I first discovered this place my freshman year of college. I recently returned when a friend and I were dying to go to a sushi happy hour, and I was unimpressed by recent visits to my ex-favorite sushi restaurants. All of my favorite downtown sushi destinations just arent as good as they used to be, so we decided to venture out a bit farther to Mikado. Thats when I remembered how attractive and enjoyable Ben is. Ben isnt just any regular guy, nuh uh. Hes beautiful - he has the figure of an Olympic athlete, has so many layers to his personality, and he just understands what I really want and what Im looking for. He never fails me. He has a hard exterior, but hes such a great person inside. And ladies, hes pretty endowed. Trust me. Sometimes I cant even fit that sushi roll into my mouth. That Bens Roll was delicious. Im not a hundred percent sure what is in it exactly, but it has all of the goodies that you could ever want - avocado, various sauces, etc. When something is that good, it doesnt even matter whats inside of it. Ill take it. Its a bit pricey (~$18), and not on special during HH, but its so worth it. Its big enough for two people to share, and Ive never had anything else like it. What I love most about Mikado is the quality of their fish - you can tell its fresh. I used to frequent Imperia, but Ive just noticed the quality of the sushi is not as good as it used to be. This is one thing I love that Mikado hasnt skimped on, even during HH. Other than the Bens Roll, Id also recommend the Chiroshis Fire and Hottie Susan, both of which are really good. They also have the standard options of Spicy Tuna, Avocado Roll, etc. if you dont want to be too adventurous. The place is nice, service is good, and if anything isnt up to par (which is always is), Ben always makes up for it later :)

This is a review that I would like management to see. I will be emailing a copy to the management as well. This restaurant has the best customer service Ive ever seen in my life. Ive been to upscale restaurants where you pay over $100 per person and the customer service is attentive, but you get the feeling that they are only doing this because you are paying a premium. Not so at Mikado Ryotei. Id like to take this opportunity to recognize two servers, Kat and her Japanese co-worker. Kat was our server, you could immediately tell the sincerity and sincere warmth when we sat down in the restaurant. As she approached our table to take our drink orders, she was especially attentive that my mother was feeling cold, so she offered to bring my mom some hot water. My step father was being somewhat obnoxious and rude, and she took it in stride as well. Throughout the meal, she didnt just conduct the cursory check-in to see if "things were okay", but she engaged in warm conversation with my family. When I mentioned that I was studying Japanese, she brought over her co-worker (sorry, I dont remember her name!) to practice with me since the restaurant was not too crowded, all the while ensuring that her other tables were properly cared for as well. Honestly, I have never seen such exceptional customer service at a restaurant. Kat and her co-worker made us feel so welcome. She is management material - she represents the restaurant very well. ありがとうございました!!

They surely welcome you into their restaurant, but after that there’s no telling. I made clear I didn’t know much about Japanese food and was hungry and they couldn’t care less about explaining or describing their food. The first thing they gave me was a bunch of KentukyFriedChicken-type food. I had to remove all that fat from the few veggies and shrimps inside. Next I ordered a sushi roll that I had seen from the next table, I made clear I wanted the same as they served to that table. However, they served me plain RAW meat. No, no, it was not a ROLL, it was RAW, raw meat. They call it sashimi. The waitress didn’t give a crap on asking well what I wanted by asking me if I wanted raw meat, even if she knew I was not familiar with their food. The final bill was almost $60, a huge waste.

We had a birthday party of 7, all sit at the Sushi Bar on a Saturday night. We were seated right away and all treated like VIPs. They made us special drinks, "Summer Bubbles" to order from a website on one of our phones. The Sushi and drinks were all great. Every one was ordering Sushi rolls and drinks for an hour and a half. I was at the end of the row, so I had no idea what this was all going to cost. I told them to add a 20% tip to the bill and gave the owner my credit card, without seeing it, as I was so pleased with the experience (and the beers)... expecting as much as a $500 bill... but it turned out to be around $190 and with the tip $225. I think the owner gave us a lot of things for free... Birthday ice cream cake too. We will be back. Get the Secret Garden Rolls.

**This Review is only on the service and the tempura ice cream** I was on a craving for Tempura Ice Cream so I went around the city trying different places for their tempura ice cream. I came here because it was close to my house, but I wasnt too impressed with it. It tasted very freezer burned to me. The service was not that great. I told them all I was getting was dessert, I like to let the waiter know up front so they dont get mad Im not ordering a ton of stuff. She never came back after I got my order. I had to flag someone down to get my check. That took forever to even get back. So I was a little disappointed with this place. I cant give it a 1 star because I dont know about the actual food.

Generous serving size. Easily 2 to 3 times what you would get at most restaurants for the same base price, in regards to sashimi and nigiri. Our chef, Robert... I think, was awesome. He made some great recommendations and all our orders were served promptly. He was so nice and even treated us to a few "freestyle" dishes at no charge. We got out of there @ $105 after absolutely stuffing our faces and giving a generous tip. Well be back to see him, and them again. Edit: The serving sizes are now smaller with the sashimi and nigiri.

I have been here once so far, but it will be my regular go-to place for Japanese food from now on. The ambience and atmosphere of the restaurant is very calm and inviting. The decoration is nice. We tried the crab shumai as appetizer which was fantastic (especially the dipping sauce that goes with it was great). We also tried a few of the specialty rolls includ. Mikado and Chorishis fire which were really good with nice presentations. The price of the rolls for the size was appropriate. The service was excellent.

I visited many Sushi establishments upon my transition to Austin from Atlanta, but this has become my Sushi destination. The serving staff treats you like royalty, and the owner makes you feel like his best friend. The food selection is versatile and the kitchen staff went out their way to introduce new and bold dishes to the patrons. The female bar keeper was top notch in her knowledge of the vast selection of spirits and mixed concoctions. I would recommend it to any one looking for a great dining experience!
