We have been here many times before and have found that this place has been slipping lately. We were here this past weekend and ordered the quesadilla for an ap. For $9.95 this should have been a huge cheesy quesadilla. Instead, we got a burnt, barely any cheese holding it together, flat bland tasting tortilla. It was soggy and disgusting. Oh, and did I mention burnt? Actually black on parts. Considering I know what it takes to make a quesadilla ingredient wise and price wise, I know the complexity of this - what with taking cheese and placing it in a tortilla on a pan - and how hard that can be. It was disappointing to see such a simple item messed up, plated and served. For dinner I got a chicken avocado wrap which was actually pretty good. My daughter got the chicken caeser salad, which again for $14.95 should have been more than a huge bowl of salad with some tiny pieces of chicken. Although I know that the restaurant cannot control this, there was a large party of 10+ adult women did not seem to realize they werent the only ones in the restaurant and were being obnoxiously loud, and a baby on the lower floor that was consistently SCREAMING and I mean ear piercing could hear it up and down the stairs. Not the atmosphere I was looking for. We wont return here. Not worth the prices they are charging for what you are getting.

Dined here with my husband for dinner on a weekend getaway to R.I. We got the coco- rribbean chicken for appetizer, large portion, chicken was tender and juicy however the coconut batter was falling off the chicken before you could get it in your mouth. Sauce was good though. I got the pan seared salmon with sautéed spinach over jasmine rice. Our server explained that the salmon would be pan seared in garlic and soy sauce with a crispy side. The dish certainly was not what I was expecting. I received a plate filled with rice as if someone walked in from the outside and heaped a lot of rice in this plate, spinach was the next layer and then the salmon on top. The salmon was tasteless. I had to add salt to attempt to eat it. There was no hint of soy or garlic, its like this piece of fish was just placed in a pan to sear on its own and then removed and placed on top of a bed of rice and spinach. I was very disappointed with the food. I ordered a virgin strawberry daiquiri that came overflowing whip cream running down the side. This was not appealing and very sour. They need to work on presentation and refining what they do and pay attention to detail. Service was good though.

Very nice restaurant decor, food and waitstaff. I am giving this restaurant a solid 4 stars and there is only a few reasons why I to drop it down by one star and that is no immediate parking next to the facility, not handicapped assessable and for a restaurant that serves seafood and chowder, they dont serve Rhode Island clear broth chowder. Sorry folks, RI invented the clear broth chowder and to not have it on the menu is really a head scratcher. But all that aside this gem of Newport, RI has a beautiful destination bar all wood with comfortable seats around. The restaurant has beautiful woodwork throughout, making it a warm cozy atmosphere. Food is very well prepared and delicious. Waitstaff is friendly and very attentive and food comes out in a timely fashion. Restrooms are immaculate, as well as this entire facility. They have an upstairs dinning area looking out onto the bay as well. If you have a handicapped person in your party your best to drop them off at the door go and park your car and have them wait so you can assist them up the 6 stairs to enter. This is a place you must dine at and not to be avoided if possible.

If I wrote this review sooner, it definitely would have been 5 stars. However, after numerous trips to the Red Parrot with above satisfactory service, the most recent was not as pleasant. I reordered a dish I had in the past, and it was not to my liking. I informed my waitress and she walked away with the dish, with out ever making a trip back to my table. While this was happening, I watched the beer my husband ordered sit on the bar. When I brought this to my waitresses attention, her response was "well I have other tables" very rude and poor attitude, and also thru down the warm beer. The manager was very pleasant and apologetic towards the situation, and brought over my new dish immediately. Unfortunately, my whole family from out of state had already finished their meals as I was at the hostess station waiting to speak to the manager. The waitress came over with the bill along with a snarky apology. All and all, what was supposed to be a celebratory dinner was ruined.

They do a lot right. The food is solid American fare with an emphasis on fish. Everything is pretty tasty: Bacon cheese burger, chicken Caesar salad, salmon, and steak tips. The table was roomy and the chairs are comfortable. The staff was attentive and polite. All in all a good experience. The only think I did not like was it was really loud. There was music from a sound track, the floor is wood and ceiling is vinyl (looks like a tin ceiling and despite it being vinyl it looks good). With all those hard surfaces it is really loud and hard to hear the people you are dining with. Coming back from the bathroom there was a woman at a table near the bar and she was literally screaming to talk to the people at her table. I didnt go upstairs, maybe it is quieter up there. I would probably go back despite the noise.

Great place to sit and watch the world go by. Lovely historic building with excellent interior decor, great windows and good natural light. My wife and I had dinner here on a Monday night in October 2016. We enjoyed it very much, mostly because it was a beautiful place to sit and enjoy the surroundings and scenery in this lively section of Newport near the waterfront. My cocktail was fabulous (and most bartenders dont get good reviews from me). The waitress was very good. My wife did not like her margarita pizza, so they took it off our bill. I had a burger and sweet potato fries and I was happy. I would go back here again for drinks or a meal. I like the place.

I have lived in Rhode Island all my life and have never managed to get to the Red Parrot until this summer.... Let me tell you, who ever writes the reviews and says it was terrible, what do you expect?? Its a fun place, great food with many choices for everyone....Food was very fresh and tasty. Its casual dining so expect families, young college students and tourists...Our waitress was adorable, friendly, and there when we needed her. It was a busy saturday night so we had to wait a little..So what!!!! We had a drink, and ohhhh so many choices there also.. Treat yourself to a fun dining exprerience and go.....Do not wait so long as i did....

A 4+ Star restaurant anywhere but in Newport. I heard it called the "Cheesecake Factory of Newport" and that describes it well. Dont over-read other reviews. Yes, youll get better seafood elsewhere in Newport. Yes, its a tourist hotspot, but the food is very, very good and great for the price. It has a widely varied menu keeping everyone happy. Service is less than spectacular, but you wont spend all day or night waiting for food or the check. We had a party of 12 seated at 6 p.m. within 5 minutes. Not fit for foodies, but a great restaurant in one of the most convenient locations. Prices are great
