Food is great. Ordered pick up on phone. Got there and when the lady said my order back the price was higher than the night before. I politely told her it was the wrong order, but she had already swiped my card. She apologized and had gotten an older woman was nearby (maybe manager) and i explained to her that the food was wrong and Ill take everything else but the wrong food. She tried telling me its my fault, and I told her I simply dont want the food and i wasnt upset about it, I just wanted it taken off the card.. She called me a name in Japanese and ripped all the food out of the bag and slammed it on the counter, then walked to the cash register and started talking the young lady in Japanese. The young lady obviously knew I knew the older woman was was talking about me, and remained quiet. She handled the situation properly and ignored her. The woman wrapped my food up and thrust it at me and said, "Ok." and walked away. Nasty attitudes ruin business reputations.

No line when we got there even though we went mid-day on a Saturday, food wasnt throughly cooked through seemed a bit rushed. I got the Pork buns and Curry Chicken Cutlet. Small place and was put at the counter with very little to no elbow room to even eat and enjoy the meal. Drinks was mediocre at best which sucked might as well BYOD. Hostesses barely asked us anything to make sure we were okay only if we wanted more drinks which would increase the bill they offered little no explanation to how things there worked. Finally as we were leaving and payed the bill we were harassed by a hostess to tip saying "we cant just leave without paying anything" which I found appalling because we payed a large bill and the service was far from good; there is no sign there or rule that you MUST tip especially when all you have left is money to catch the bus home :-/ CONCLUSION: Will not be going back!!

This is my favorite ramen place in Philly. My fiance, a Philly native, brought me here when I asked him for some authentic Japanese ramen, and weve come here ever since. The experience begins when you first walk through the door into a chorus of "IRASHIMASEN" (welcome) from the employees. Then, the very polite but hardworking servers come to seat you quickly and get your drinks even quicker. There arent many items on the menu, but each item is delicious in its own right. My fiance swears by the karaage chicken curry udon, while my favorite would have to be the spicy kimchi ramen. But you really cant go wrong with any entree. The pork buns were sub par... Go to NYC for those. But all the other appetizer options are delicious and memorable. Service is fast, helpful and friendly. Food is fun and delicious. I would go everyday if I didnt live 40 minutes away.

If Im ever anywhere nearby, Terakawa is my go-to dinner spot. It isnt pricey, its very filling, and if you go at the right time, the wait isnt long if there even is one. The food comes quickly and its delicious. Its probably the only place that can get me to eat my vegetables. My regular dish is the shrimp tempura udon (pictured), and my bowl is always cleaned by the time Im done. The broth, noodles, and everything on top is all super delicious, and the shrimp is the best Ive had in my life, so I always order extra shrimp on the side (usually comes with two, but I order an extra two). Also they have Ramune, which, if you dont know, is a Japanese marble soda and its super tasty. Great place for two-three people to eat, but anything more than that youll probably have to wait a while as the place is pretty small. Favorite dinner spot in Chinatown.

I attempted to dine at Terakawa about a month ago with some friends and we came around 9:30--an hour and a half BEFORE closing. There were no people waiting and it was slow. However, the hostess that sat us and the waitress was very very rude. The hostess said "dont come in when were closing". We just shrugged it off and apologized even through the SIGN said 11PM close. The waitress came over with a condescending look on her face and said "yeah next time dont come in this close to closing". I spoke up and said "but the sign said 11PM. It is currently 9:42." She rolled her eyes and said "what do you all want?" Needless to say, we got up and left. Im am going to call the restaurant and file a formal complaint. That waitress needs some manners. Never coming here again and its a shame too. I heard so many good things about the food. Oh well.

A great experience in the heart of Chinatown. The line was out the door, so check your analytics. We got lucky and came in during a lull, meaning we only waited ten minutes to be seated. My knowledge of "authentic" ramen is minimal. As a cultural experience, Terakawa was unique and worthwhile. I was giddy peeking over the top of the bar to watch the chefs work frenetically to serve the bustling restaurant. The water pots looked like they held fifty gallons apiece. The ramen was well-priced and came out relatively quickly. I ordered a specialty ramen with pork, egg, and a medley of other goodies. Honestly, it was too rich for my tastes from the pork, but my gut tells me that there are probably several other lighter broths that would have fit my tastes perfectly. I look forward to coming back on my next visit to Philadelphia.

Best food so far experienced in Philadelphia. I am born and raised in Italy and when its time to eat I have objectively higher standard than americans (my fiance is american, so no offense). I discovered Terakawa a couple of years ago and became my favorite place to eat in town. I tried most of Terakawas soups: beef udon is just incredible, my favorite. However if you are japanese maybe this place is not good enough compared to your taste. I would be curious to see what japanese people think about Terakawa. If that matters, the service is nice and the restaurant has an interesting layout with a long kitchen right in front of the bar and tables (japanese style). Not surprisingly there is usually a long wait, unless you go during the weekdays late in the evening for a heart-warming ramen. They do also take-away.

Im never let down by Terakawa Ramen. The Ramen is always top notch! I go for the signature, Terakawa Ramen and it always quality. There used to be an extra spicy Ramen bowl about a year ago but its no longer on the menu. However, I popped in yesterday at 1145 (opens at 1130 and on a Thursday no less and there was already a 3person wait) and it was delicious! I told them medium saltiness and it was perfect. With tip, I spent just under $15 for the bowl with extra chicken. The broth is a miracle on cold days (like yesterday 30 degrees in Philadelphia). Attentive staff was a pleasure. I will return soon. Thanks!

Im from L.A. and Im a ramen/tsukemen addict. This cannot be the best ramen in Philly and if it is, then I have no hope for the rest of the ramen places here. The noodles and broth are average, the differentiating factors are their atypical toppings. Definitely another one of the places that uses the standard restaurant ramen base from the big box companies. Side note: If any of you are in L.A. and enjoy nontraditional fatty tsukemen/ramen then go to to Tsujita Annex (not the regular Tsujita across the street) or Tatsu for modern flavors (the original one on Sawtelle has better quality control than on Melrose).
