I am very sad to write this but, honestly, I dont know where to begin in telling you how terrible this place is so Ive made a pros and cons list. I was SO looking forward to trying this place but I, and the 15 people who went with me will NEVER go back. I want to stress that we were not a demanding or rowdy group at all. We didnt even need to sit together. Also, Im in the customer service industry so I know and understand the limitations and expectations of a busy restaurant. Regardless, here is a summary of my experience: PROs *Burgers are pretty good *Good selection of Homebrews CONs *Management -- Not present, uninterested in their clientele *Hateful, Unhappy, Rude Staff *Hostess was visibly rude and even yelled at us at one point because we didnt hear her whisper for us to follow her. *Wait Time -- It was a one hour wait in a half empty restaurant *Wait for Order -- Over an hour to get our food (7 people at my table) and some people at our other table didnt get to eat at all.) *Server -- Saw her ONCE to take our food order, ONCE to take our checks. Thats it! *Food was cold and although the burgers were good, the fries were bland, burnt, and cold. *While I cant prove it, we accidently left a stack of birthday cards with gift cards inside on the table. We were in such a hurry to leave after our 21/2 hour ordeal that we forgot. When I went back to get them, they were gone and the manager has YET to call me back. He doesnt have to replace them, but just ask your staff about it! Its too bad, really, but there are plenty of OTHER gourmet burgers in DFW to try that are not only delicious but a real pleasure to visit.

First of all five dollar french fries. I dont care how good fries can be or what local ingredients are used they are not $4.50. 5 when you include tax and tip. The wait staff was mediocre. For giving me such a salty burger I a) never saw my server b) had to signal her from halfway across the establishment to refill my drink. The restaraunt was not even busy when I went, keep in mind. For spending that much money on food, yes, I do expect great service. I do not think that is unreasonable. Also for spending that much money on food I want it to be good and it was not. Will I be trying again? Probably not. I hear its either a 45 minute wait or dead. If the service is that bad when its slow just imagine how itd be when its slammed. So I was expecting the burger to be mind blowingly tasty. It wasnt. It tasted like just any regular hamburger. My date thought it tasted strange, and he ordered it plain and dry, so it had to be the meat. The whole thing was a huge disappointment. I read a review that the burgers are large. They are not. They are medium size at best. Presentation was good but you dont get much meat. Just seemed like a bunch of fluff.

This is my #1 favorite restaurant on the square in McKinney. I love the beer selection, and beer isnt even my thing, but it just tastes SO GOOD there. I usually go nuts on all the fried food. This time we asked to have 1 order split between fries and tempura onion rings, and that was PERFECT for two adults and two kids. Five stars for the food. BUT, I have to say, the service is spotty. Really spotty. The staff is not very adept at keeping the meal moving along, which would be fine if there were space to sit and linger, but as they have a small number of tables, they keep a lot of people waiting unnecessarily. They are not rude, but they are slow. Feed your children a small meal before sitting down, and they will be hungry again by the time the food arrives. Then, you can take your kids to the Gelato place around the corner, sit down and enjoy some dessert while your husband waits on the check, then go back to get him, and he will still be waiting! Im going to call them tomorrow to give them this feedback. I wouldnt let it stop you from going, it is great, just be prepared for a loooonggg meal.

Chefy burgers! What were dealing with here is really fresh food cooked perfectly and a wall-to-wall selection of seriously good American beers. The lamb burger is awesome! Really nice, well sourced ingredients you wont find just anywhere. Interesting stuff going on even with the bar snacks like seasoned popcorn with a hint of bacon fat. Seasonal specials and desserts that nail it. Its exciting finding food like this anywhere, much less McKinney. Ive seen some nasty reviews blow through and my best guess is were dealing with some of the most demanding customers, including ones determined to drum up dissatisfaction if at all possible. Kind of a baffling reaction to food this good. If its somehow not, have them refire it for Gods sake. This is a very young restaurant and although management and the wait staff have yet to entirely achieve over the top service, I believe theyve provided several great experiences, are listening, and are almost always accommodating.

Square burger used to be an awesome joint to enjoy some finely crafted food to go with the fine ales on tap.. It was one of my favorite places. I had not been there in a while until last night. I was shocked to see how they have begun cutting corners. My experience: My burger as well as my wifes burgers were both well done. NOT medium like they were supposed to be. Both were dry. This has never happened before. The bread has changed. I dont know why, but it isnt as good as it once was. They used to create their own condiments - the ketchup now appears to be the same old stuff anyone can buy at any grocery store. The service was fair at best.. It has never been that great, but I can live with that. I am a patient person. I am not in a hurry. The whole meal appears to have dropped a few pegs. I am so disappointed. I had recommended the place to my friends. Now I feel like I have done them an injustice.

Burgers were slightly better than average, but not great. All food items were overpriced. I typically like a few fries with my burger, but you cant order a small order of fries. You have to order the industrial size for nearly 5 bucks! The worst part about the place for me was that it was TOO DAMN LOUD!! The conversation from all the guests booms and echos around the high metal ceilings and wallls. Throw in a few exuberant patrons, a couple of crying babies and then dining there soon becomes a miserable experience. I wanted to just run outside from the noise alone. There is NO EXCUSE for that level of infrastructure noise and the owners apparently dont give a damn to make any changes. There are a lot of sound absorption construction materials and techniques, and Square burger needs to utilize some of those techniques. I wont go back.

I love this place, the burgers are great, the service is great, but most of all those onion rings are by far the best thing there. You cant come here and not get the onion rings. The burgers are also top notch and go above the standards of a good burger. The service is good but not great, probably because of the large amount of people that show up. Youre going to want to get there at like 5:15 for dinner because if you come at 6:00 your in for a 45- 1 hour long wait. If theres one thing bad about this place its that it isnt a chain. They need to expand to other places because I am sick and tired of driving 20-30 minutes to get there. I mean it is worth the wait but it could be a shorter ride. All in all an amazing place to go for any occasion.
