We had eaten here before and thought the food was pretty good. Wife and I decided to give it a try for my birthday on a Tuesday eve. After being ignored for at least 15 minutes we finally had our order taken. The waitress seemed to be disorientated right off the bat and generally unhappy about us being there. After another 20 minutes our appetizers showed up and I reminded the waitress that we still did not have our drinks. Another 10 minutes went by so I went to the bar myself to get our drinks. I ran into the waitress on the bar side and she assured me that the drinks were coming so I went to sit back down. Finally after another 10 minutes and appetizers eaten, another waiter brought our beverages. By now I had begun to realize that we were in for trouble. The original waitress now came back seeing that only my sons food had arrived after 45 minute wait. She came back with my daughters food and when I asked her where our entrees were she seemed confused. She left again and came back telling us that she forgot to put our order in. At this point I decided enough was enough and told her we just want to pay for what we did get and would like to leave without our food. I requested to talk to the manager but his cowardly response was to send her back out of the kitchen to tell us he was too busy. Wow! I finally did get him to come out of hiding and explained to him about what a disaster this had been. He just stared right through me and handed me the bill. By far the rudest dining experience I have ever experienced not to mention strange. Decent food but, overpriced in my opinion. Service so bad we were begging for the check to get out! (Literally) Obviously, we arent going back but I still am amazed at the level of rudeness we encountered at Beluga.

Ive eaten here several times, and always enjoyed it. The place has a classy atmosphere, reasonably good (though pricey) sushi and great non-sushi Japanese food; they do a good miso soup, classic gyoza, cute bento boxes, and solid basics (I really like the beef fried rice, which comes in an enormous portion with high quality meat). This isnt just a sushi place, so try some things from the regular menu. Ive never experienced any of the elaborate service problems of which others complain, and would caution readers to remember that angry, picky people are much more likely to write a bad review than satisfied customers are likely to write a good one. That said, it does sometimes feel like it takes a while for the waitperson to show up at first and another little while longer for the bill to arrive. Others have mentioned that some of the wait staff and managers are Russian, and this is a possible explanation: Ive traveled in several ex-Soviet countries and it always takes ages for the bill to arrive. When I asked about this, a friend explained that American waiters are extremely rude because they start badgering you with questions before you have the chance to pick up the menu, show up constantly to interrupt your dinner with annoying questions, and then bring the bill so fast that you feel hurried. Not sure I agree, but wouldnt you rather have a longer conversation with your dinner guests in a tasteful place with nice atmosphere than fast service at a dump?

I’ve eaten at sushi restaurants all over the US including San Francisco, San Diego, LA, Chicago and New York. I’ve also tried most of the sushi restaurants in the Austin area and have been enjoying sushi for about 20 years. I can tell you that the overpriced sushi at Beluga is less than decent. I’ve eaten at Beluga several times because I like to give a restaurant a fair chance. The last time I was there they were offering fatty tuna (toro) sashimi for $23 for 5 peieces. I was shocked by the price of this, but I love to try new types of tuna wherever I go and this specific tuna that they claimed was so valuable was supposedly from Hawaii. The tuna was tough and gritty and difficult to chew. In addition I ordered uni, only to discover they no longer serve it but for some reason decided to leave it on their menu. The waitress was very busy and was rarely available for drink refills and she had a poor attitude. I almost felt guilty asking for my order because of her unpleasant demeanor toward the fact that she had to take yet another order. I will not be eating here again. I have never felt so ripped off by any restaurant I’ve ever been to. Also the sushi chefs here are not trained in traditional sushi arts. If you want a really excellent sushi experience, try Osaka (one of the oldest sushi restaurants in Austin and one of the best IMO), Musashino or Tomo.

The rolls are creative and good. That said - I like my sushi restaurants - and specifically sushi chefs - to have a compulsive attention to cleanliness. The night I was there - the three sushi chefs looked like they were barely graduated from high school - and I watched one sushi chef lick his fingers three separate times as he was making spicy tuna filling (dipping his hands back into the filling after each time). It made me wonder what the standards were for the chefs when leaving the rest room. I asked for my check after that -- with my sushi dinner only half finished - the management was good enough to not charge me for my meal. I will usually frequent even an average sushi restaurants as long as they are handling their raw fish properly. Actions such as frequently wiping down the preparation space and knives, frequently washing hands - are all good signs. I saw none of this from the three young men behind the counter. This restaurant clearly does not train their chefs on the dangers of mis-handling raw fish - my question to all of you who ate here -- were you sick the next day?

Ive only eaten here once, and when I did it was excellent. Beluga offers a great selection of sushi and Japanese items, all freshly prepared to order with great flavor and freshness. My visit was for an all you can eat sushi menu that is offered on Saturday and Sunday. A menu card is provided for ordering, and then prepared fresh for your table. While individual sushi rolls here are a bit pricey, this is a few steps above your cheap sushi you find at most places. The all you can eat offer is a bargain if you can eat more than 3 rolls. What made the all you can eat even more attractive was the inclusion of miso soup, tonkatsu, galbi ribs, bulgogi beef, edemame, tempura and gyoza (pot stickers). I would recommend this place if you really love sushi, as everything is top quality. Just be prepared to spend $30-$40 a person regardless of the buffet or not.

Sushi in Round Rock!! Oh yea!! Found this great little hidden gem, this has so far been the best sushi that I have had since I have been in the Austin area. We love trying new places and this is a great place to go for any kind of Japanese food not just sushi. We have visited on 3 different occasions, which in itself speaks volumes. Its not often that we visit the same place too many times but we are adding this to our regular lineup because it is that good. Everything that we have ordered so far has been really good and totally fresh. The sushi variety is good enough to please any pallet. They have a variety of saki including our favorite Nigori unfiltered...yum! They do flights of saki as well. The drinks have so far been heavy handed and the staff have been spot on. This is the kind of place anyone can find something to eat and enjoy.
