Ive been coming to Bill Smiths Cafe before I even moved to McKinney. When I lived in Dallas I used stop on the way to see my horses and have breakfast there. If your looking great down home food, super friendly easy going folks and good prices then this is the place. It reminds me of Mayberry and I keep waiting for John Wayne or Barny Fife to walk in. I absolutely LOVE this place. I wish they were closer to the square but hey you cant have everything and Bill Smiths Cafe has been around since 1956 so pretty sure they arent going anywhere. Weekends its crammed and no Host to seat you so just figure if their is a line out the door on waiting for come earlier next time. I can honestly say I have loved everything Ive had there the food is GREAT. Regularly you can catch Bill Smith Jr or his daughters working right along the staff. Folks this is the REAL deal, these people are as down home Texas as youll ever find and that in its self draws me here because Texans are the finest folks youll ever come across. Now if your looking for high prices, gourmet food and a staff that will kiss your ass just keep driving. But if your looking for the above, well make sure you stop in. Youll feel welcome right off. PS they only take cash but do have a ATM. I dont fault them on this as Im about sick of high CC fees in my business too!

We have been loyal Bill Smiths customers for many many many years. Recently they have hired a new croud of horrible waitstaff, so horrible we will have to cease going there until they hire new staff and get a manager on premises. Our most recent visit was beyond shameful. There was no manager to take care of the situation: outside of the everyday filth (unkempt, but if the price is right you look over this) the waitresses were cussing, fighting, and getting the food wrong, yelling at the customers (us and others) for asking for silverware, napkins, etc which is normally included on the table. To top off the situation, they dropped their food on me, (having to drive a long way home to change) without an apology, as well as ruining my purse to no end. I have to say, I AM ASHAMED OF YOU BILL SMITH. No one was there to control these unruly bunch of staff. and yes, they required full payment.

This place was recommended through a friend, and let me tell you I was very pleased with my first and 5th visit. Always went during the weekend but, never displeased. My sixth visit was horrible. Dont get me wrong. I went on a Sunday morning when business was booming. What got me displeased was that I sat down and everybody around me got there food 15 to 30 minutes earlier than I did after they arrived 15 to 30 minutes after we did. Was it the elderly waitress excessively talking to everyone, being friendly or not being competent in keeping her orders straight. Well whatever the reason, us going back is probably not going to happen. Trying to COMP us a meal does not make things right. Waiting an hour for my food is not justification to tell me your going to COMP my food. Beware my food junkies!!!!

I had high hopes going here for breakfast this morning. Ive been told by numerous people that Bill Smiths serves the best of the best breakfast so after much anticipation we went to try it. Basically without going into a long spelledout explanation; Bacon - undercooked and I dont just mean limp, I mean raw. Eggs - got mine over meadium and the yolks were over hard and covered in cold vegetable oil. Hasbrowns - raw and tasted like they were cooked on the underside of the grill. Toast - The biscuits and Gravy was pretty good. Im guessing the waitress decided I didnt need toast. All in all I would rather drive 2.5 hours to Hico, Texas and eat at the Koffee Kup which is half the price, twice the food and so much better in every way possible.

Had to ask to get the server to wipe the slop off the table where we were seated. Did a poor job of even wiping the table. Coffee tasted stale and hours old. Pancakes came out good and hot, but the eggs were stone cold. Waitress asked how was the food so I mentioned that the eggs were cold when they landed. She said let me fix that for you. Took my plate and stuck it in a microwave turning what was left of my eggs to small bricks. The sausage patties were waay overcooked and somewhere close to tasteless cardboard. Skip this place if you have any tastebuds or concern for your health. Better off fasting than eating in this sloppy, germ ridden anachronism to food service. What a disappointment after it was highly recommended.

Good food great prices but the service is horrible I felt a bit discriminated ? As soon as we walk in the lady behind the register says just look for a place to sit so uhm ok. find a place server finally comes what do you want blah blah food comes mine was cold but good prices are ok nothing crazy cheap similar to Dennys prices. Funny thing is they dont accept cash good thing I read the reviews or else I wouldve been one un happy camper overall looks of the place pretty cool just wish servers had customer service and not nose and eyebrow piercings. Last but not least the parking spaces !!!! Looks like a kid drew these UNEVEN so no one can park correctly next time Ill just go to Dennys

Cash only. They do not accept standard forms of payment. The food is as good as youd expect for a breakfast cafe, but with bad coffee, and IHOP style hashbrowns. The environment cultivated by this restaurant is not unlike a biker bar, oppressive, traditional, and passively unwelcome to a broader public as it probably was in 1956. If you are looking for a diner with authentic nostalgia, warts and all, this is your place as evidenced by some of the other glowing reviews. I would just assume pay a little more and enjoy the superior comfort, courtesy, quality, and convenience of a Cracker Barrel.

Bring cash as they dont accept credit. This is a diner/"dive" that has been in operation since 1956. If its your first time, then seat yourself in any open table. There are 4 separate dining rooms, so if the first one you see if full then just keep going in deeper. We usually come here for breakfast and my wife swears by their pancakes. Nice and fluffy with a nice "crust" on it that makes it perfect. My usual is the triple decker sandwich with a side of eggs. It aint fancy, but its just like grandma would make. Tastes good , simple and honest food that wont break your budget at all.

My wife & I ate here for the first time today. Passed it a million times and never stopped, glad we finally did. Walking in is like stepping through a time machine. Decor is nothing fancy but if you can appreciate old school diners this place is great. The food was good and the prices are crazy cheap! Food comes out quick and the staff is amazingly friendly. I think everyone in the building greeted us at some point! We will definitely be frequenting Bill Smiths a lot more! Great experience!
