*3 years later, still the best sushi Ive ever eaten!!* This is the best overall sushi Ive had. The portions are usually MUCH larger than comparable restaurants, and yet the prices are the same if not slightly less. The happy hour is great of course, however the food is soo good that I just go regardless of the time of day! Yes, people have a hard time getting over the fact that great sushi could come from an oddly named place, and are even more put off by its weird location and set up. But since when did LOCATION have anything to do with great food?! The owner/sushichef/husband is amazing at creating new sushi roll flavors that blend perfectly together, and his wife/owner is so friendly and nice. Amazingly they have flavors for ALL taste buds, even if you dont like sushi! I personally prefer the sushi rolls, but the "boxes" are quite good as well and you get a lot more food for a less money. I would make recommendations, but it would be half the menu, but rolls worthy of mention are the NINJA, HEAT ATTACK, Sex on the Beach, Monkey Brains, and SEAFOOD DYNAMITE! This place is DEFINITELY worth checking out, you WONT be disappointed, I promise! Cons: location, set up, most of the food is not "traditional sushi". To add, I go here all the time, but of course I live in San Marcos. But when I move to Austin, I will constantly be making trips back to San Marcos, just to eat here!

Awesome sushi and Japanese fare plus several Mexican-themed entrees for those that prefer an alternative while their friends eat sushi! Great place for friends, groups, dates, college kids and families. Lots of local students from Texas State nearby frequent this restaurant, keeping the vibe fresh. Modern music plays in the background. Family-owned and operated. Regulars are recognized. The building looks like a dive from outside, but the inside is new, remodeled, clean and bright. One of those places that rides on word-of-mouth and consistently delivers outstanding food, meeting and exceeding expectations. The menu has a wide selection of choices, all priced well. This restaurant can compete with the best Austin and San Antonio have to offer in sushi, but saves you from driving an hour on I35. An outstanding choice for lunch or dinner, especially for those looking for an alternative to dealing with the crowds and traffic in Austin. This is our goto choice when looking for a fun meal in the San Marcos area. Lunch specials are priced to keep regulars coming back several days per week. Our favorites are the onion soup, lettuce wraps, Sunshine roll, Rainbow roll, spicy California roll, quail egg shooters, salmon sashimi, and the lunch special Bento boxes. Its all good!!! Just go now!!!

I recently moved here from California and was on the hunt for a new GOOD sushi place I could call my home. After reading reviews online and trying other not so great places, I decided to give it a shot. I was pleasantly surprised! The sushi is amazingly delicious and the staff polite and prompt! Youll never have to ask for refills because they always keep your drink topped off (We drink LOTS of water, lol) One thing you should anyways look out for at sushi places is the smell. If it smells like fish, leave immediately because that means the fish is not fresh and could make you sick. But when we walked in...It smelled amazing like miso soup and tempura. Weve been here quite a few times and the service is consistent. I would recommend this place to anyone that I know! Including bringing sushi loving family from out of state :D

The owner was essentially throwing a tantrum the entire time we were eating. He was yelling at his staff and even threw a box of toothpicks across the room. We hadnt seen our waiter for a while and when we asked the waitress who filled in for him what was going on, she told us that the owner made our waiter leave and go on a delivery run to get him out of the restaurant. Apparently he was new and had made a mistake. We tipped our waiter extra because no one should be treated like that in their workplace. Everyone besides the owner was really nice and checked in with us frequently. Its really unfortunate that they had to deal with that behavior. (I would highly recommend A-Tan over Japan Latino. The price is comparable but the quality and atmosphere of A-Tan is infinitely better.)

Had a bad buyers remorse going here because the food was mediocre at best. The specialty items were industry standard though-until you take into account other factors. FYI- if you want to try a new place in San Marcos or this one in particular, use the restroom first; Mens or Womens-doesnt matter. This will tell you how sanitary their kitchen is. If its nasty, leave right away and dont look back. The awards for "best of Hays" by some newspaper just shows you cant even trust the local media. Also, they charge $1 for any "dipping sauces" they offer. Condiments are always included in the price of an entree as an industry standard.. even McDonalds knows that.....

I have always gone here for some alright sushi but as soon as my friend began working here my opinions have completely changed. Knowing how unsanitary everything is now I do not think I will ever go back. They also can not keep employees longer than a couple months due to their attitudes towards them. I will not support a business who is calls their servers mean names on their first day on the job. SO disrespectful and not professional at all.

I ordered online and was concerned when the order went through without any of my card information attached to the order. I called the number they provided, and the employee who quickly answered the phone was so helpful and nice! She let me know they have a card reader they bring when they deliver to you, and made sure they had my order so I would get it as soon as possible. She went above and beyond with her customer service!

LOVED This place!! It is in a weird location but the food was amazing!!! My boyfriend had the steak and I had the sushi lunch box. The food came with huge portions, but we ate everything even after we were full, because it was so good. I tried a bit of everything on his plate and was very impressed. They have amazing sushi, probably some of the best Ive ever had. This place has become our new weekly restaurant.

Ive liked everything Ive had here. They have bento box lunch specials that give you many choices for a main course. They include soup, salad, and sushi (Im no expert but I really like their sushi.) Staff is very friendly every time Ive been there. This place is a ma n pa, family run operation and a good one. Its a staple hang out for my family and I and I wouldnt give that title to just any resturant.

Hands down the BEST sushi I ever had!!! Ive tried the cheap stuff from HEB and the nasty buffet sushi, but nothing compares to this place!!! I was hesitant to try it at first but Im super glad I did! My girlfriend and I are HOOKED on Japan-Latino!!! We live about 35 minutes out of San Marcos, but its definitely worth the drive!! I would recommend the Nom Nom Roll and the Pollo Loco Roll!!!!

We have eaten here numerous times and have never been disappointed. Tonight, we were served by Zack and he was awesome. He recommended the most amazing rolls and was a very attentive waiter. We got the Tuna Dream, super Dragon, and high roller. All three were great, even their plain fried rice was fantastic. Its reasonably priced and delicious. Well be back!
