Food was solid, but not the best compared to other options in Madison; service was ATROCIOUS. Waited almost 30 minutes after sitting for our server to finally take our order, and then proceeded to wait. And wait. And wait for any sign of our food. Server came by at one time to offer my wife another chai "on the house for the wait," but neglected to ever ask at any point throughout the course of our experience if I was interested in having another beverage, despite my clearly empty glass sitting right at the edge of the table. 90 minutes after ordering, we finally saw our food (entrees delivered prior to appetizers...how long does it take to make an order of naan?); meanwhile, there were multiple tables of larger parties, who had been seated 30-40 minutes after us, who had already received and entirely finished their meals. The kitchen staff who brought our food over (I cannot stress enough how MIA our actual server was the entire night) seemed annoyed that we were there and didnt bother at all to discern which entree was for whom...basically just dropped them in the middle of the table and trudged off. They also forget one of the items we had ordered until I reminded them. After eating, we requested a couple of to-go boxes, only to see our server (after a rare appearance to even ask if we wanted them) disappear to hang out behind the bar and chat with a coworker; we ended up helping ourselves to the boxes so we could get moving, and only upon noticing this did she finally return to give us our check. We had high hopes after reading a number of good reviews; the decor was nice and the place smells excellent from the open kitchen setup as soon as you enter (its also fun to be able to see the chefs at work), but the service was so beyond poor that no quality of food would have been able to compensate. By comparison, the other server working was constantly bustling around from table to table, working her butt off and making sure her patrons were well taken care of, so perhaps we were simply seated in the dysfunctional section. Would not honestly recommend in light of such great Indian restaurants as Maharani.

The story of our visit to OM began with researching good Indian Restaurants in Madison area. We had planed a day at Wisconsin Dells and planned to have dinner in Madison. As i was researching on restaurants i read an article about a new Restaurant OM and then ended reading the article about the owners and how they started to open OM. So i called OM to inquire whether they can cater Jain food (Jain food(veg), being Jain one has restrictions on eating certain vegetables etc) for my wife and daughter. And to my surprise they were ready to make a dish or two for them. We rarely find an Indian restaurant accommodating to prepare Jain food us for. Hence i booked a table for our group. We arrived late then our schedule time but Nancy was very accommodating and helped us to settle down. I will say my family and our friends had excellent vegetarian (Jain as well) dinner at Om. All the dishes tasted excellent and kids enjoyed their food too. Complete with Lassi, papad and Chai (it was ok)... Suman, Nancy and Chef were very accommodating and managed to prepare for us JAIN dishes which my wife ordered off the menu rather then eating the one we had decided earlier. And as per my wife the food was very fresh and tasty.. Last I personally had to face some technical glitches with the payment system the restaurant had, but was ultimately resolved after few days. We found certain dishes to be expensive but was worth the experience.. So may find steep, but its ambiance, service along with the good food, give you the value for your money...I hope they service, quality and taste of food stays the same for days to come...... We enjoyed.. So Bon Apetit !!!!.

My boyfriend and I were looking for a new place to eat and we stumbled across this as we were driving! I love Indian food so I thought hey lets try it! When we walked in we were greeted right away by a friendly staff. The inside decor was very nice and welcoming. The menu is pretty big with a wide variety of selections to choose from and I found myself having a hard time deciding on what to get. I ended up ordering the Lamb tikka masala which is one of my favorite indian cusines. Oh my was it yummy! I ordered it spicy and it was definitely spicy. I hate when you order spicy or it says spicy and it isnt at all! It was also so flavorful! My boyfriend ordered the schezwan chicken fried rice. It was also very good and I caught myself stealing bites from his plate. As he was also stealing some bites from mine! We also ordered some garlic naan and once again so yummy! So yummy that we asked for another order! It was warm, had fresh garlic and was perfectly cooked. I have been to many Indian restaurants around the Madison area and this is by far the best I have ever had! My boyfriend and I kept telling each other through the meal on how impressed we were. We were so full but we wanted to keep eating cuz it was so good! The staff was friendly and the service was great as well! We will be going back regularly for sure.

I went here the other day with some colleagues and the food and service was amazing. It was my first time having Indian food. So, naturally, I wanted to take my husband to try the food as well. Our experience was almost the complete opposite. We arrived and were seated pretty quickly. However, after that, the service was horrible! Our food took close to an hour and 15 minutes to arrive after we ate our appetizer. While waiting, a bus boy came and took my empty drink, but him nor our waitress ever came to offer more to drinks to my husband and I. My husband finally got up and complained about the wait (hes a chef, so he knows nothing should ever take that long!). Our food finally came about 10 minutes after and it was still as amazing as I remembered. The manager did take a few dollars off and gave us a small dessert. However, that does not change the fact that our waitress kept disappearing to take smoke breaks, never offered us anything until we asked for it, and forgot to put in our order of naan (came later after we asked). Overall, we loved the food, but were really unpleased with the service. And "being busier than expected" is not an excuse for an hour long wait!

This was my first time trying OM and it was excellent. I love Indian cuisine and there are a lot of good ones in Madison, but this one stands out above the rest. The atmosphere is sophisticated, but welcoming. The staff is very pleasant and the Chefs know what theyre doing. In all, it is different in a good way. The food is fresh and there are many options to choose from. There are some familiar dishes, but this is Southern Indi cooking.... delicious and different from the rest. One of my favorites was the Chicken Vindaloo and there are several other meat and vegetarian options to choose from. I was there on a Tuesday for their lunch buffet. I had the pleasure of meeting one of the owners and learning more about their experience opening this gem of a restaurant.... theyve worked hard to make it great and it shows. As someone that works with small businesses on the financial side of things, I see many different types of business ideas. They have hit a home run with this one and I hope to see OM around for many, many years. Excellent!
