Great BBQ, the reviewer above stated there was hardly any smoke ring and there were no onions and such texans are use to. There are those trimmings on the counter behind you as you stand at the cashier. Ive been here a handful of times(3-5) and could only say the lack of smoke ring was probably a chance occurrence, theres always plenty of smoke ring. The problems here are the lets face it completely ridiculous door situation. The door to the line is always in battle with everyone else to get in and out as the front door is shut with a sign that says use other door. People entering and exiting and tide sitting on the patio are in constant battle. Also as youre standing in line for the great food they may run out of many things but you wont know it until you wait 10-15 minutes to make the corner inside and read the menu. Many angry people left as I stood in line. For god sakes put a sign out front and spare folks the walk from the car down the street and wait in line. I usually mix 1/2 and 1/2 sweet and unsweetened tea but the sweet tea tastes EXACTLY like unsweetened, exactly. You can give the Pepsi challenge if youd like. This last time I visited all the above happened on top of the ice machine being broken or unfilled with a tiny ice chest on the counter to dip a questionably clean scoop into. If they would get it together on the things that frustrate people the most it would be a great BBQ place. Cant blame them for a long line, its great BBQ. Hopefully a larger place is in store for them. The food is really good and I would say the sausage stands out and heim is where you would go to get sausage that doesnt seem like everyone elses.

In short, Heim Barbecue delivers solid BBQ -- its good food, no doubt. Compared to its peers, though, Heim struggles to stand out in a positive way. Some of my favorites in the DFW BBQ scene, TEN50 in Richardson and Hard Eight in Roanoke, both dish out a more solid plate of lip smacking BBQ. During peak hours the wait (45 mins to an hour) is similar to what Im used to at the Woodshed in Fort Worth, except the atmosphere while you wait is lacking. Heims cramped single room simply cant compare to the Woodsheds live music, wide-open waterside patio with bar, AND everyone with their dogs on display... I do, however, appreciate the Magnolia quirkiness of their modular menu, which features food items listed onto pieces of butcher paper taped to the wall behind the counter. As items run out -- and they *do* run out -- the menu shrinks, limiting your choices until there are often only 3 or 4 things left to pick from. While I find this fun, others might find this "feature" annoying. The food itself is good, but I feel overpriced for what you get. A single pork rib and one slice of brisket make up a two-meat combo. Meat U Anywhere in Grapevine, for example, will stuff you to the gills with BBQ while keeping your wallet intact. Heim also serves some of the largest sides youll ever see at a BBQ joint, which I think is kind of silly as it only further emphasizes how small the meat portion is... All that said, the brisket is fantastic, the sausages pack a kick, and their ribs are pretty good too.

Great Q, Great atmosphere, and nice bar to serve up your favorite adult beverages while you enjoy some of the best BBQ and sides anywhere. The Brisket is smoked just right, with a nice bark, and not too strong. Nice and juicy, portions are fatty but not wasted. Tender, with just the right amount of bite, as is the pulled pork. The ribs are done well, tender and sweet and smokey, without being over or under done, and the house Pepper Sausage has a nice snap and meaty texture. The Sauce is a thick brown sugar base, nothing special. The Potato Salad would make your grandmother close up her kitchen, while the beans are a full meal all by themselves, full of well cooked pintos, nice broth, onions, peppers, various smoked meats, and a full flavor profile. That tater salad is chock full of bacon bits and more yumminess. DONTT FORGET THE BACON BURNT ENDS! These little wonders of carnivore candy are the jewel in the crown of your meal. being smoked bacon chunks that have been rehydrated and smoked in a sweet brine that after one taste, you will be dreaming about it for days later. Have a local brew or signature whiskey with the meal, and the real deal banana pudding for desert.

The food was good. The busboy was attentive and caring. The layout of the restaurant is terrible. The line stretches out the door and you have to wait in the heat to get in. The line was extremely slow. They had two registers, but only one was open and the place was packed. Several people were complaining about how slow it was. It is 96 degrees today and I waited in the hot sun in outside area under the sun with no awning or canopy or outdoor cooling fans. They dont take care of the customers outside in the heat. There was a water cooler with no cups. the tables did not have any shade. Worst of all the open door lets the flies in. Flies were every where. I was constantly shooing them off my food and my drink. The other problem is that they run out of food. They ran out of french fries at 4:30 in the afternoon. Overall, we wanted to make it a special event for my elderly father in law. I came early, but due to the layout, they could not join us because they could not jump the line and everyone was grumpy to let him and my elderly mom join us. There are a lot of great TX barbecue places in DFW without such a hassle and poor care for customers!

I needed to write this review to vouch for the food quality and the quality of the owners. We just got our food here tonight and they were hosting a private even so the regular seating was closed but they had a to-go window open in back until they sold out (which happens daily because the food here is so incredible...so plan ahead!). Anyway, we were given the last spot in line and just as they were putting up the sold out sign another gentlemen who had driven a good distance from out of town to try the place walked up. My buddy and I offered to give him our spot since we come here frequently and the owner of the restaurant (Emma Heim) put together a plate for for him and even offered to pay for our meals since there computers were shut down! Ive never been treated so well at a restaurant and will be a customer for life because of the food and people my money will be going to. CANT RECOMMEND ENOUGH! BTW the food is exquisite. Especially the fatty brisket, sausage, mac n cheese, and the bacon ends. Go here. Youre welcome.

Heim is one of those restaurants you dont want to tell people about so you can keep it all to yourself. This restaurant lifts the standard for BBQ restaurants in DFW. Heim has accomplished bringing that hip vibe you usually only get in boutique LA or NY restaurants, while keeping prices reasonable and creating award worthy BBQ. The food was amazing. Personally, I am a brisket snob and after eating at Heim I dont think I can eat brisket anywhere else without being disappointed. Their twice baked potato salad had a different and wonderful texture/flavor. Then the comfort-food flavor of their Mac-n-cheese, lets you feel like a kid again and not an adult cheating on your diet. I would recommend Heim to anyone and everyone. Be sure to get there early because once that days bbq is gone, its gone. You cant rush greatness and I appreciate their dedication to quality and not the almighty dollar. Keep it up Heim Barbecue!
