Absolutely the best dining experience Ive had in a very long time. The food was varied, exceptionally prepared by a chef and team that knows how to prepare wild game (Trust me, it requires skill). Husband and I were passing thru on the way to Charlotte and this was well worth the detour. Kate was our server, and she definitely listens to what you say and comment on, then provides recommendations based on your tastes. Truly one of the most exceptional servers Ive had anywhere in the US, including LA and NYC. She even made note of my food allergies for the chef! We had the sampler appetizer and loved every bite of the sausages. Im not a fan of sausage at all anymore, but these were DELISH! The sauces that accompanied them were outstanding; I dont like horseradish at all outside of cocktail sauce, and I kept going back for more. Thats how good it was. As others have mentioned, the butters were homemade....just roll me in the cinnamon butter and leave me to wallow. Nuff said... The entree was kangaroo, quail and rack of lamb. The lamb was perfect, if a bit on the small side but that was okay. I havent had quail since I was a child, but this one beat all memories to dust. It was light, creamy, and melted on your tongue. The kangaroo was exactly as Kate had described, and we ate it all even though it wasnt our favorite. Desserts are out of this world. They are huge portions and easily shared, and again - homemade! We had the chocolate "moose" cake and we would have licked the plate if wed had time. Every bite was chocolatey and light on your palate. Their carrot cake (at the table next to us) look spectacular and chock full of stuff - exactly the way it should be. But considering every table had the moose cake if anything, Id say thats their specialty dessert. Lets just say that before the entree was delivered to our table (split onto two plates, no less!), we had made plans to return again soon. This is definitely worth the trip, prices are not outrageous considering the quality of food and the difficulty of getting the game meats in general, and service worthy of Michelin star restaurants. You will not be disappointed. PS: Edmund, pay Kate more!! You cannot afford to lose her. The rest of the staff were just as good, but Kate took it a few steps above everyone else. She gets 5 stars for herself!

A colleague and I were on a quick business trip to Greenville this week and wanted to find a unique dinner spot. It has always been my preference to seek out locally-owned, non-national chain restaurants, and Saskatoon hit every high note with gusto. Our experience simply could not have been better, or more memorable. The wild game on the menu is what drew us in, and one step through the door was all it took to know we were in the right place. The place is decorated like a rustic mountain hunting lodge, and it doesnt feel like a gimmick. It is warm, inviting and welcoming. Our server, Carmon, was as knowledgeable about the menu as any server Ive encountered, and equally attentive. The bread she delivered was warm, soft and delicious. But its not often you get a loaf served with three types of butter, including cinnamon and blueberry. That was a wonderful touch. My colleague and I started off with a sausage trio appetizer that included buffalo, boar and elk, and it was fabulous! We almost felt bad about using the horseradish cream and sweet mustard sauces, because the meats were so perfect on their own. The entrées topped them, however. I thought about trying the emu, but the venison chops I selected erased any potential for regrets. They were unbelievably tender and cooked to a perfect medium rare, as ordered. My colleagues cowboy rib eye steak earned praise as "the best hes ever had". We didnt hit up dessert, because we simply didnt have the room. But if the quality of their sweets begins to approach that of our dinner selections, we will be at a loss for not making space. This restaurant personifies the kind of place I believe in supporting. It is a family-owned establishment 21 years into operation, that delivers its food with hearty doses of creativity, love and soul attached. Im not sure when Ill ever be back in Greenville, South Carolina, but even if I never make it back here, I will remember this dining adventure fondly for the rest of my days. Thank you and bravo!

my wife and I have been dining at Saskatoon for well over 15 years, and did so again recently for my birthday. We had the wild sausage appetizer (a favorite of mine sine Edmund put it on the menu), which was, as always, divine. The sausages are always flavorful, perfectly cooked, and tender. I still contend that after all these years, the Caesar salad from Saskatoon is still my favorite. Now some will say that a salad is simply a salad, but I would beg to differ. For the main course, I had the venison chops, and my wife always gets the filet. The chops were perfectly prepared medium rare, were fork-tender, and had a rich, savory mouth feel and taste. My wife, God bless her, insists on having her steak well-done. Many restaurants have actually made her feel as if she was doing something wrong by ordering it that way, but thats never an issue at Saskatoon. She always enjoys her meals there. Now Im not much of a dessert man myself, but my spouse cant leave there without a piece of the carrot cake, and she would cut you with a knife if you got between her and that cake. Our last visit was no exception. I could go on and on about the flavored butters and the bread, about the nice selection of craft beers and capable wine list, but suffice it to say that Saskatoon is simply my favorite restaurant in the upstate. Lastly, I would be remiss if I didnt include a comment that I made to my wife as we left the restaurant the other night. I remarked that I didnt think that in what has to be 100 visits or so, that wed ever had a bad meal there. Not once. And I have sampled darn near everything they have ever served. Ive had buffalo, elk, caribou, kangaroo, yak, llama, alligator, bear, emu, wild boar, lamb, pheasant, and others, Im sure. But the consistency and hands-on approach employed by Edmund and his staff is above and beyond every single time. If you have never visited, I highly recommend it. If you havent been in a while, what the heck are you waiting for? Get back.

When I walked into the door of Saskatoon I was met by a very out-west/Alaskan/Canadian decor and a very enthusiastic person. I asked to sit at the bar and proceeded to have a really marvelous time. The decor is very much the dark wood, iron, trophies on the wall type place - this is, in fact, a wild game restaurant. I felt 100% welcome by the servers and by the person who met me at the door. Her name is Renee and she and her husband Edmund Woo who are Chinese immigrants opened Saskatoon around ten years ago. I decided on ordering the ostrich after the bartenders full explanation of all of the different meats and fish on the menu. But after I placed my order, he presented me with a sample of the emu and the kangaroo which both had wonderful flavor and texture. It was interesting to try the different meats. The ostrich was really very good and apparently a very healthy meat to eat. The entree came with potatoes and vegetables and a salad. I substituted more vegetables for the potatoes which they gladly did. However the vegetables were a bit too under-cooked - Ill forgive them for that as everything else was pretty perfect. I asked Renee about the name which you maybe have figured out is a contraction of Saskatchewan and something else. Funny, I didnt get the rest of the story about the "toon" part. I guess Ill have to go back to find out. Saskatoon is probably one of the more interesting places Ive ever been to. I highly recommend that you go. Go Now!
