We had just finished a day of wine tasting and were looking for a place with a patio for our dog. My wife found this place and we are glad she did! While they werent really prepared to serve anyone on the outside patio due to the recent storms, they immediately went to work and set up a table next to the fire pit and lit the fire for us. The service really went above and beyond since we were the only people outside, yet the waiter checked in on us regularly. They even brought out a water bowl for our dog. We started off with a Kentucky Mule and an Orange Fashion to sit by the fire. Both cocktails were very good and presented well. We split an order of the Artichoke which is grilled and it was great. The artichoke was cooked perfectly so that we were able to eat almost all of the leaves entirely. The nice char on the artichoke combined with the seasoning really put it over the top. For our entrees we ordered the Hoisin & Ginger Glazed Duck Breast and the Chicken Fried Steak. The waiter said they usually prepare the duck as medium rare and that often a lot of people feel it is too rare, well we stuck with their preparation of medium rare. The duck was just a bit pink in the middle of the breast, but so very tender. The hoisin ginger sauce is a really nice touch, just a bit of sweetness with a nice ginger bite. Much better than the traditional orange sauce you normally see with duck. The mashed potatoes were creamy and the green beans were cooked and seasoned just right. The chicken fried steak was great, I was very impressed by it. This is really a big step up from what you find at your traditional diner. The meat of course was tender, the breading was light and crispy and has some great seasoning in it. The gravy they covered the steak made me think of a bacon and potato chowder, was delicious and not too heavy. I got scalloped potatoes for my side and was pleasantly surprised by the presentation of it. I wasnt expecting them to look like a slice of lasagna, but it sure did! The potatoes were sliced thinly and layered with cheese. It was great and easy to eat compared to how I usually see scalloped potatoes. Overall we were very impressed with this restaurant and the experience. To have the staff take such good care of us like that was great. I have to say well probably be back!

Finally a decent dinner place in Atascadero... fresh veggies, quality meats and fish, well-designed preparation, an eclectic wine list, all wrapped in an unpretentious hole-in-the-wall atmosphere that makes you forget its tucked in a strip mall. We had seared Ahi to start... a standard in many places, but prepared here with a slight twist that could have demanded seconds. Dinner was for me a 12oz NY, trimmed with the right amount of fat, with fresh mashed potatos, and with marvelous grilled summer squash and whole carrots. My better half had the bacon-wrapped scallops with Jasmine rice and saute asparagus... no fishy taste here. Each entree comes with a choice of two salads or soup - we chose the Caesar, which was substantial and very fresh! The service is prompt and courteous, with no rushing or determined upselling. If I had to quibble, the bread at dinner seemed stale (of course it might have been French baguette), and like any time you go to a restaurant for the first time, you get to know the how the house determines R, MR, M, MW, W etc.... they are a grill on the rare side. Still, a very pleasurable dining experience on the patio, and having been here in years past when it was a Mexican restaurant, the owners have done an amazing job in transforming a dull square into an excellent eatery. As we come down here often, we will be back. Thanks for being brave and opening an excellent eatery in the challenging times.

Had Sunday breakfast there my first visit a while back, it was good, although very dark inside. Returned to try lunch today and was not impressed. It was a nice day and their outside seating was one of the reasons we decided on lunch there. So when hostess started seating us inside where it was dark, we asked if we could eat outside, she seemed unhappy with our request and stated it was hot out. When we were served drinking water, it was cloudy then wierd particles of some undetermined substance settled at the bottom. When we politely pointed it out to waitress, she said it was from the lemon slice ... trust me, thats not what it was and she didnt offer a solution of any kind. When we asked for menu recommendations and then paused before making our selection, she impatiently stated shed be back. When she asked if I was done so she could clear my plate, she seriously commented she wanted to make sure I was done so I wouldnt bite her hand off, this was a strange comment since despite the poor service, dirty water, and so-so yet pricey food, we had been friendly and polite. There was also a split plate fee, so a so-so sandwich that we shared, no drinks, no sides, etc, our bill was $16 without a tip. Very disappointed with todays food and service, doubtful that well ever return.

I needed to find an affordable restaurant for a rehearsal dinner in Atascadero. I had a referral to the Guest House so called and talked to Trevor. He was most helpful and offered me a menu that was in my budget. I can not tell you how pleased we were with the restuarant, staff, food, appetizers, beverages and desserts. Trevor had the patio set up with 2 long tables to accommodate our group of 35 and the evening was perfect. We had sweet potato fries and jalapeno rings to start off with and they were served piping hot with a delicious dip. I lost count of how many platters of them were served. The baby back ribs, herb and cream cheese chicken and veggie pasta were great choices that everyone enjoyed and the servings were quite large. We will never drive to the Central Coast or Northern California again without planning a stop at the Guest House for lunch or dinner. I highly recommend it!

Went here on Valentines night and had a blast, our waitress was amazing, timed bringing out our food, and drinks perfectly and was an all around great person. We have been here before and the place never disappoints in their food, drink, or service. The pictures include their Blueberry Lemonade (for adults), Old Fashioned, Flourless chocolate cake, and the Hoisin & Ginger Duck with Garlic mashed potatoes - so delicious. Though I stole a couple bites of my husbands prime rib, oh man that was delicious!

Very slow service and food is overpriced. The staff is nice but it was a long period of time between visits and we did not receive our meal in time to enjoy during a 60 minute lunch break. The restaurant was not even at capacity. I would be willing to try the restaurant again out of fairness for being busier than expected on a Monday, as was explained by our server when questioning why there was a significant delay in our food being delivered.
