It was our anniversary lunch planned at Ashiana and it was our first visit and will be the last one too. We got into an argument on our way back home about selecting this restaurant. Had a bad anniversary to celebrate with. Buffet over priced than the other good restaurants. Taste is horrible. Veg and non-veg lined together. I guess they cater only the western population than Indian - that is how the menu was and the pricing too. Though called traditional dishes, the significant taste is completely lost. Do you want some good food to eat and time to relax go some where else but not here. You will save money and get the satisfaction. On top of it you will be happy too. Please guys stay away from this restaurant.

Being an Indian, I visit this place often with family and colleagues. I frequent this restaurant once in a month. The buffet is quite good quality and food is freshly served. The variety of food is also good during the buffet lunches. The ambiance is pretty good and light setting perfect at dinner time. The selection of vegetarian entrees is handful but I have tried almost all of them Paneer Tikka being the favorite of all. I also recommend Baingan ka Bharta. If you like spicy do let them know that you like spicy and you wont be disappointed. The naan(bread) they serve is always fresh and soft to eat with the entrees. Highly Recommend!

My suggestion.. Stay away if you want authentic Indian food. I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and Malai Kofta. First of all, the dishes are way over priced (35-50% more) than other comparable Indian restaurants. When I took the first bite, I was a little confused if I ordered SWEET instead of savory dish. I would call their Chicken Tikka Masala as Chicken Meetha (Sweet in Hindi) Masala. The koftas from the Malai Kofta had gone bad. Honestly, after being so pricey, this kind of quality and even service is absolutely unacceptable. Save your hard earned dollars for another place and spread the word!!!

Their food is very expensive, but is not good enough to be worth the price you have to pay to eat there. The main thing that made me very angry at this restaurant is that they served me some extremely spicy food, and then never refilled my water glass. The employees disappeared for a while when I was dying needing water because of the spiciness, then finally they stood up at the front chatting, completely ignoring the customers. Finally I had to go up to the counter and get my own pitcher of water and carry it to my table myself. Needless to say, I have never been back.

In a nutshell, a horrible experience. Heres why: We went for dinner @9.30PM on Christmas Day. When we were taking food, they started to pick up the plates and the cutlery, saying that the restaurant is about to close. The manager even told us "I do not know who let you in". When we came in, they should have been honest enough to tell us that they are already closed (even though the restaurant was still flashing the "open" light) and not entertaining any more guests. We could not even finish our dinner. Never before we were treated so badly in any restaurant.

This is my second favorite Indian Restaurant in the entire city, second only to Bombay Brasserie in the Village. This place is swanky, upscale, authentic, and delicious. The dishes tend to vary slightly in terms of oiliness and spice level depending on who is in the kitchen that day, and they are happy to custom tailor the spice for your orders. Their wine list is extensive, too. But its hard to get out of there for less than $50 for 2 people. So expect a larger tab. But its high quality, so you get what you pay for, as with most things in life.

Very very over priced,Ordered a lamb Biryani for 22$ plus tax, thought the quality will be great for the price because the competitors prices are around 12-14$ for the same biryani(small). But very very disappointed got a tasteless hard to chew lamb biryani with very less quantity that only one individual can eat where as competitors biryani is a family pack with desserts and will fill 3 people full with very good taste which is around 22-24$. Waste of money, No , I dont recommend this restaurant to any one.

Ive been to this restaurant twice now; once for dinner and once for sunday buffet. It looks very upscale, but I go in jeans and a t-shirt and never feel out of place. They have tasty dishes and a wide selection of beer--more than most restaurants Ive seen! I will gladly come back. They arent too expensive, but definitely not the cheapest Indian food in the area. However, they are the best decor of any Indian restaurant Ive been to sans The Bombay Brasserie in the Galleria.

Just back after dinner at this place. Everything from food ordering to serving was ok, but what pissed me off was an additional charge of $2.95 on the bill for "pickle and onion". After spending 40$ on dinner for two, I never expected them to charge me for this stuff which is usually complimentary. Management needs yo see what is important for them - repeat customers or make money by putting these spurious charges. Rip off! (Will write same review on yelp and urbanspoon also)

I had a bad experience trying Indian food and held off doing it again until I was told to try Ashiana as it is so highly rated and I live right down the street. Im glad I did! We went for the lunch buffet on a Saturday afternoon so that we could try out a huge variety of food and it was all great. We washed it all down with some delicious mango lassi. Will definitely be returning!

I am a foodie.. I love decent food, and always try out different types of food. All I can say is that this is the WORST Indian place in Houston.. In my books, I had originally ranked Mayuri as the worst Indian place in Houston, but I went here today and this surpassed it by far... If you want to pay a buttload of money for crap, definitely go there..

Just came back from buffet. The quality of food has deteriorated significantly. The Ashiana Daal which was daal makhani essentially was "liquidy". The korma and chicken tikka masala were quiet bad as well. The naan was good and so was the Mango Mousse. This was my last visit to this place. $14.95 is too steep a price for the quality of food served .

Not a great experience. Twice when i carried out food in last 1 month, they had forgotten to put an item. Staff and service has gone from bad to worse. One of the persons in staff is really nice (forgot his name) - everyone else needs some formal training. They are rude!!!!! Go at your own risk...

The quality and taste was substandard. Prices are at least 30% more than other places. The funniest thing I found we ordered Appetizer sampler for over $ 15 and it came with 1 shrimp (single piece of shrimp) and small fillet of catfish. Not worth going. Waste of time and money.

This may be my favorite Indian food restaurant. They have a lunch time buffet where you can get most of the popular Indian dishes. Everything Ive tried on the dinner menu has been great. The interior is clean and usually quiet which is great for a business lunch.
