This was my first time I have eaten at Curry Sultan and only my 2nd time eating Indian food. I was more than pleased. Its nice they ask how spicy you prefer on your food. I chose HOT and to me it wasnt too spicy as a matter of fact I added my own jalapeños with each bite. My previous experience eating Vindaloo was much more spicy. No, Im not trying to show my "machismo" by telling you Im able to tolerate such spicy food. I grew up within a 2 minute walk to the best chicken wing restaurant near Buffalo NY so I can tolerate very spicy food. I had an order of Samosas (meat) recommended by the person I spoke to on the phone and they were delicious! I dipped them in the Vindaloo/Chicken tikka red sauce. He also suggested the Chicken Tikki and I wanted the shrimp Vindaloo so I got both. The chicken was very moist practically falling apart (in a good way). The Shrimp Vindaloo taste really good, although there wasnt very many shrimp. As noted by other patrons the portions were on the small side compared to how much you pay for them. I was also surprised the delivery charge was $5 and I am only about 5 miles from the restaurant. I usually tip the delivery person very well, but due to the delivery charge I didnt give an additional tip to the driver, which made me feel bad. Im unable to drive so I have no choice other than delivery. Would I order the food again? Probably only every once in a while. Definitely not because of the quality of the food it was good, but because of the expense and size of the meals. My order was close to $40 and that was just for myself and Im not a huge eater. Yes I would recommend Curry Sultan to a friend, but I would let me know of my opinion and experience. I apologize for the length of my comment, however I think its best that others reading this get the whole picture.

Mediocre Indian food place with okay ambience but bland tasting food. Update 01/20/17: Despite the expected and woeful negative backlash by the owner/chef Russell, my original review stays. This is "NOT" how Indian food should taste. Research also says that the memory of a traumatic event stays with you forever. Also I unlike you chef Russell have been gifted with incredible memory. But thats fine, I forgive you for the lashing out at my honest opinion. In the words of the great Gandhi "The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong." I wanted to refrain from posting a word-ed review on the internet given the bullying tactics employed by the owner/chef Russel. Please read a few non 5 star reviews and youll know. But I have to post the reality here as I really dont care and that I visited this place over a year ago and he wouldnt hopefully remember and or say that I am from Pakistan! Lol! I am Indian and yes I have a pretty good general idea of how Indian food should taste. Here though the it seem to be lacking flavor unlike how Indian food usually is and seems to be made to suit the non-Indian palate. Which is fine if the underlying tendencies of Indian flavor is retained, but unfortunately that was missing. I feel bad for my Indian and non-Indian friends that they wont be able to enjoy Indian delicacies at this place but yet end up rating 4+ stars! I happened to ask the chef just out of curiosity, why a particular dish prepared with cream was red in color and he took it as an offense and gave me a reason which was out of this world. We ordered 3 dipping dishes and all of them were made from the same base, now this is an utter shame! I would only ever go here if I want a pseudo fix for Americanized Indian food. If only this part of Houston had a great Indian restaurant.

We just moved to Humble, and need a Indian spot now that we live so far away from the Mahatma Gandhi District. I gotta say that I am impressed with The Curry Sultan. The vegetable Samosas were perfect. They had just the right level of crispness to the exterior, and were fluffy on the inside. The white rice was cooked so that it was pillowy and wonderfully moist. The Butter Chicken is excellent. Its easy to screw it up and have no discernable difference from Tikka masala. Good job. They have Garlic and Paneer options for Naan, and me being who I am, I always combine the two. Just ask your server, and they will make you Garlic and Cheese Naan combined (Its amazing). The biriyani was not to my liking. It kinda lacked soul. Sure, the spices were there, they just werent in the right proportions. I wouldnt say the biriyani was bad, I think maybe Im used to a certain spice combo. Either way, I do not recommend the biriyani, it just didnt taste good. Lastly but not leastly, the tap water was great. They must use a quality filter on their water, because Humble water normally sucks. This was clean and very refreshing. For anybody that wants to argue the Biriyani point with me, you better come correct, because not only is my wife Indian, her dad owned an Indian restaurant for many years. I know Indian food. I kept the five stars out of respect to the Atmosphere (which is super pleasant), the Service (which was outstanding), and the awesomness of the other dishes sampled. Cheers, AX

An unforgettable experience! This intimate and cozy restaurant with remarkable home style Indian entrees is located in the Humble area. The service was great and everyone was polite and efficient with cleaning up the empty plates so more could come. This was our first visit however, my husband and I plan to make regular visits after today. We each began with a Mango Lassi (Classic Indian smoothie made with yogurt and mango), while we waited for our appetizers. We had Vegetable Pakora and Shrimp Pakora, they were both great. For our main dishes, we chose the Chicken Tikka Masala which is a classic dish cooked with ground spices in a tomato based sauce; Shrimp Biryani which is served on a bed of basmati rice, Lamb Kebabs made with ground Ozzie Lamb cooked with exotic spices and served with aromatic basmati rice and raita; and Garlic Naan. We ended our meal with Indian donuts called Gulab Jamun (Wonderful!). Each dish was freshly cooked and seasoned with its own spices and herbs which came out smelling savory and appetizing. The prices are extremely affordable and we look forward to returning again to experience the delights and decipher the mysterious enigmas that are wrapped in every dish in each of the regions of India. We had an unforgettable experience from entrance to exit.

Im editing my review down to 2 stars from the original 5 star review. I used to really like this place as the food was great and you really had to think hard to find any bad aspects of your time here. When they opened, you could tell Russell and his people took pride in their restaurant and the service and facilities were top notch. Fast-forward a year or so, weve been back several times. The food is still very good, so I really cant say anything negative about how much I like the food, but the service and cleanliness has taken a nosedive. They cant keep any good waiters because the repeat business here has obviously dropped off hard. The wait staff really can be terrible most of the time and if Russell isnt there then theres no real manager there keeping them in line. As far as the facilities go, this is what will keep me from coming back. They dont turn the A/C on until right before they open so if you show up early then the whole place is damp and warm and on my last trip I saw at least 4 roaches on the floor and walls. These arent the big German tree roaches either, these are the little guys that signal a bigger infestation. The food is good, but not enough to get more of my money.
