We wore in the area so decided to look online for nearby restaurant we found this one, (a group of 3) the server was nice I am open to any other types of food, I order shrimp in a Creole type of style with cassava-thats more like a Yuca in my country in Puerto Rico we make it its like a potato but with flavor we salute with olive oil and lots of onions its yummy, my friend order lamb it was not soft/tender I also taste some type of red rice that tasted more like a school cafeteria type made with sauce (that taste like spaghetti sauce) I was not impressed with the food or appetizers, FOOD LOOKS SIMILAR TO CARRIBEAN, the is made same style we cook it I am from Puerto Rico we cook similar but with LOTS OF TASTINGS, FLAVOR AND GARLIC if you like this FOOD try Puerto Rican FOOD go to Humboldt park and Google highly recommended .

Yassa has the best Food of the African diaspora. Every dish is amazingly prepared and the taste is something to behold !!! The service is awesome ! The owners are hospitable and kind ! The hostess and wait staff are extremely friendly and always willing to go the extra mile for each guest! The ambiance is on point and its so inviting ! I look forward to my next dining experience their ! I have yet to visit the Motherland though when I do I am certain Senegal will be one of my destinations in part due to what Yassa represents in its delivery of a great West African / Senegalese experience 5 plus star every time !!!!

Friendly people and great food. I ordered the maafe. It tasted great, and was very filling. It was nice that the serving was a good size. As you can see from the picture, I ordered the maafe with fried plantains (my friend did the same). A woman came to ask how we were doing (owner?) then asked why we ordered plantains with the maafe. She said that we were supposed to eat that with rice, so she brought us rice to go with our meal for free and even showed us how we were supposed to put the stew on the rice. It was like we had our Mom there, which was great. I would definitely return.

Food is absolutely incredible, and prices are very reasonable. Plus, its BYOB. But do NOT go there for a quick meal. Service is slow. Their website recommends putting in takeout orders 30 minutes in advance. Still, its a 5 star meal. The food is amazingly good, and underpriced. I tried the lamb in peanut and tomato kinda stew dish and it was amazing. My wife had the Yassa chicken with couscous and fried plantains and it was even better. So we brought our own drinks and the bill was...$27 (w/o tip). I will be going back very, very soon.

They were soooooo hospitable. The only complaint was that they brung us two of the same orders, which were the lamb with rice pilaf. It was so delicious that we did not mind. Prices are very affordable. Could easily feed two people for $30.00. And as for it being timely, the food is super fresh, made to order, so its well worth it. The host engaged my fiance aand I, which made the welcome inviting and warm. Would definitely recommend if you were looking for an authentic African meal.

Food was amazing!!! Extremely flavorful. Laid back atmosphere. Just sit down where you want and a hospitable server will make you feel welcome and answer any questions you might have. Yassa Lamb was so juicy and tender. Food was extremely fresh. Every 2nd Tuesday they have live band playing jazz and cool beats. I already booked my calendar for the next time band is playing. Large portions.. Im still full, and its BYOB. They will provide glasses and ice

Food was NOT good There was real housewives or something like MTV blaring on the tvs, very annoying. - The people were nice - The art all over really gave it a historic cultural feel. Price wasnt as cheap as I was expecting for a low maintenance place like this. - Good place to get a group together, if you dont care about the food, easy street parking and you can just pull up a chair!

They made the best lamb chops and plantains Ive ever had! And its hard to find bissal so Im glad they have it. Portions are huge and prices are great. For about $20 my boyfriend and I shared the above meal for dinner and were stuffed. I heard service was slow so I got take out, and the host was super friendly and helpful and thankful. If youre in Chicago, you must try their food!

This place is like visiting family! The food is exceptional! Most do not understand that the food is made to order and may complain about serving time. However, this is not just a place to get food, its an experience! You are supposed to put your phone down, enjoy all around you, eat, and feed your spirit. Great food, great people, great time! I LOVE this place!

I really enjoyed the food. The lamb was cooked to perfection. The taste was amazing. The chicken was good. The rice was spectacular and the plantains were devine. The cabbage was just ok. I had the Nem which was amazing and some type of salmon empanada which was a little to spicy for me. Overall it was an excellent meal. The portions are huge. Will go back for sure.

For my 1st experience with African cuisine was amazing. The red snapper with cabbage & plantains was excellent. The dish was prepared with love. Im allergic to tomatoes & this being the Lenten season I can only eat fish on Friday, our server made it easy for me & made great choices. Yassa thank you for making my 1st experience wonderful.

Excellent food. The owner and staff are very nice! If you are a foodie, you gotta go there. The Yassa chicken is a must have, add some fataya and Lamb Dibi. Thiebou dieune is the signature Senegalese dish and you couldnt go wrong with that. When i come back to Chicago, I am definitely stopping by Yassa Restaurant.

They have great service and food which is automatically a plus. They also serve nice big servings of their sides which I like because meat isnt what the meal should fully consist of. If you want a real African feel go sit and eat there, on a nice night youll get your moneys worth with the crowd and the restaurant.

Went this weekend for some takeout, ordered the shrimp dinner and Dibi chicken dinner. Shrimp dinner had exactly 5 shrimp in it, lol. The chicken was ok, nothing really spectacular. The plantain was very good. Probably wont be back. The owner seemed to stare at me when I came in, that was wierd

Awesome food! Taking you out of the normal American food. The BBQ lamb was unlike anything I have ever tasted. Finger licking good! They make a fried rice to enjoy another great style for your taste buds. I wished to have found this place earlier in my stay in Chicago.
