When you order takeout here, you are taking your life in your hands, literally. My first try, in this new local restaurant was a pot roast and grilled cheese on toast. What I got was slimy cold brown stuff at one end of the container, with orange goo and two pieces of rainbow bread with more goo sliding out of them. The cold old french fries were covered in more orange goo. My next try was a Greek Salad, with calamata olives, artichoke hearts, red peppers, tomatoes, cheese, a special dressing. What I got was a container of wilted greens, with a prominently displayed kinky black hair and a very skinny piece of toasted bread that I think was supposed to be garlic bread. I took a big serving fork and stirred around the greens to see if I could find anything. Nope. Needless to say, that went where the pot roast goo went. A week later, I decided to try again. What could they do to a hamburger, I asked myself. Last night, I found out. I ordered their basic with tomatoes, lettuce, red onions, and mozzarella. I wisely (I thought), avoided the french fries and went with their potato soup. Got home, and first tried the soup. The color should have frightened me off. It was brown. What I tasted was a massive amount of bacon fat in mushroom flavored goo. In the mix was small hardened chunks of unskinned potatoes. It had been sitting all day and then nuked unevenly heating and hardening the mess. Okay, so onward to the hamburger. At least it looked alright. I took a bite and found the two patties on the inside to be very dry and hard, and tasteless as cardboard. No amount of salt and pepper could save these patties which were as hard as jerky. In the trash went that dinner. The upside of the once a week Black Walnut experiment is I have lost weight. I am thinking of writing a book. The Black Walnut diet. The premise is simple. Buy an expensive takeout from them, (no problem, there. All their food is overpriced) It is guaranteed to be so awful, you wont be able to eat it. Eat normally the next day. One night a week without dinner will cause gradual weight loss, By spring, you will be bathing suit ready.

This place is very nice inside but somewhat noisy. The back dining room is better as it is carpeted. The background music is modern and somewhat "urban" or younger generation which doesnt go with the way the place is decorated. Kinda annoying to be honest. I got a Santa Fe Salad and my wife got a Black Walnut salad. But her salad came out looking rather plain and she thought the apples were sour. She took her salad back to the counter and said it wasnt right. A young woman there said the salad dressing was on the side and had not been included. But the green apple pieces were not right, too bitter. The woman offered my wife to remake the salad and then offered a different one. My wife agreed and asked for an "Endless Summer" salad which was sweeter. It turns out the young woman was the manager and turned a "sour" experience into a very good one. She was very apologetic and professional and took care of the situation. Very impressed with her and, other than that salad experience, we are impressed with the food and ambiance of the place. This was our third visit here in the last year or so.

First of all the ordering process is very unclear and confusing to a first timer. The cashier in my experience was very rude and seemed like customer service was not her strong point. The line to get drinks was unorganized as people stood there trying to make their coffee just right taking a lot of time with people waiting behind them. The food didnt take too long but the quality for the price was poor. It was also very inconvenient for me to have to go grab 3 hot plates and bring it to my table and then realize that I had to go back and get silverware. The pancakes tasted bland and old. The French toast was soggy and the lemon zest they add was a weird twist that I personally didnt like. There was only one time somebody came to pick up some plate and ask how we were doing. When I told him not very well he just picked up the plates and walked away. Overall it was a bad experience and I would not recommend it over even IHOP.

Excellent breakfast service. It was a little unclear how the ordering and serving process works here when I entered the first time. To help others...menus are at the front door, grab one and decide what you want either before heading to the register to order or while standing in line. Place your order and pay, you will receive a flashing, vibrating coaster that will go off when your food is ready. Go pick up your food at the counter beside the register. There is no table service. It operates much like a Panera Bread but not as obvious. The breakfast was very good and not very expensive. Pluses: atmosphere, upscale look and feel, excellent thick cut bacon. Negatives: very bland almost tasteless pancakes, ordering, seating, and pickup process that isnt immediately obvious.

We eat here a few times a year because it is my mother-in-laws favorite restaurant. Its a very lovely place, a little too busy to call it cozy, but comfy. The food is very tasty too. Id say it was on the mildly spice side depending on what you get. My only real gripe is that the ordering system takes some getting used to. You order at the register, then sit down and wait for your buzzer to go off, then you get your own plates and take them to your table. If you have drinks, you sometimes have to go to the bar and wait for them. And im talking about orange juice and regular stuff, not alcoholic stuff. Anyway - Overall this is a very nice place to eat and I do recommend it.

The food is usually good at this location but when I was there yesterday I waited about 20 mins for my food at a non-busy hours and when I got my food it was not hot. So, I had no choice but to risk sending my food back. The Walnut is a place where you order your food then pay upfront. P.S. there ritzy Maple syrupy makes the pancakes taste odd in my opinion, and Im not a fan of it at all. You my want to taste the Maple syrup first before you pour it all over your pancakes, waffles, or French toast; to see if you like. I always opt for the more regular tasting Sugar free syrup. I dont know if they have other syrup option, the Maple syrup is standard with the breakfasts.

Nice decor. Too bad the food and service doesnt live up to it. My omelet was greasy and flavorless. The cheese on top looked like an oil spill and left a coating on my tongue. Still trying to wash it off. Ive had better food at IHOP. Bartender was slow and didnt seem to care. The manager was trying to adjust the lights that apparently have been broken for a week and alternated between off and full bright for the first five minutes. Seems to me thats something you work on before opening or after close. Ill give this another shot another time because of the other reviews but right now I am very disappointed.
