so I have ordered from here before and the food is always good but this time we had a horrible experience. so first off we call and put in are order no one can speak English or really even understand it. so after we get the order situated we wanted to pay with a credit card. she tells us how long its going to be and we hang up. well 15 minutes later they call and say are card was denied, so we simply ask them to try it again they really didnt want to do it and started asking if we could pay cash. we said we really would rather pay with a card. so after arguing with the lady she gives the phone to someone else and we explained to the guy we have money in our account and we thought maybe the card was entered incorrectly. but again they said it was denied (I really dont think they even tried again). so we tell him ok we can pay in cash. so we scrounge up all the cash we have left to pay for the order, we had exact change. so finally the order gets there and we exchange money for food and start to pull everything out to eat when we hear the door bell ring again. which we thought was a little weird cause I knew I had the exact amount for the order. so as I open the door the guy says this does not have the tip included you are supposed to give me 3 to 5 dollars for a tip, we explained if the card had been run properly we could have tipped him but we had no more cash. so he sat at are door for literally 3 minutes telling us he did his job and we should be tipping him. I have been in delivery before and I know that it is totally unacceptable to go back and ask for a tip. I just thought that was very rude and it ruined my experience. I will never order from here again

Pretty good Sichuan food, at least by the standards of Austin. Its in the same league as the much more hyped A+A or Asia Cafe. Ive only had the authentic Sichuan dishes here, and havent tried any of the American-Chinese food here. Fish Fillet with Fiery Sauce (水煮鱼片) ($12.95): A pretty decent rendition of the classic Sichuan dish made up of fish and mixed vegetables submerged in a fiery oil sauce. Like most renditions in the USA, this one is boneless fish fillets. Spicy and Tangy Cold Beef Slice (夫妻肺片) ($10.95): Thin-sliced beef and tendon in a spicy Sichuan sauce. Not bad, though a bit on the pricey side for an appetizer and an item that doesnt come with rice. Deep Fried Chicken w/ Roasted Chili (重庆辣子鸡) ($10.95): I didnt like this one as much, but its still pretty good for what it is. I generally prefer the rendition of 重庆辣子鸡 that isnt deep-fried. However, when not comparing it to other renditions, but instead taking it on its own merits as a dish of spicy fried chicken, if this were at KFC, its probably all I would ever order.

As long as you stuck to Szechuan dishes, this place was the only remotely authentic Szechuan place in Austin. We used to go there at least once per week. We were out of town for about 3 months and returned here in early Feb. It appears that ownership and/or management may have changed at some point during our absence. The chef/cook definitely has changed. The complex Szechuan flavors have been replaced with the obligatory-Americanized flavors that you find all over town. The dishes are now spicy for the sake of spicy with no depth of flavor and no variation from dish to dish. The same chili sauce is being used in all the dishes we ordered (every dish is masked with a slightly bell-peppery taste that is indicative of a particular brand of chili sauce), rather than the complex blend of very specific mouth-numbing peppercorns, oils, fried chilis, dried peppers, etc that is the hallmark of Szechuan cuisine. Without this place, we will now need to drive to Dallas or Houston to get a Szechuan fix. What a bummer.

This is not your typical westernized Chinese restaurant that its generic name may lead you to believe. While you can order a plate of General Tsos or Orange Chicken, youll also find some pork intestine and cumin lamb on that same menu. The food isnt as spicy as one would think of traditional Szechuan cuisine, but they do seem to put chilis in every dish. I ordered their 3 mushroom stir fry and it came with whole chilis in the dish, albeit I couldnt really taste any spiciness from it. Their cumin lamb was the best thing I tried, but it certainly had a heavier salt flavor than cumin. Oh and it was spicy as well, but a more of a slow burn that compounds the more bites you take. Overall a decent Chinese restaurant with good flavors and a fast serving staff. Would recommend this to anyone looking to peer a little more into Chinese cuisine.

Very excited to try this new restaurant as it had a significant favorable write up in local magazine. Ordered Sesame Beef and a duck dish. Beef was not beef--it was like eating paper covered with sweet syrup. I was starving, so I tried. Duck came (supposedly not a spicy dish), and it had a very bad taste. Plus while the meat wasnt hot spicy, the sauce it was soaking in plus the veggies were extremely hot. Never asked by the one waitress working about the food. She spoke no Englich so there was no communication about food quality at all. So we took the "to go" boxes she handed us, loaded them up and latter at home threw them away. Would have loved to recommend this small business, but I honestly cant. This food with the tip was about $30.00. Not expensive but not even worth a dollar.

Szechuan House is my favorite Chinese place in my near-neighborhood (I live in 78758). I usually get the shredded pork and tofu. I like their soups. The egg rolls are a little too small in my opinion. I like the staff, they are nice. I havent tried delivery -- they do offer that service though. Comparisons: I havent tried Din Ho on 183, and I also like Asia Cafe up on Spicewood and Dr. Wok on Anderson Mill. I think the prices are a little better at Szechuan House than Sea Dragon on 183 and the food is better at Szechuan than at China House (not a fan). Given the local alternatives I am fairly confident in recommending Szechuan House.

This is a family run take-out restaurant also catering to dine-in customers. There are TV monitors playing playing soccer highlights in loop. The menu is exhaustive. The food is by and large reasonably well prepared and presented but the steamed foods take longer to arrive. When it comes to taste and flavor, they do a good job. It is authentic. However, if you are an Asian person or someone who lives in Asia used to routinely eating great Chinese food, you may be a touch disappointed. The servings are large and generous and pricing is reasonable. The family that runs the place are friendly and keen to please.

This place has great food, theyve always been prompt with delivery and they are always very nice on the phone. Looking at the reviews on here saying "They dont understand English" almost sounds racist at this point. Despite their heavy accents, they have always understood me perfectly, I just know what I want and I speak clearly. Perhaps customers dont understand THEM, so they automatically blame the person with the non-American accent? Besides, youre ordering from a Chinese restaurant run by Chinese people, what do you expect? Its good authentic food at a decent price. I definitely recommend this place.
