Where to start... I took my family to Taj restaurant lunch buffet a couple of days after it opened. We had an extremely bad experience. I have been to ALL Indian and Pakistani restaurants in 20miles radius, but I have never seen an worse one. > The staff was rude. They did not even give us water in the first 20 minutes. Then I asked them at least 8 times for nan (Indian bread). They brought us some old nan after we had eaten 2 rounds of curry. My son was not hungry to eat by then. > They gave puri and paratha to the non-Indian guests and never gave us. If you are Indian, they may treat you like that. We were well-dressed, but still they did not even bother to serve us. If you are going there, do go in suits. May be they will server you better. > The food was not at all good. Anyone can cook better food. Even the fast food restaurants server better food. > The variety of dishes was minimum - hardly a few types of curry. > Have you seen an Pakistani/Indian buffet that has no chicken/mutton curry? Try Taj. > All they had was some chicken wings, paya, halim. For those who dont know Paya, it is basically feet bones with no meat. > Taj buffet just tries its best to provide cheap food and charge you more. > They charge $15 for buffet. You could get much better buffet in this area for much cheaper. I am never going back there. And I suggested all of my friends not to try out that place. I was just waiting for Taj restaurant to show up in the google so that I can give my review and help other people.

I recently visited Taj Restaurant with 8 buddies from our Samunder Club. I liked the food, as did everyone present. During the latter half of the meal the owner Farookh Khan visited our table and he talked to us quite nicely. Overall,we had a good experience. I cannot understand why there are such bad reviews of this place. The decor is superb, the food was tasty and fresh during lunchtime, and the staff was friendly. The Nepalese Cook and his wife who also works there came to our table to talk to us and inquire about the food quality. The Maitred, his name is Ali, is quite nice. After the lunch we made a decision to have Taj cater our Fall Technical presentation for 100 oil and gas industry folks on Oct 29th. Considering the bad reviews, I do hope the food will be good. But judging from what we ate and the ambiance of the place, I am confident it will be. Joe Lobo+

I recently attended an event at this restaurant. The service was extremely poor. The Biryani served had bones only and the restaurant did not even refill the trays. Also stay away from the female owner of the restaurant. She was extremely rude to all the guests and didnt help make sure the food was restocked properly. I believe I may have caught a disease from the restaurant because of how dirty the silverware was. When I complained, my complaint was returned by a shrug of the shoulder by the owner. DO NOT GO HERE. There are many Indo/Pak restaurants in Houston that have very good food with very nice service. Why should someone pay for overpriced food that doesnt even taste good and horrible service. I go to restaurants to treat myself, not to get more stressed out.

I have been to just about every Indian/Pakistani restaurant in town. I am extremely picky about flavors, presentation, authenticity of dishes and ambiance. I was completely surprised as I walked in to this place where I attended a private party, since I had never heard of it. The decor is enchanting, with a mix of shabby chic, modern, ethnic and high end fashion. The appetizers instantaneously alerted me to the level of cuisine I would be experiencing. Each dish I had was precisely seasoned and not the typical menu items you would find at other restaurants. All of our family was raving at the new find and I will be sure to recommend this as a place for future events and for an upscale dining experience.

I used to go this place quite regularly and used to like this place 2 yrs back. Though it is quite costly compare to other places and the variety was limited, but the quality was good. But, for the past 1 year or so this is the worst place to take your guest or even eat out with your family, the food is horrible, possibly they have changed the cook. Recently, I tried the Chicken Malai Kebab, the quantity was like a kid size and I have to throw it to the trash, as it was awfully salted and hard at the cost of ~$15. The other day, I tried their Biriyani, which is also very bad in taste. Overall, I am not retuning to this place in near future.

We just found this Indian buffet place today and I must say that we thought it was lovely. The food is tasty and flavorful, and the spicy items arent TOO spicy ;-) We especially liked the chicken Masala and the Paneer was terrific too. They also served fresh made naan. The cost is very reasonable for the lunch buffet, $13.95 per person. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that the selection is a bit limited. I wish I could rate it 4.5 stars, that would better reflect how much I liked it. We will definitely be back.

Really beautiful restaurant inside. Its a buffet style so you get seated then grab your food. The furniture looked like it came from Restoration Hardware and it was a very classy feel. I was let down by the food options and variety last time I went: only 3 lunch dishes with 1 desserts option. Ive been to many other Indian buffets that have 3 rows of platter options. This was a little table by the seating area. Very polite service though, always had my glass filled. And very pricey for the food options. Around $20 if I remember right.

Houston Review
Hands down worst service and food in Houston. LITERALLY any buffet in Houston would be better. The food was nothing but bones and the service was nonexistent. I think the buffet was also all leftovers from the day before. Nothing was fresh at all. I was hoping the decor would mean that the food was at least decent. Highly highly disappointed. I would never recommend this place to anyone, especially if you are taking out of town guests because the decor is decent. Try Shahnai or Tempura.

This restaurant has excellent food but make sure you ask for the full menu, not the edited short version that doesnt have their best dishes on it. Our favorites are the Rogan ghost and Baingan bharta, but a lot of other dishes are delicious. Their versions of tikka masala and saag paneer are outstanding and their curries are delicious. We have yet to try many other dishes on their menu.

Im not an Indian food expert, but I found the food to be excellent. Even at peak lunch hour there was plenty of space for immediate seating, and the buffet setup made for a quick meal. Dont be fooled by the strip mall exterior, this place is quite nice inside and worth a visit if you are looking for good Indian fare. Cost for 4 people with was 70 dollars.

One word: great. The food is great. Service is great. Ambiance is great. Its the best naan in town, the butter chicken is indulgent, lamb rogan gosht is lovely, and there are some delicious dishes that weve tried here and nowhere else that have been awesome. The staff is always very pleasant and accommodating ... even to pint sized clientele.
