My family went into the restaurant to treat ourselves to a mid-day meal. It was immediately explained (and explained again later) to us by our waitress that this time of day (3ish) is "transition time" and based on her abrupt manner, it was clear that whatever this entailed - which included not knowing what the soup of the day was - coming into the restaurant at this time of day was an annoyance. I wish they would simply close during this time if they dont want to be bothered. In fact, I wish they had closed. The waitress brought over our drink order and proceeded to pour a bottle of beer into a glass the way she had poured the water (more of a dump than a pour really) causing the expected reaction of an overflow onto the table. At $6 a beer, that is an expensive mess. No apology or offer to make up for what was now all over the table was made. Accidents happen, but her complete disregard for what she had done, coupled with her lame attempt to wipe it up only made it worse. We made no complaint and pressed on placing our order (3 of us) of very basic Italian dishes. After waiting more than 20 minutes (again, not voicing any complaint) and listening to an apology for the delay (there were only a couple of tables with customers), a plate with a clearly burned piece of chicken (it was black) partially covered with cheese and sauce was placed in front of me. The waitress, who had to have seen this, quickly disappeared yet again so I signaled someone else who was nearby and discreetly showed her the piece of charcoal that was being passed off as chicken. She took the plate, apologized and said they would make another. The manager came over, apologized for the "well-done chicken" and left. Ten minutes or so later, I was given my entree. Then the "transition" (a.k.a. change in waitresses) that we had been warned about took place and the replacement introduced herself saying she would now be taking care of us. Since this level of care involved nothing more than handing us the bill, it seemed like much ado about not much. Anyway, the minute I signed the credit card slip, waitress #2 was back scooping it up. (Note to her: Normally waiting until the customers leave is the way to do that.) Overall, due to the lack of courtesy, professionalism and skill from everyone it was a very disappointing experience which we wont be in a hurry to repeat.

First off, I know Italian food, my father held the title of Head Chef at exclusive clubs in Philadelphia and then Florida. That being said, I went to Mercato Ristorante with the Love of my life for Valentines day. We were smart, we got there around 5:45 for @ 6:00 reservation. We got the seat I wanted. The service was professional. The only time I saw my waitress was when I wanted something. The food was nothing less then Amazing. I had the Lasagna, it was the best I ever had. The Meatball appetizers were phenomenal. The owner stopped by my table. Brianna was my waitress, a true pro. Alfredo and Barb, the owners were attentive to all their customers as I can not help notice how a restaurant is run. I highly recommend you go enjoy not only the meal, but the experience as well..

GO ELSEWHERE! TERRIBLE OWNER. Awful and uncomfortable experience. The space for our large gathering was double booked. We were rushed out an hour earlier than our contracted time. BARB, the owner, was rude, unprofessional, and unapologetic. STAY AWAY! Too many better options in this area. Spend your money at an establishment that appreciates its customers.

A very rude and obnoxious owner/manager who decided to up the price of a pre-booked luncheon in his restaurant on the morning of the event! The luncheon was being held to thank the volunteers who help at a non-profit organization in West Chester. This man has no understanding of community, charity or manners. Mercato has lost many future customers today.

Over priced for quality of food. Ordered their "pork chop special" which ended up being a deep fried 1/2" cut pork certer loin chop with a small amount of chopped arugalua and a small amount of cheese on top; and that was it, thats all there was on the plate. This was $40. Also, restaurant has a strange odor inside. Almost a butane gas like smell...

We happened to pick one of busiest weekends in West Chester to pop in without reservations. The hostess forgot to assign a waiter to our table, so we procured one that was near by. He did an excellent job. While the service was slow it was worth the wait. Both our dishes were superb, stuffed pork chops and N.Y.strip steak. Well definitely go again.

Good food and a great lunch buffet, if youre willing to put up with the obnoxious wait-staff. If you go in for the buffet, youll still have to deal with rude waiters who act like youre an inconvenience while you go and fetch your own food and they collect the tips. If they cleared out the waitstaff thisd be one of the best spots in town.

THe basement seating area smells identical to a fresh port-a-Jon. So bad I couldnt even think about seafood. The food wasnt terrible, but if your from any place where Italian food is a normal occurrence (New Jersey), it is sub par. Dont even bother ordering the overpiced beer, wine or liquor. Service was great. Thats the second star.

Waitstaff is unprofessional and tried to sit 5 adults at a 4 person table, and bring a chair on the end. Wasnt going to happen with people walking back and forth from the kitchen. Every time we go there seems to be an issue with seating, even with a reservation! Foods ok, but I would much rather go a few blocks over to Limoncello

I love this place. The bar is a little more refined than most in WC, but still gets a good crowd. The food tastes fresh and the servers are efficient and professional (though not always as friendly as some other places). I worry that this place isnt always busy as they deserve to succeed!

The server kept interrupting us in the middle of our conversation. He nagged us till we ordered. They tried to take my plate while I was finishing it. I asked for change for a $20 and he tipped himself and then gave me change! Terrible service I would never go back.

Good food. Pasta dishes were tasty. We had the marscopone crostini as a shared app and it was amazing with the honey, pear and cheese combo. Nice for small group get together. We were able to sit outside and it was great.
