We chose this restaurant because a friend and fellow doctor was visiting from California and wanted authentic Mexican food. So my wife, three kids and friend traveled over 50 miles to enjoy some authentic Mexican food. Although the restaurant boasted 5 star reviews for their food they neglected to mention there was a spoiled apple in the bunch of wait staff. My wife had 3 bites but didnt enjoy her chicken pecan so the waiter offered her something else but she declined. Never did we fall in the stereotype of wanting a free meal-we had no problems paying for the meal. My wife had our oldest daughter on her lap and they had her phone playing a game. A server by the name of Ryan walks by our table and said: Would you turn that down (in a very rude manner). Now for those of you who have 2 year olds-you know they have to be entertained. Either the iPad or phone is something we always have available for her to occupy her little mind and hands. We have NEVER been asked to turn down something that you could barely hear in a loud crowded restaurant. The couple sitting right next to us noticed our faces and what he had done. They said, "We cant even hear it and your kids are very well-behaved." The only reason I can fathom that RYAN decided upon us is because we were the only BLACKS in the restaurant. I did attempt to speak to RYAN, his response was, "Maam, what is your problem, did you not understand what I said?" This was said very loudly and in front of several tables and patrons. I spoke with the manager,Dace, and she assured me she would address the issue with him. In all fairness I should say that our actual waiter Joel was very pleasant. I left him a 25 dollar tip on a 36 dollar bill (prior to the incident). I am writing this review to caution other Blacks who may choose to dine at this establishment that RYAN is NOT a nice man. With that written my review will reflect the unabridged experience. We are only as strong as our weakest link.

Ive been coming to this restaurant for many years. Las Palomas is a perfectly reliable and delicious restaurant owned by a lovely family with high standards for providing top notch food and making sure that all customers are kept happy and meet their dietary needs while maintaining the authenticity of the food. Some reviews address the high cost of this place. Id hardly say its expensive, but dont expect this place to be your average Taco Bell. The atmosphere here is perfectly welcoming and is filled with true Mexican roots. I knew the man who painted all the pieces of art on the wall. I can tell you he was one of the most inspiring artists that I have had the pleasure to meet. This place has welcomed me with delicious foods and great service and I feel a strong confidence in saying, this restaurant provides truly amazing dishes and a very well trained, welcoming staff. TL;DR - This place is 10/10, I plan to get fat here

My girlfriend is from San Antonio and Mexican food here compared to SA just doesnt stack up. Its like night and day. Ive been on a mission to find her an authentic Mexican restaurant and I have found it with Las Palomas. We both went there. She ordered the Enchiladas with Mole, which is a childhood favorite of hers, and she was very impressed. According to her, it tops many of her favorite places in SA growing up. I had the Las Palomas combo plate, which was also excellent. We have since visited several other interior Mexican restaurants in the area, but they just dont come close. We will return many more times to Las Palomas and sample many more dishes from their menu. Its great food, nice atmosphere, and the prices arent too bad either. They email you specials when you fill out the guest card. For example, we got one for $10 off a $30 meal. Great place!

Las Palomas is more interior Mexican food with many well prepared dishes. Their Chile Relleno is absolutely the best in town, no blob of fried greasy batter here. It is a large poblano chile filled with a delicious ground beef, raisin, nut and spice mixture, and covered in a light tomato sauce. The Las Palomas Combination has many tastes to sample, mole, conchinita pibil with pickled onions, green enchilada, lovely steamed rice, and order the "a la charra" beans option. In addition to traditional enchiladas and chalupas - try the ceviche chalupas (tostados), Las Palomas offers many well prepared mains like Chipotle Salmon, fish or shrimp al mojo de ajo (garlic butter),Steak Chimichurri and other delicious options. We have been patronizing Las Palomas for over 25 yrs, deliciosa!

Where do I start?!? First we were supposed to get a text message when a table was ready, we waited over 45 minutes (were told the wait would be 15-20). Then we went to ask about it, everyone else had been seated except us. We got seated at a table right next to the door with no light, so we couldnt see the menu. Asked to be moved for better light, then after waiting quite a bit longer, a waiter with dirty dishes in his hands came up and asked if Id gotten approval to bring in my water bottle. I thought at first he was joking, I said we were walking, so he told me Id need to hide my water bottle! Then since wed waited so long we were ready to order and instead of taking our full order he only wanted our drink order. Needless to say we got up and left!

I have no idea how this place has a 4 star rating right now, this was the worst place Ive been to in Austin, maybe in the last 5 years. The heater wasnt on (it was 20 degrees today), we saw our waitress maybe 3 times in over an hour, the service was poor, the food was poor (Ive had better at a Jalisco), and the decor was basic. Nothing about this place was impressive. They even carbon copied my credit card because their POS didnt have internet. This place was distastefully unprofessional. They should close this place as soon as possible. I certainly wont be going back. If you do go here, dont get the "Soft Tacos", they are enchiladas without cheese. Way over priced for what it is.

If youre vegetarian, may as well stay away from this place. Even the waiter told me "the kitchen is not very creative" when I asked if they could make some of their dishes vegetarian. I have eaten here before and they only have 2 vegetarian dishes on their menu (and the rice is steamed with chicken stock we were told). Most good Mexican food restaurants have many more vegetarian dishes and most are happy to make many of their dishes vegetarian, but not this place. With very little effort they could fix this problem, but apparently they arent willing. By the way, I tried to rate it with 2 stars, but the program insisted on putting in 5, which it definitely is not.

Now at Las Palmas we are talking really good mexican food...no fast food or slop it on the plate and run it out to the table going to take place here. Service is top notch as was the quality of the food. The Fish Tacos were the best I have ever had. The top shelf margaritas actually were made from tequila that was on the top shelf with fresh ingredients lime jucie..no powder mix going to happen here. A very quiet, well run, restaurant that service great mexican food. What else can you ask for?? We will be back and will probably bring a posse with us next time to see if we can corral up a few more of the margaritas.
