My two-year-old daughter has Celiac Disease, and since its impossible to tell a two-year-old that she cant eat the same things as mommy, daddy, and big sister we all choose to eat gluten free. We had seen AJ Spurs on a GF dining list and called ahead to inquire. We were assured there was a gluten free menu, and all the proper steps were taken to avoid cross contamination. When we arrived it took quite some time to track down the gluten free menu, which was pretty sparse, but we figured it probably would be. My wife and I ordered BBQ chicken breasts and a bun less cheeseburger for the kids to share. The normal AJ Spurs menu comes with the following sides. Soup with fixins, Salad, AJ Spuds, Rice Pilaf, Garlic Bread, and a root beer float. ON the GF menu they offer a salad with no croutons and oil and vinegar, and a baked potato. We asked if we could get steamed veggies for the kids, and the server said yes. We asked if we could have veggies and a baked potato for us and were told they would have to charge us extra for the veggies. Pretty lame considering the normal menu gets 5 things on the side, but oh well. The food came, we ate it. The meat was okay, the potato was overcooked. Then the bill came and we discovered that we had been charged the full menu price for out partial meals and extra for the kids veggies (The GF menu had no prices listed). My wife complained to the manager on duty who told her that we should have been charged for the baked potatoes too, since thats a "non-standard item". He grumbled a little bit, made a small adjustment to the bill, threw it down on the counter and walked away rudely. Not only does AJ Spurs expect people with special dietary needs to pay more money for less food they the manager treated my wife rudely when she tried to raise a valid point. I have emailed the AJ Spurs Corporate office and the local restaurant with my issues and have received no response after 48 hours.

The decor is entertaining - done up like an old-style saloon and with animal heads hanging from just about every available wall space. Plenty of character and the kids had a fun time exploring. The food however, was disappointing. Every meal comes with their special soup with beans and salsa, along with salad, rice, potatoes, garlic bread, and a root beer float. There arent any options on the menu to avoid all these extras, and it was just too much food! The soup was probably the highlight. Both the steaks and ribs, while supposedly specialties, were really disappointing, and poorly cooked - we didnt even come close to finishing them. Overall, entertaining atmosphere but I wouldnt go back.

Ein Erlebnis! Außergewöhnliches Ambiente, sehr guter Service. Essen (Rib-Eye-Steak) war köstlich. Mein Fehler war, zusätzlich noch eine Beilage zu bestellen, es gehört immer eine Suppe, ein Salat, ein Dessert und eine Beilage von Haus aus dazu. Die meisten, die das Restaurant verlassen haben, hatten sich was einpacken lassen. Unbedingt hingehen!

Great food, substandard service. Our meal was a 2.5 hour affair. At one point I asked the server for an honest estimate of our wait so I could take another guest to their vehicle, I just wanted to end the experience without incidence. She told me 5 minutes and it took 25 minutes more to get our meals. From our reservation time to meals on the table was 1:45. Even with the high quality food the wait was excessive. Lastly our table was not cleared prior to dessert, just a pet peeve of mine. Unless youre vacationing to this restaurant, I would not invest the time.

Ive been to both the Templeton and Grover Beach locations several times and my review is identically positive: Yep! Just like everyone else has said: great food, excellent service, bountiful portions, super cool western Kitch atmosphere! Just and all around great family steak house! Perfect for little kids too with their "treasure chest" of toys. If youre a carnivor, then this is another Central Coast "must experience" on the restaurant list. Go with an empty stomach. Also one of the few places that offers, AND does a "GREAT" job on beef ribs :-)

Without swearing, OMFG!! The best Prime Rib ever. Prepare to not being able to walk out, IF you can eat it. Google has done an injustice, on my way to a Google suggested place and saw them. Turned around and WOW!!! Busy, but service welcoming and excellent, good drinks, the best food. I am a long way from home(20 hours or better) I would go out of my way to come here again. Take the turn!! Live music the night I was here. Totally enjoyable, and I am not a huge fan of background noise. LOVE, LOVE LOVE!!!!

Have been eating g at AJ S FOR YEARS. AT ALL THE LOCATIONS. FAVORITE. TEMPLTON. TO NITE THINGS ARE DIFFERENT GROVER BEACH . SALSA WAS HOT LIKE NEVER BEFORE. SALAD WAS MOSTLY CARROTS.AND CRUTONS. VERY LITTLE LETTUCE. NO MEAT TO SPEAK OF IN THE SOUP.. ORDERED THE 14 OZ RIB EYE. MED RARE. TO RARE. CAME out well chared. Over powered the flavor of the steak. Disappointed. . We be driven 80 miles each way to eat at A j. Not worth the drive. s

i was staying next door at the Holiday Inn express and went over for a beer. The bar revels in campy awesomeness. Red velvet on the wall is always a good sign. Good beer selection (i didnt say wide) too... they had some kind of mixed drink plastic shaker thing that is apparently pretty popular. I didnt get to try it, but it looked promising. The bar overlooks the PCH... though you cant see the ocean, the traffic can be hypnotizing. Much fun.

Havent been here in a while and was super surprised at how horrible the food was. I even had to ask if it was under new ownership. My husbands ribs looked broiled with BBQ sauce, the salad was old, soup was cold my daughter innocently made the comparison to the smell and taste of her elementary school cafeteria food. Very disappointing. On the bright side, the root beer float was good! Saddly we wont be going back.

Rewelacyjne jedzenie, szaleństwo na talerzu... Cala ameryka w jedynym daniu. Do tego bardzo dobra przystawka w formie zupy. Mozna przyczepić sie do ceny ( dwu daniowy obiad 90 $ ) ale.. Warto

Not so good. The staff is awful. They seated me at a banquet with a hole the size of a land mine in it and stuffing coming out! I questioned that and the young girl just shrugged. Like sit there or dont. So I didnt. I did get a look at the prices however and at those prices they could afford repairs. Yes, lots of empty seats. Yes those did not need repair. Yes I was nicely dressed. No I will never go back.

Decor was fun and unique. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The meal was no excitement for the cost. I had a large Filet and ordered it Medium rare. It was well done around the edges and raw in the middle. My girlfriend ordered the NY medium well and it was well done and very tough Not worth the cost at all. The stew however was very good that they brought out just after being seated.
