Experience and Atmosphere: So I came to Black Sheep Pub & Restaurant a less than a week ago at the start of Philadelphia Sips (an all summer event featuring discount foods/alcohol at certain restaurants throughout center city of Philadelphia). My first impression at this bar was pretty good; it reminded me of the quaint bars in college. Its a pub so it gave a very "lets drink and chill" kind of feeling, but it also made me feel as though its not too clean. The atmosphere was very friendly, and a hostess asked us right away whether wed like a table or sit by the bar. We asked for a table and were taken by a server rather quickly. We were given a menu and a special menu for Philadelphia Sips. We spent over an hour here, and we had a great time. Food: Since it was Philly Sips, we ordered only appetizers since they were half off. We ordered four: their Mac&Cheese, quesadilla, fries, and cheesesteak spring rolls. The food was good and very filling. I loved the m&c and the quesadilla; I was only content with the other two. Everything was actually a little too oily, but other than that, the taste was pretty good. Water was given to us in plastic cups. A piece of black debris went into one of mine, but the server got me another. As for their beer selection, it was decent. I didnt really look over them this time around, but I will definitely do it next time! Service: Service was great! The hostess was really friendly and got us a great seat. Our server came back just enough to check up on us; she wasnt too frequent or too infrequent. She even gave us a second cup of water because she said she might not be back enough to give us some. Another staff member came to ask us if we were doing good as well. Pros: Service, Environment of People Cons: Dirty Feeling Rating: 3.5/5

This place has gone donwhill fast. I used to go here all the time when I lived in rittenhouse. the last 2 times I have gone, I have been appalled. On the most recent occasion, our busboy insulted one of the people in my party, and then decided to stand in the server station, eat chicken wings, lick his fingers, and clean his teeth with a toothpick, while we sat there with our dishes from our second course stacked on top of the dirty dishes form our first course. We sat and discussed how bad the service was, and one of the members of our party pointed out how we can provide direct feedback in the form of a low tip. And how this exactly what the incentives-based gratuity system is geared toward, from and economics standpoint. Unfortunately, we did not have the opportunity to provide this feedback as our party of 5 people was auto-gratted TWENTY PERCENT. When i complained I was told to "deal with it." I mentioned I would not return and was told that they dont want me to come back anyway. If you want better pub food, better beer, and dont want to be insulted, try Monks Royal TAvern, Good Dog, Standard Tap or North Third.

I had previously always had good experiences here, so I recommended it for a quick work lunch. The service was fantastic and attentive. The burgers in the past have always been made well, but we ordered them in a variety from "Medium well" to "medium rare", and unfortunately they all came out hockey puck well (grey throughout and hard crusted outside). We didnt have time for a re-make so we ate them anyway. Unfortunately something about our meal caused all three of us gastrointestinal difficulty for the next four hours, and as it hit each of the three of us at work, and we hadnt otherwise had a meal together I assume it was our lunch. Unfortunately I wont be bringing another group for lunch, but I might give them another try on another night... Ive many times enjoyed their shepherds pie, fish and chips, and burgers... this was just a single bad experience.

Finally decided to swing by this place after living within 3 blocks for the past 3 years. Last time Ill go... If youre looking to relax with a drink its probably a nice stop. If youre hungry, might want to look elsewhere. I say might because I only got 2 things off the menu... so I can only comment on those. 1. Wings: awful sauce, tasted like they were frozen for a year, cost 9 dollars for about 8 wings. 2. Chicken open face "cheesesteak": A disgrace to put something like this out and call it a cheesesteak in Philly. It was shredded boiled chicken breast put on a piece of bread. So I guess Black Sheep really is just a pub.... if thats what youre looking for youre golden. The beer I had was great!

I hate to have to say this - but i hate the Black Sheep. This saddens me becuase it used to be one of my favorite places in the city. But they hired a new chef and things have really gone down the toilet. I dont understand how you could be featured in the Philadelphia Weekly as having one of the best veggie burgers in the city - AND THEN TAKE IT OFF YOUR MENU!. Are you stupid? I actually went into there and left because it was gone. Then we went back to try to see if anything was salvageable and really it all just kind of sucks. They may have gotten fancy menus and stuff - but really the food is pretty horrible now. It is very sad. I probably will never go back unless forced to by friends.

I experienced the worst customer service in a restaurant here! The waiter just ignored us and the other tables as he and other co-workers chatted. The worst part was that no one at my table was billed properly, and when we divided the bill ourselves, the person had to audacity to ROUND UP!! So I said it was illegal and I wanted them to void the previous credit card charge, to which he argued that I was being petty! I told them my mother has owned a restaurant before and it is not difficult to void previous charges. When I got my statement, I was billed 3 times, so I had to challenge it with Chase (who cancelled the wrong charges.) Needless to say, I do not recommend this place to anyone.

DISSAPOINTING EXPERIENCE. My girlfriend and I when here the other night for a nice date. Had heard some good things about it. Was sat at a dirty table with broken seats and flies buzzing all around us. A server eventually came to help us . Not without an attitude though . Drinks were shabby , beer was warm, and the food was inedible. To make matters even worse the owner was so drunk he had to be carried out by four grown men. This may have been the place for a hot date back in the 90s , but in this century probably best to avoid at all cost. With that being said will never be back.

We were seated upstairs and quickly helped by the bar tender/ waiter up there. He was very attentive and helpful. The food was quickly brought to the table and looked great. Both of our dishes were fantastic! The only reason I gave them 4 stars was because both dishes where just slightly too salty. That may have been just our tastes though since we dont normally use much salt. Next time were in Philly we will absolutely go back!
