good!" Then I mentioned it was my birthday and he loudy responded "I DONT CARE." I was embarrassed bc everyone heard and he continued to say, "WHAT YOU GOT MAD BC I TOLD YOU I DONT CARE!" At this point her I felt humiliation. I went to go look for manager who so happened to be owner. And all she said was, "He was joking." WOW! I cant believe she had no apology for his employee. Never again will I set foot. I left. I was so disappointed in the way it was handled! I HAVE BEEN TO MANY PLACES AND I KNOW WHERE THE GOOD SERVICE IS. IF YOU ARE HISPANIC BE WARE!

I ordered the sashimi plate along with sushi rolls and was so, very disappointed. Eventhough the sashimi looked dry, I tried a piece of salmon. It was fishy. The waiter saw my dissatisfaction and took it back and brought the rolls I ordered out. The rolls looked OK but were stuffed with a crab salad (imitation crab and mayo). The menu describes the rolls having Alaskan snow crab and costs around $17. I assumed it would be real crab. Once again, the waiter saw my dissatisfaction and took the rolls back. This time the manager came out with a negative attitude and said she would refund me for the sashimi, but not the rolls. Although I told her that her menu states "Alaskan snow crab," not crab salad she was unwilling to make the situation better. I never complain at restaurants but this was so bad and because of her attitude I will never return and let everyone I know about my terrible experience.

We sat at a booth, not at the hibachi grill. We had gyoza (fried dumplings) as an appetizer, then I ordered the teriyaki steak and he ordered the salmon and scallops for our dinners. The dumplings were good, as was the onion soup that came with the dinners. The salad was okay; the ginger dressing was a little grainy. My steak was a huge disappointment. It was described as "thin-sliced sirloin steak with teriyaki sauce" and ordered medium rare; what arrive on my plate was large (1 to 2 inch) steak cubes, well done. My husbands salmon sat on the grill for too long; it had formed a crust and was no longer flaky. Our vegetables were lukewarm, and the mushrooms were burnt. The shrimp was rubbery. We expressed our dissatisfaction to our waiter; we were told, "sorry, this is the way our chef always cooks this.". We wont be back.

Im usually not a very critical person, considering I use to eat cold MREs in the military and I was content, however I felt our dinning experience at this place was worthy of criticism. Ive never had dry sushi until now and the salmon my wife had was extremely fishy. The fish had dry freezer burned sheen to it. Even the kids hibachi was sub par. The shrimp was chewy and the chicken and steak were dry. On a positive note our waiter was great, the spring rolls were avg and they offer free peppermints which you will definately need to remove the bad taste you will get for $140.

We love coming here to sit at the Hibachi Grill.... the kids love watching them make our food right in front of us! Its a little hit or miss with the cooks as to whether they put on a good show or not, but I also think it depends on the level of excitement you put out about them cooking. We went with a louder excited group and the guy put on a big show. The other day the people sitting by us made it feel like we were in a library so the cook kept it pretty chill and quiet himself. So I would say it definitely depends on the vibe they get from their table!

They charge extra for the rice cooked on the hibachi so they can hide how over priced their bland food is. This place must have had the D-team working or the people who rated this place 5 stars have never been to a good Hibachi resturant. I would highly suggest Bonzai for anyone in New Braunfels. Sushi was ok.. thats why it got 2 stars. 80 bucks for 2 kids and myself. We ordered one sushi roll, 2 kids meals, and I ordered the cheapest steak on the Hibachi, which is fine when the food is good... not the case at all. Very disappointed.

Took my kiddos there to try their Sushi! Its posh, modern and clean! Also surprisingly family friendly! Great Service! Great food that we all loved! I highly recommend this place over any other Japanese restaurant in New Braunfels! I loved the dimly lit romantic atmosphere! Im planning on taking my husband next for a romantic dinner! Cant wait!

I have eaten here several times. The service is slow, but the food is pretty good. I am leaving this review because as we waited 15 min for our drinks, there were roaches!!!! They were crawling all over the habachi grill!! When we alerted someone, he came over and had bloody hands and was trying to catch the bugs!!! Super gross and unsanitary!!

Great food and great entertainment! We sat by the hibachi and the chef was hilarious. He even noticed that my son was a little skeptical and played a joke on him (it worked). The salmon and chicken were fantastic. The chef made a sauce on the hibachi for the salmon that I could almost eat by itself. Ill definitely be back.
