This place has amazing food for the price. On my first trip, I had the Exquisito on the recommendation of the manager. It didnt disappoint: - 6 ounces of pork carnitas that was so tender it fell apart - 6 ounce fish fillet perfectly cooked - 3 jumbo shrimp - 4-6 ounces of steak fajita - 4-6 ounces of chicken fajita - all over a bed of carmelizing onions, tomatoes and fresh jalapeno. The second plate had beans, rice, pico (you could tell the stuff wasnt frozen by the vibrancy of the colors. Tomatoes tend to go colorless when frozen), guacamole, and fresh tortillas. The staff was attentive, friendly, and constantly checking on us. Overall, just an amazing first experience. They only opened up two months ago, so spread the word if you go. This is the kind of restaurant I want to stick around in my area.

Food was good, but the absolute worse service. We were served 2 times within the 2.5 hours we were there. Never got any refills dispite asking several times. We had to ask for utensils after the food came out, then waited 15 mins for it. We had to ask 3 times for our check, ended up waiting an hour for it. Over all the meal should have taken an hour max, took an extra hour and a half more from waiting.

Cooking Dirty

I used to come here when it was Tio Chuchos. The food was good but it got grimey inside. Now that the new owners have taken over the food is just as good or better, the place is clean, the smell is gone, and the service is spectacular. I highly recommend this restaurant for lunch if you are in the area. the portions are good and the price is right. Great lunch specials too. This is a winner.

I ordered a sprite and the ice had black specs, which tells me their ice machine was dirty/slimey. This made me not want much of my food. I ordered caldo de res and had only the broth. The meat was very poor so d idnt try it. The service was good, but the staff were eating McDonalds a few booths down and left all their bags and drinks out on the table when they finished.

This is probably the best customer service youll receive at a Mexican restaurant, from the waiters to the food quality. Weve been here before but this time we ordered caldo to go, and unfortunately they spilled the very limited freshly-made caldo while pouring it and when we got a more expensive fajita plate instead, they compensated us by not charging us the difference.

They are relatively new and Ive already been here almost a dozen times. I love the food, the presentation is appealing, the service is excellent. Sometimes they are busier then others but the food is fast to the table and Always spot on. Oh yeah they have great green sauce which is of major importance :)

My friend took me to this place one time, and i fell in love! I have been to this location multiple times, and everytime Ive been here the food was AMAZING! The salsas are to die for, and everyone that works there is super friendly! I think that this is the best mexican restaurant in Houston.

We attempted to eat there. Had a good start to the meal. As we waited for the rest of our party to arrive we had chips and salsa. On the second bowl of chips we discovered a large roach in our basket of chips. Needless to say, we immediately left. I dont recommend this place to anyone.

We have been waiting for this place to open for awhile,definitely worth the wait . Each and every person employeed here was very polite and attended to all of our needs. Food was tasty and fresh and the margaritas were delicious and effective. Thank you Chavez cafe.....see you soon.

Best Mex on this side of town and in Houston as far as Im concerned. Used to go to the gessner location but this one is closer to my house. Quality control on point! Not to mention you cant beat their prices. Owner is hard working that knows what good quality is.

Tortillas, rice, beans (charro), chips and salsa are authentic enough. Meat could be of much better quality. Its usually quiet and unoccupied early on the weekends. A place to get a taste of Mexican food but not particularly memorable.

Chavez Mexican Cafe is a new find for us. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal from the salsa right down to the delicious Margaritas. We had shrimp, beef and chicken with homemade corn and flour tortillas.
