Please dont go here. Im begging you. I wouldnt wish this place on my own worst enemy. I wouldnt wish this on the girl who cheated on my best friend. This place was a literal nightmare. . I think Ive been to Jimmy Wans 4 times this month, so I was sick of it. Plus Id heard good things about TaiPei, so I thought Id give it a whirl. The service was abysmal - my waiter took 10 minutes to recognize Id sat down. He was very kind, but only dropped my food off. No "hows it going", no water refills, no offer of dessert or other courses. A kind busboy kept refilling my drink. The portions are extremely small - Ive never seen such tiny sushi rolls in my life. The menu says theres a charge for fried rice instead of white. Huh. Jimmy Wans offers white and brown, no extra charge. Interesting. The atmosphere was atrocious. A family in the table to my left and in front let their child (6 or 7, mind you) take off his shoes and walk around. He then ground his heel into the carpet - with a piece of chicken in between. He swiped a cloth napkin from an empty table and rubbed it all over his feet. I audibly gasped, but his obese mother couldnt hear me or ignored me. Then she threatened to take each of their Kindles away if they didnt shut up. The boy was eating with salad tongs instead of a fork all night long. The waitstaff saw what was happening and didnt care at all. My waiter didnt show up after I was finished with my meal and when he did (after Id requested someone else get him) he failed to clear my dirty plates. I finally told the owner how terrible the whole thing was - namely the ambiance and the service and she asked if I wanted anything to go and apologized for being busy. You...think I want something to go? How were 15 people in the 50 seat restaurant and one small takeout order. How....is that busy? Other reviews have mentioned that the ownership has changed hands. If you care about your health, dont go to a restaurant where the waitstaff doesnt care if children grind chicken into the carpet. If they find that behavior outside of the kitchen normal, can you imagine what they do inside the kitchen? I have no doubt little handwashing goes on and much wiping of noses while cooking. Jews, dont go here on Christmas, even if though they loudly advertise theyre open. If 15 people means theyre "busy", can you imagine what itll be like on Christmas? The slowness of the whole establishment is astounding. I dropped my little brother off at Jimmy Wans immediately before going to TaiPei - a 15 second drive between establishments. Wans parking lot was jam packed and he ate with 9 other friends. He called me to pick him up as I was paying the bill. How the hell did TaiPei take as long as Jimmy Wans did to seat and serve and bill 10 people as they did me, the 15th person in their restaurant? Only go here if you have a death wish or are a practicing masochist.

I have never been disappointed in this restaurant before...but with my most recent experience that has changed. I ordered Shrimp and scallops with vegetables in birds nest. I dont believe the menu mentioned imitation crab meat shredded all through the dish, which was very soggy. The scallops were mushy except for the crunch of sandy grit in a few of them. The overall taste was bland and the rice was mushy. When I asked the waitress what the stringy mushy stuff was, she told me crab meat, I said it must be imitation, she said yes it is. I said I didnt read that on the menu, she said...Oh. When I told her about the scallops, she told me next time I order that dish to ask for all shrimp and no scallop. My friend ordered the same dish, she said her noodles (birds nest) was not edible, our waitress told her it is very good if you take it home and drop it in a pot of chicken soup..."very delicious that way." Never did she offer to take the meals back to the kitchen and make them right or offer something else. Never did she have the manager come to see us. We did not tip that waitress. I have never in my life not tipped a waitress, in fact, I always tip 20%. This woman has worked there for years, I had expected a much better experience.

I wrote a more thorough review on Yelp, but I wanted to come here to register my dissenting opinion with some of the recent one star reviews here. I came in with somewhat guarded expectations because of these reviews, but I had a thoroughly enjoyable time there. We ordered three sushi rolls, two egg rolls, an order of crab rangoon, three hot teas, a diet pepsi, sesame beef and General Tsos chicken and it fed four adults comfortably at about $60 for the tab. Entrees go as low as $11 and as high as $30+ for the fancy chefs selection, so you can sort of choose your own adventure. Our drinks were filled and refilled promptly. We had two babies, one of which was somewhat hyperactive, but the staff was very good natured about it. I dont know if these recent naysayers are hipsters, shills for Jimmy Wans or generally grumpy, or perhaps I just got lucky, but I would definitely go to Taipei again.

I have loved this place for years and have always had a good experience but today my wontons in my wonton soup had almost RAW PORK in it.... I called and was transferred to a gentleman that hung up on me after me calmly stating complaint. I called again and asked to talk to a manager and the women responded "what can I do for you" and I repeated myself and she responded the same a second time. She then explained to me that it is not raw it is red because it was cooked with hoisin sauce. I cooked in a restaurant for years and know what cooked and in cooked meat looks like. Undercooked pork should not be consumed. Check your food here. They are not good problem solvers.

Terrible. Threw away $88.00 worth of takeout. Used to love tai pei, but now its apparently under new ownership and the food is beyond bad. Everything has changed. Beef w broccoli was soggy, Szechuan beef was horrid, all the beef was old tough and of poor quality. All the recipes have changed now, and the food is really not edible. The ingredients too are of very poor quality. Yuck. We ordered 3 times now since the new owners, and threw it all away 3 times. What a shame! I miss the old tai pei! :(

Best egg roll on the face of the earth. The staff is top notch and actually takes time to speak to its patrons. LOVE LOVE LOVE the chicken and broccoli. I think its reasonably priced, its a restaurant not a normal take out place. Come on people, really? Atmosphere is pleasant and quiet. I go there so often that they know exactly what I am going to order :) I would like to send a special thanks to Jeff, one of the managers for spectacular service every time we go!!!

Placed an order for delivery. The food arrived on time, but the delivery driver was very ignorant. She said that next time I place an order it needs to be a larger order because it was to far to drive to. We are only in Harmar which is an area they deliver to often. I called the manager to inform him of his rude delivery driver, all he said was he would talk to her, but did apologize. I will never order from there again
