Ive tried Indian food all across the country. From New York City to L.A.. Ive also spent over a week in New Delhi, India and was tied to Indian food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In saying that, I am by no means an expert on Indian food. Its not because I dont like it, or have not experience with it...I just find it entirely to spicy. It often has a tendency to upset my stomach, also. So, why do I keep trying it? My Wife loves it. Thus, its become one of those things she loves and I keep trying to love over and over again. Perhaps, someday hoping Ill find that one Indian Restaurant that sets off that food lovers light bulb in my brain. The service wasnt bad...it was just kind of non-existent. I personally found it rather cold and not inviting. This could be because of lack of service and/or the seemingly cold demeanor of the staff. I tell you what...even if you take a table and a bare, blank square room thats void of any character, or esthetics...if you have a great waiter...whos inviting...it can turn that cold dark square room into a place to relax with friends and/or a loved on to have a romantic dinner. In the Hyderabad House I did not feel welcomed, and I know this sounds crazy but I actually felt that I was being looked down upon if, and when, I appeared to not like a certain dish I was trying. Maybe Im over thinking it, but at the end of the day...you feel the way you feel. As for a critique of the food, I really cant have much of an opinion about it. Everything I tried, and I mean everything I tried, was just to spicy. (And we tried many, many dishes.) So who can I turn to that has a good and viable opinion in regards to taste and quality of Memphis Indian Fair? My Wife. She loves Indian food, and she loves a spicy eclectic menu. Shes also a very open minded connoisseur of all dinning and is well traveled. Her overall impression, of the Hyderabad House, was average. Not bad. Not good. Just overall not anything to write home about. So, keeping in mind the following variables: average food, non-existent service and a cold, non-inviting atmosphere (not coming here with colleagues to wind down after work and/or taking my Wife on a festive romantic dinner). Id suggest the following to any food adventures out there...next time youre looking for an Indian establishment to flip on that food lovers light bulb...try searching the rest of the Memphis Area before going to the Hyderabad House. They may have the bulb, but they dont have the switch.

Ordered Chicken Dum Biryani for takeout and Chicken was uncooked (all pink from the inside) threw it away obviously since I did not want to go to the ER. The food is generally flavorful and has a strong influence from southern parts of india so do not expect the north indian dishes to be north indian! I have my reservations regarding the cleanliness and hygiene inside the kitchen but its Memphis and theres barely any good Indian restaurants around so you have to live with whats available! Also, the servers are very impatient/borderline mannerless, dont serve/take orders with a smile and make you feel like youre doing them a favor by ordering food! Bottomline is the food is flavorful and reasonable compared to other locations but dont have high expectations! Thats my two cents!

I have had food from this restaurant a number of times, as dine in, takeout and even went to their dosa night. The food is at best mediocre in taste and quality, the quantity is scarce especially if you takeout. Last time I did a takeout, there was no salt in the chicken butter masala, the chicken pieces were not fully cooked, and the butter naan had the elasticity of a rubber. Had to throw away after a bite. There is also a lot of room for improvement in the behavior of the waiters and waitress. This restaurant is in business only due to the pathetic standard of Indian food in/around Memphis; it would run out of business within a week anywhere in India.

I have been to this restaurant and the quality of food sucks. I ordered lunch special the biryani sucked donkeys b**ls anyway also the quantity of the meat was not enough and it comes with other unnecessary items which you dont like to eat. I never wrote a review before but after going there I wanna write this so it helps atleast one guy. If you want some quality and quantity food go somewhere else.....Last but not least this restaurant is a mess unfit to be called a restaurant rather it is more like a chinese fast food center.

Love the food! Be it the lunch buffet or the a-la carte menu, its all good. Ive been here several times and it is my first choice Indian restaurant in the Memphis area. Staff is great and they most certainly do a good job of handling the overflowing crowd. The authenticity of the food! Reminds me of my moms cooking, and the traditional South Indian dishes hit the mark perfectly.

first of all the service is very slow.second the quantity is very less when comapred with others. i ordered chicken 65 and that was the worst of all.the gongura chicken biryani is ok.the hyderabad Dum biryani lacks the punch and misses the so called DUM in that. I prefer SAI GRUHA over it, at least it carries the taste that these guys lack in.

We really enjoyed the biryani -- well spiced, fluffy rice and cooked to perfection. Polite staff & quick turnaround from order to food on the table. Atmosphere was simple and clean. Desserts were pretty fantastic, too. Highly recommended to folks with subcontinent heritage as well as ppl who simply enjoy good Indian food.

They a take lot of time to react to your order and food is not equivalent to the cost . Very bad service and ambiance is not good . Not my choice, instead of this place ppl can try Mayuri Indian cuisine(good ambiance ) ,Sai gruha ( cheap and tasty food) , curry bowl ( good variety of food ) .

There was an excellent variety of buffet food - much more, and much more authentic tasting than the typical Indian buffets Ive had around the country. It was worth driving extra for lunch. I will be back. The place is unassuming, just tucked into a small strip mall, but the food was fantastic.

This place is not so good as per commitment made, most of the times I have to wait for takeout after place the order over phone. The behaviour of the staff is also not as expected except a few. The quality of the food is not consistent, couple of times it was very bad.

Make sure to check your bill before paying. They charge you extra 10% if you are more than 4 people. If they charge you with that, speak to them and ask for justification. Absolutely no sense. Apart from that, food is good. -2 stars for charging extra in the bill.
