I have always had a wonderful experience at the hibatchi side of Okada. However, the past 2 times I have been on the restaurant side have been unpleasant experiences. The first time, I wanted to order a sushi tower, but substitute the tuna they place on top for salmon instead. Both the waitress and sushi chef informed me that this was impossible to do. I told them I found that interesting since I dine sushi quite often and have never had that problem at any other sushi restaurant. Usually I will pay an upcharge for the switch of tuna for salmon, I was quickly informed this was NOT an option when I offered. The next time I went back, a few days ago, I brought my parents. I was expecting this to be a nice family dinner. My parents who do not eat sushi often had questions for our waitress in regards to the different rolls and such on the menu. She answered the first couple questions with no problems, but the more they asked about different rolls to try to decide on what they wanted to order she began to roll her eyes and show OBVIOUS signs of annoyance with us. In my personal opinion regardless of whether you are at a Japanese steakhouse or McDonalds you treat your customers politey and you are helpful with any questions they might have. Especially if you are paying the price it costs for sushi. I will never go back to Okada. I have had MUCH more pleasant experiences at other Japanese restaurants in the area I would much rather give my business to.

This is our go to go to sushi place, been there 3 times to pick up dinner in the past week but sadly today did not go so well. First i called at 11 to order to go lunch, the man who answered who i believe was the owner stated that they dont open until 11:30 and i need to call back. Ok fine, but really you couldnt take order down and prepare it when u open? Then when i calked back to order the lady could not hear me or understand me so i had to repeat myself several times and she was acting annoyed with me. I was in a quiet place and speaking clearly. When i pick up my order i found that the cost of fried rice doubled. It has always been $2.50 for a side of fried rice, today $5. I asked the waitress about it and she walked over to the owner and came back and said thats the owner (pointing at him) and he sayd to go fried rice is $5, i said i have always paid 2.50 for to go rice and the response was that someone must have made a mistake. So the last three times i ordered to go at dinner time it was 2.50, this time at lunch its $5. Why? Its makes no sense. I told the waitress to let him know he just lost a customer because thats just unacceptable, you dont just change prices. He looked right me when i said it and he couldnt have cared less. Its sad really, places like that are willing to lose a regular customer over $5. Ive bever spent less than $35 there. Too bad, ill take my business elsewhere where its appreciated.

This place is very hit and miss. when they are on, the sushi and hibachi are fantastic. when they are off, its like the entire staff is off. my wife and I have sat at hibachi, the bar, and the regular dining tables, and we have had experiences at hibachi that were so good we tell the story to friends, but sitting at the bar is awful. you are mostly ignored and treated like an inconvenience. to go without a drink for an hour when youve ordered 4 rolls of spicy sushi and youre sitting right in front of the bartender is unacceptable. every time i needed something, I had to flag the bartender down. in the table area, the waitress ALWAYS forgets something. I have waited an hour and a half for sushi rolls before. all that being said, I have only been here once where the sushi wasnt particularly good. The food is usually great. However, I have also only been here once when the service was great, and that was sitting at hibachi. if you live in McKinney, and dont want to drive an hour for sushi, this is pretty much your only choice. If you have options I can honestly say I would rather eat somewhere that is slightly less quality on the food side but with consistently good and attentive service on the experience side.

We really enjoy Okada. The food is very good, and you can get sushi at the hibachi tables, which is nice for those that arent interested in the normal Japanese Steakhouse fare. They usually have tamari available for those who want a gluten free option. While they dont have gluten free noodles, they will do double veggies instead, which is quite nice. Some of the chefs arent quite thrilled at the tamari, as it means they have to cook separately which of course takes more time. But, Im sure to tip them for the extra effort though, which helps the next time around. :) They do take reservations by phone, though they seem to have dropped off of OpenTable, which is a bummer. Another nice thing is that they dont get too aggressive stacking people at the tables, so often you can have a private table with a medium size group. Some steakhouses pack people in as tight as they can. With tables for eight, Ive never a fan of going out for a birthday dinner with six people and having two strangers sitting with us during the party. Kinda weird. Okada does their best to avoid that kind of situation, which is nice. All in all, Okada is a great option for a nice dinner out with the family.

I was in the mood for sushi today so i called in a to go order. The lady spoke horrible English and was very rude, that a side i just wanted my food so no big deal. When i asked her if i can place a to-go order she said "I dont know because we so busy". ok thats new one for me... so after taking her into placing a order (of 6 cali roles) she asked for my cc info i said ill pay for it in cash when i get there. then she told me she wont make it unless i give her the card info or i order when i get there, "because we so busy you wait 30 mins maybe more" all i was thinking was WOW. So i told her cancel the order ill take my business elsewhere. if they are that rude on the phone i dont want to find out how their customer service is in person. pass on this one dont care if they server the greatest food on earth dont want to deal with that kind of customer service.

My husband and I go here weekly--sometimes more. There have been very few places in the DFW area that we have been pleased with when it comes to sushi. This place is tops. Sushi is always fresh. Never once have we had a mediocre experience here, from the servers, to the sushi chefs, hibachi people or the owners. We love it here. Well be really sad when we move to Plano, because Im not sure that well get out to Okada as much as we do now. We were really spoiled in East Lansing, Michigan because for some reason we had some great sushi there. This is the only place that we have been consistently pleased with our meals (and drinks)! Order the Chi-Chi!
