i would give it zero stars if i could...their bbq is bad at best, and the service is even worse. they are not only rude, but when they mess up your order (in the drive thru), they do absolutely nothing to fix it and dont even apologize. I went through the drive through and placed my order directly with the girl at the window, and she proceeded to get it COMPLETELY wrong. Then when we called up there to tell them we got the wrong thing they said, were about to close, next time you come back just tell them what happened and it will be on the house...then when we went back, it was far from "on the house" they actually raised their prices and now charge tax on their menu, when before it was all included (but of course they neglect to inform you that they now charge sales tax).... as a JI resident and frequent diner at local restaurants around the area, i will never go back there, esp when i can get better service and food at multiple bbq places on the island (melvins, smokey oak) i would bet that the good ratings on here are more than likely made by the owners friends...esp the most recent before mine, because as I said earlier, they now charge sales tax, which makes a bbq platter (which consists of about 4 ounces of bbq and mac and chz, and then about 8 ounces of some of the worst hash you will ever eat) almost $10. you can get much better food for the same price at any JI bbq place

I hate for all the "yankees" for find this little BBQ place cause they will take it over and might even end up raising the prices! But, the truth is: if you like good BBQ pork that is pulled and not shredded, then this is the place. If you like fried chicken that has flavor then this is the place. If you like southern style veggies then this is the place and if you like good ole namer pudding then this is the place. Oh, and if you like Southern hospitality then this sure is the place! What more can I say? Oh yes, the Price is Right! All You Can Eat, too!

The people at Dukes BBQ are so friendly! always greeted with a smile and they use maam and sir which is rare to find anymore. For the entrees,BBQ and "better than my mothers" fried chicken, you cant get more southern than that! All your favorite sides like the delicious Mac and Cheese, Collard greens and hash & rice.get a to go plate! Only $8.50 for 3 sides and an entree (nearly a pound and a half of food). they do a great job for large take out orders for the football games on the weekends, office parties, or whatever the occasion may be.

Some of the food was alright, but if the original owners were to go and dine there they would be very disappointed, They were uneducated in the history of the restaurant and just wanted my money and go away, teenybopper attitude, and We (The Locals), are horrified and disappointed at the behavior of the staff, I actually got sick in the restaurant from the "Canned Collards" that were served. Im surprised they are still open for business.

I was told Thursday is Chicken Liver and Gizzards. They are right. Them things are tinder ( for a gizzard LOL ) and not soaking in grease. Sorry I filled up on gizzards and Fried Okra. Finished it off with the Banana Pudding. OMG You can tell its homemade. This is probably the only place to get Fried Gizzards in the Charleston area.

I have to disagree with the review from a week ago. My wife and I live in Ireland and visit my dad annually on James Island. Were all fussy with our food and visited Dukes twice in a few weeks, as the food was great, excellent value and the staff were consistently welcoming and friendly. Cant wait to be back next year!

Food was awesome! However.. the customer service was absolutely AWFUL! Its unfortunate how terrible customer service can ruin such a good meal. Sabrina was responsible for our unpleasant experience. I eat here regularly, but this will probably make my return to Dukes unlikely at best.

Their $8.00 plate to go (with tax) is the BEST deal in town. Their famous competition charges that for a sandwich! Enough for two! Pulled pork that needs NO sauce and three sides.The buffet is loaded with ALL the good stuff. Consistent quality and service! Love it............

Great southern food buffet! Loved the bbq and all the side selections, desserts were delicious too! The price was reasonable and since we are visiting from California and have never been in the South, it was a chance to sample a lot of different southern style food at once.

This is the definition of southern home cooking. I doubt theres a better bbq in Charleston. This place has it all and its a buffet thats cheaper then half the fancy bbq places downtown. The pulled pork and fried chicken were phenomenal. Definitely worth the money

The buffet is small without a lot of choices. They do have pulled pork on the buffet but it is very dry. The highlight of the buffet was the hash and the red rice, both were excellent. I would not recommend this buffet for the price.

Southern comfort. Fried chicken is delicious. Use their South Carolina barbecue sauce for your barbecue. If you dont know which one it is... ask. Its a true SC sauce. This is traditional southern food.

Always good. Theyre the only place here that has a selection of BBQ sauces - thick tomato based sweet, vinegar, hot vinegar, and mustard. Good deserts and flounder on Fridays

Best buffet in the Carolinas. I live in NC and evertime I come to Charleston; I have at least one meal at Dukes. The hush puppies and corn fritters are to die for.

We got take out BBQ Baskets. The french fries tasted like three day old ff that had been in frig and then heated in microwave. The BBQ was cold. Terrible.

Go for the chicken. The Q is ok, the price is a couple bucks higher for the buffet than it should be BUT the fried chicken is terrific!!!
