For starters, I had my dog with me. They set me up with a table, an umbrella, a water bowl for my pup (which he tried to swim in), a mexican coca-cola, and chips with a divine fire roasted red sauce. The waiter & host David, was very prompt and was the only one working on the floor far as I could tell. Id like to note he was polite and attentive to my needs. upon receiving my "Al Pastor" sandwich(with the pineapples on the side instead of in the actual sandwich). When I bit into the sandwich my taste buds responded in harmonious approval in my menu choice. I had even requested some additional salsa they give with the chips. phenomenal combo, mexican meets italian. This meal made me miss my old home in the northeast as well as made me wanna take a trip to Mexico. This was a truly unprecedented experience for me. It was also the first time I have eaten an "Al Pastor." Special thanks to my host / waiter David, for making this such a wonderful, albeit unexpected, surprise.

We were wholly impressed. To be honest the place doesnt look like much and that is what I was expecting. But the food was very high quality and the service was very professional. Keep in mind this is not Tex Mex. I asked the owner as I left and he said it was Mexico City Style. I ate things I had never had before in all my 53 years in Austin. The salsa was warmed and not cold. The jalapenos we asked for on the side where chopped finely. Never had that before but its a great idea. When they refilled the iced tea we were drinking they didnt just pour new tea in the glass. They gave us a whole new glass with tea in it. The tortillas were freshly made. It was not expensive. Were going back at the end of the month. Do you see what I mean? All the little details added up to really good experience.

Im not sure why this place is so highly rated. It was okay. The waiter was very attentive but left us waiting a few times, the food took a long time to be served, they forgot the refried beans and my soup which was described as nicely spiced was the blandest soup I have ever tasted. I remedied the soup by pouring some salsa in it which actually made it nice, the waiter apologized for forgetting the beans and offered an extra taco which was very nice. One notable was the salsa for the chips was heated up and very good. I would eat here again because it is close to home.

I have been a fan of the family owned Don Mario Mexican Restaurant since their start years ago in a little strip mall on Hudson Bend Road. The old location did not do them justice fro their wonderful food that is served fresh hot and quickly. Their food and friendly service are simply outstanding. I love that their homemade salsa is served the traditional way, warmed. Their new location is modern, clean and comfortable. There is a big screen TV at the bar for your sport viewing pleasure. The margiritas are great and they have a nice collection of wines.

The shrimp enchiladas are amazing with black refried beans and Spanish rice. I love to ask for queso blanco "white Mexican cheese" and place it on top of my black refried beans. AMAZING!! The are not shy with the shrimp either, lots and lots of shrimp in every bite. Very friendly place/staff. My husband works across the street from this amazing gem , he is the one who introduced me to this lovely place. So sad that we live off of Mo-Pac/Parmer, or else I would personally come to this place more often. Keep up the good enchiladas!

Alambres were 7 out 10. Only thing that made them good was the salsa taquera or salsa borracha. Only good thing about this place was my creation of a coronarita. They dont have this drink in their menu, you have to order a large frozen margarita plus a corona and ask them to sink the beer in the big margarita but ohhh mannnn!!!! That is one of the best coronaritas i have had. It is powerful and the whole thing actually tastes like it has tequila. Dont have more than 2.

A lot more Mex than Tex, so this isnt the place to find your TexMex favorites (though there is some crossover). With that said, their menu has a lot of really great traditional offerings. Everything is very fresh, the staff and service is good, and its affordable. Lastly, you can pretty much guarantee that one of the owners (married couple) will be present if you visit, and theyre very friendly and will know you by name after a couple visits.

I have been a fan since the beginning. They have fresh, dynamic mexican flavors and all their employees can explain in detail the steps involved to make each dish. I find their soups are their star with amazingly flavored broths. Some dishes have challenged me and are just too hot and they gladly change it out for something I can eat. A real mex/mex kitchen with "Mamas" love coming from the kitchen.

Just called in a taco order and she repeated it to me correctly. I ordered six tacos and I only got five,my fault for not checking. On top of that there was only one taco in there that I actually ordered. The place was empty so I know I didnt get someone else order. we are the tacos anyway and they were nothing to write home about. DONT COME HERE!!! GO ACROSS THE STREET TO LOS PINOS

Mario & Leslie are awesome! I used to live in Mexico City and my mother is spanish so I know real authentic food. They are the real deal. When we first opened BackDraft Pizzeria we asked them about the food industry and they were both open about what it takes to run a place. We really appreciated the time they took with us and also the food is so fresh ! Best Mexican food in town !

My first visit, ordered chicken tacos. I agree that is boring but my lack of creatively is a topic for another day. Anyway, the tacos had great flavor. The salsa and chips - great as well. My only complaint is that my chicken tacos didnt have...much chicken. I felt like I was eating chicken flavored lettuce, cheese tortilla. Wheres the beef? Or this case..the chicken?

Hate to say it, but it was one of the more expensive and blandest meals Ive had. Maybe the chef was having an off day, but the chicken dish I got tasted like it had been frozen. Eating frozen chicken is not a big deal at all, so imagine how it had to be for me to bring it up. I was passing through looking for a lunch spot and was just kind of disappointed.

New to Austin and absolutely LOVE this place! I was introduced to it last week and have been back 4 times since! Best, most authentic Mex-Mex food that Ive found in Austin, and the prices are very reasonable! Too bad they are closed on Mondays, as it is Monday and I am craving their food! Oh well, guess I have to wait for tomorrow!
