First off, I would like to say that my husband and I have been to Oni at least a dozen times in the last couple months because the Ramen is amazing here... which is probably why we continued to come back, despite the horrible service. Also, I think its important to note that it is NOT cheap, despite what the owner might think. However, after our last encounter, we decided we will NEVER be back. There are multiple reasons, but the main one is because of how the OWNER himself responded to us. Also, look at how he responds to people on here... always a backhanded apology mixed with passive aggressiveness where he just makes excuses and never accepts responsibility. We are not the type of people to publicly blast a restaurant, so after the last issue, we decided to privately message the owner so he could at least be aware of all the problems we experienced with his restaurant in hopes that he could address them privately. His response was deplorable, which is why I feel obligated to share this with potential customers. Not only did he not apologize, he said that he was just out of a seasoning, and he was fine with us not returning. He continued to make passive aggressive remarks and concluded with the statement that "His only job as a chef OWNER is to make sure the food is good. Everything else I dont pay much attention to." Soooo basically he is saying that he is aware of the horrible service his restaurant provides and doesnt care. Not only that, he is expecting customers to still support his business (make him money and pay his bills) even when they are treated poorly at his restaurant. I find it interesting that he feels he can be so arrogant when this is his first restaurant and he is depending on loyal customers (like we were) to make him a success, and yet thinks its ok to treat them like crap as long as "the food is good." I now realize that, as long as he is in charge, his restaurants will NEVER provide good customer service because the issue starts at the top. He is a poor example and leader for his employees, so If he doesnt care, then why would his employees? Consequently, I will NEVER support an owner that doesnt think his customers are a priority. The problems we had leading up to this point are as follows: 1. 1st visit- We literally saw our waiter twice. Once to take our order and the second to bring it out. I had to go up to the bar to get a refill on our waters. However, the Ramen was excellent, so we decided to give it another shot. 2. 2nd visit- It took 15 minutes for someone to take our order, and that was with me going up to a server and asking them to take it. But the Ramen was good... 3. The 3rd and 4th visit were great as we finally found a good server; Helen 4. 5th visit- We came in at lunch, and even though there were a TON of open tables, we were told there was a 40 minute wait. They openly admitted that they only scheduled 2 people to work (during peak lunch hour) and didnt expect this many people to show up. 5. Around the 8th visit, we came during happy hour by accident, but ordered our usual. It was horrible. The Ramen was lukewarm, and both the egg and extra pork belly we ordered were missing when they brought it out. Instead of taking it back, the brought out a cold piece of pork belly and two eggs (also cold) on a small plate. We had a couple more decent visits thanks to Helen, but overall the experience here is horrible, and is a result of the shameful owner.

My boyfriend and I are not from Ft Worth. We travel for a living, and were passing through because of work. We thought it would be nice to have ramen for dinner. Not gonna lie, we looked at the other, more established ramen house in this area first. But it was closed on Sundays, so we decided to give Oni a try. The restaurant wasnt very crowded, so when we walked in the hostess (who was at the bar area) told us to take a menu and sit anywhere, then come to the bar when we were ready to order. We got edamame for an appetizer, my boyfriend got shoyu tonkotsu with added mushrooms, and I got shio tonkotsu with added soy egg and black garlic oil. They were out of bamboo shoots, so we were offered the option to substitute a vegetable of our choice (we both picked greens). My boyfriend, who has a condition that makes him sensitive to salt, asked if there were low sodium options...and there are! They have low sodium broths and seasonings. We were given a number which we took back to our table. Our drinks and appetizer were served with a smile. Our meal came out just a few minutes later. It was hot, fresh, and delicious! I loved the chewy, perfectly cooked ramen noodles and the flavorful broth. The pork belly was seasoned perfectly and it was a very good cut, I enjoyed it very much. The soy egg for me is the best part of ramen, and although I forgot to ask for mine soft-boiled instead of hard, it was still delicious! My boyfriend also enjoyed his meal and commented several times on how delicious everything was. I thought the portion sizes were perfect and the bowl size was ideal for mixing all the ingredients together. I know a lot of earlier reviews mention problems or confusion with the style of service...looking around the restaurant, my bf and I both saw how things could easily get messy during a lunch rush, with people having to order at the bar. From what I understand the restaurant is changing their service style, so Id say dont let those reviews keep you from stopping in, the food is worth a little confusion while this restaurant works out its kinks. To sum it up we had a wonderful experience here and will definitely be back again. Thank you!

UPDATE: We gave it another shot on a Sunday afternoon, and had a much better experience. The menu has better clarified which entrees contain shellfish, which entrees can be vegetarian, etc. The service was quick and thorough. I had the tuna poke, which was excellent, and my girlfriend had a vegetarian ramen that was easily the best weve had in Fort Worth. A completely different experience from the one listed below. Great job Oni! ~~~~~ Original Review: Had pretty high hopes after reading the reviews, especially after being repeatedly disappointed with the locations previous restaurant, Kin Kin. But first, the positive. Decent happy hour with great edamame and decent cheap sake. The main bowls of ramen are a dollar or so cheaper. There are a few vegetarian and pescatarian options. The vegetarian was good. Much more flavorful than their signature miso. Granted, I think they messed up my order and gave me the light ramen with no added spice; however, our ticket still contained the more expensive signature dish. The real issue is that the meal they gave me had shellfish in it, and Im violently allergic to shellfish. The meal I ordered had no mention of shellfish or seafood in the description and they did not ask about dietary restrictions when we were ordering. When we asked and they confirmed, I explained my situation. The waitress apologized quickly and... that was it. No comped meal or replacement. No apology from a manager or chef. Having worked on the other side of the dining experience, I decided it wasnt worth making a scene over what could have been a medical emergency. But I will not be eating at this establishment again. And Im sure anyone who orders whatever I had probably wont be thrilled, regardless of their dietary needs.
