I have been coming to this restaurant for around three months now. Having lived in Japan I wanted an authentic Japanese styled restaurant within 10-15 miles of my home that I could retreat to once a week to relax. I chose Friday nights as it is a great time due to the weekend coming up as well as specials going on. The first thing I will say to any Japanese citizens living in the area is that this place is authentic with a slight American flair to it. It is certainly no Jiros but it works for the location and what they have to work with. If you wish they have a private backroom if you would like a more quiet dining experience with your party. Please note that if you are looking for an "Americanized" Japanese restaurant with 5+ pages of rolls on the menu or 10+ pages of bento boxes this is not the place for you. The only thing "American" about it is that they have around 15 tables where bigger families may sit at, and a 2nd bar with just liquor behind it for strictly alcohol patrons. The restaurant is ran by Yuji Suzuki-san who is also the head chef behind the bar. He is a native from Japan and has been living in the area for over 20 years so he is certainly knowledgeable. He speaks perfect Japanese for anyone who is learning the language and wants to converse and practice or for our Japanese citizens who feel more comfortable speaking in their native tongue. This is the man who makes the magic happen. He is very friendly, courteous, patient, and will adapt to your specific tastes to make sure you have the most pleasant experience possible. Do not be afraid to tell him what you like or do not like. If you are feeling a little gutsy, give the "omakase" (leave it to the chef) course a try and I guarantee you will be satisfied. A standard in Japan to determine whether or not a chefs sushi is great or not is by their tamago (egg) sushi pieces. Many taste-testers will eat this first to determine whether or not the place is worth eating at. Hanashos does not disappoint. They are usually made by Suzuki-sans apprentice Omar who has also been working there for quite some time. Naturally you have your assorted rolls to choose from, as well as a few bento boxes, but the pride and joy of any true Japanese restaurant is the assortment of sushi. Salmon, Mackerel, Halibut, Squid, Tuna (both chutoro and toro available), Eel, Roe, Pike, and more are always around and they are delicious. Try them all! If you sit at the bar (and you should if you are alone to meet new fellow patrons both regulars and one-timers) be sure to buy Suzuki-san and Omar a beer for their hard work. This is almost customary in Japan and is very polite. You really cant say too much more without being long-winded so if you live in the area, or are just generally looking for a good sushi bar to try, give this place a shot. Hope to see you there!

Cant wait to go back there! Im going to start off by saying I dont know how much the bill was, a family friend had taken us out to eat there. Now! There were 6 of us, it wasnt very busy because it was a Wednesday night and we were greeted immediately. The place really doesnt look like much, especially if youre used to more upscale places, but you grow accustom to the atmosphere really quickly. Everyone was polite and our waitress was incredibly sweet and had an accent, she was very obviously Japanese. She was such a nice lady and took our orders quickly but didnt badger us about it at all. My Mother and younger sister ordered the Teriyaki Salmon and Chicken, both were really good and the teriyaki sauce was delicious. My boyfriend ordered the Japanese Hamburger (it comes topped with a poached egg.) It lacked seasoning to me but was still really good, my boyfriend really liked it. Our friend ordered the Shoyu ramen, which he loved, and my older sister and I ordered the Miso ramen. I was afraid I wouldnt like it, but the broth really grows on you! It was extremely good! A little too oily for me (my stomach cant handle much oil) but after a bite or two of rice I was good to go! My sister loved it too. Overall, Im DEFINITELY coming back with my girl friends to try the Shoyu ramen and the Sukiyaki!

Was a little nervous about the quality given that its in the middle of a strip of run-down looking shops. Its just an older area and this place was a pleasant surprise. The interior was cozy, low-lighting. Its not the best but its nice for a date, casual or family dining. Saw all types of people. Really caters to the sushi lover with a extensive sushi menu. Also serves a variety of normal Japanese dishes. The staff is friendly and almost too attentive but its sweet. My "go-to" at sushi places is always the Unagi. By far, the best Ive tasted. All the rolls were great as well. Recommend the Yakitori as an appetizer - very tender chicken. The prices are on par with nearly every other Japanese restaurant that Ive been to. This was not fast food and the quality was well worth the price.

Authentic Japanese food (not just sushi), and a friendly sushi chef who actually speaks Japanese. It doesnt get much better than this. I do have two notes. The first is that if you are looking for Americanized sushi this isnt what I would recommend. I took and friend there and she was disappointed that they didnt have an Ahi Tower. The second note is that they dont do very well with large parties with separate checks. I took a large group of coworkers one time (a dozen or so) there was a lot of confusion when it was time to pay. I would still recommend it, but be prepared to be more patient if you have a large group.

Great nigiri and specialty rolls. The prices are very reasonable and the staff is super attentive while not being overbearing. Usually come here for some nigiri and the wife usually has udon, both have never failed to diappoint. The Pork Katsu is also nice. No ones perfect and the same is true here. The yakisoba is probably 3 out of 5, and the california roll is a bit underwhelming. I didnt knock off a star because I still really love this place and the rest of the menu more than makes up for the shortfalls.

Ive been going to Hanasho for years. It is my go to sushi place and I go there often. Ive taken sushi & non-sushi lovers there and everyone enjoyed the experience. The sushi has always been fresh, the staff friendly, and basically everything on the menu is good. Hanasho also makes the best agadashi tofu anywhere....hands down. It is my tween daughters favorite restaurant and we eat out alot. Im prompted to write this review because Im in disbelief reading Jennifers experience.

I have been coming here for ten years. Wait staff had changed but the same head chef still takes pride in his work. Great sushi options even on a budget, like the kampyo and ume shiso rolls to fill you up without breaking the bank. Rarely crowded, this place really is one of the best kept secrets in Dallas. Now that I do not live in DFW anymore, I dont mind the secret getting out!
