I came in with high expectations, however I left a little disappointed. I arrived at 2:50p only to be told the place will be closing at 3p. So, it automatically made me feel I had to RUSH in eating. I ordered the Takara Tonkotsu Ramen, however I asked if the soft boiled egg could be hard as I do not like runny eggs. The server said this is how we serve it, however we can take it out. I elected for the egg to be removed, thinking I am glad when I eat breakfast out, I do not have to eat my eggs the way the Chef feels is best for me. The dish came out, and I noticed how little broth it had in the bowl for the amount they were asking in cost. The broth, was only warm as I am thinking they had turned the stove off with the anticipation of the 3p closing. Upon eating the Ramen Noodles, I thought they were good, however I wondered if they were the same Ramen Noodles I buy at the store. I am thinking now that they have cases of Ramen Noodles in the back and they open each package for each order. Personally, I thought it was a little over priced for what you receive especially in the lack of broth in the bowl I received. I may be back, but not anytime in the near future. Too many places around who have excellent noodle soup which is served hot and lots of broth and will make it to order. Very disappointed that they did not take the time to cook my egg hard.

Came to Richmond with my girlfriend to watch the movie Your Name (which was excellent BTW!). After the movie we thought wed try to find a Ramen shop like we had seen in a Netflix show we got hooked on called Good Morning Call. A quick Google search in the area and this place pulled up. Takara Ramen was such a great experience! Just what we wanted! I enjoyed the Miso Ramen, while the other enjoyed the Chicken Curry Ramen. It was so good! We enjoyed how the place was set up with a tv playing current Asian music. Some of the music videos were of the KPop group BTS. I love them and was excited to see them on the tv there! Such a good time getting to enjoy great Japanese Ramen! Also tried the Hot Sake and loved it! Whenever we get back to the area we plan to visit again! Open up a location in Lynchburg, VA. There are so many foreigners here for the 6 colleges in the area that we have a large Asian population that would eat there everyday if we had one! Such a great experience! Thank you! Hope your business will stay successful!

If youve ever only known the $0.10 packs of dried ramen, this place is decent. But if youre looking for real ramen here, youll be disappointed. The tonkotsu broth is thin and bland; no body at all, minimal pork flavor, and clearly not cooked long enough. Sipping the broth when it first comes to you, it is pleasant. Unfortunately, as the pork belly slides into the broth, its quickly ruined. The meat is cooked on a propane grill, and has that pungent "flame broiled" flavor so reminiscent of a crappy burger King meal. Once that dissolves into the broth, its over. Goyza are pretty tasty, but clearly frozen and out of a package. I went back to the soup after polishing off 5 goyza, and the burnt grill flavor had permeated the entire bowl. Not too pleasant. While the food isnt particularly great, the service is excellent, and everything is served very quickly. If youre looking for a quick lunch in the area, it isnt a terrible choice... Just manage your expectations.

All around this was a mediocre experience. The place was admittedly busy, but our waiter never came by again after dropping the menus off. The hostess served us, and she was attentive as she could be given her other duties. I got the tonkatsu pork ramen and some pork gyoza. The gyoza tasted of grease and grime. It was also served luke warm with the edges still cold. The ramen tastes of prepackaged items. The noodles look and taste of Top Ramen or some other cheap ramen you can buy at Martins. (Also, mine was supposed to have flat "normal noodles" but I couldnt tell the difference between the noodles I got and the noodles my boyfriend had in his which were supposed to be curly.) The broth also had no depth. It wasnt even particularly salty. The pork was pretty good in mine, but what is ramen with lackluster noodles and broth? The atmosphere was nice, but if you have a bad back, the stools are not for you. In short, I will not be returning to Takara Ramen.

So happy to see this place finally opened earlier this week! While Shoryuken Ramen is/was probably the high point of ramen in Richmond, Takara is a fine substitute. I had the shumai dumplings which were excellent, and the tonkatsu ramen was very solid. The broth wasnt the most flavorful Ive ever had, but it did its job just fine. The chashu (roasted pork) and soft-boiled egg might have been my favorite parts of the ramen but as a whole it was very good, and the portion wasnt so large that I felt overstuffed afterwards, just pleasantly full. They also have a decent selection of local beers on tap for how small the place is. There are even vegetarian options for the ramen and some other dishes, like dumplings. The atmosphere was great and the service was prompt and friendly. Ill absolutely be going back (especially since Im moving to an apartment that happens to be right in the area!).

Really wanted it to be good. We need something like this in the West End. It was terribly disappointing. The Shoyu broth was absolutely overwhelmed by burnt garlic. The noodles were mush. The pork was past charred and just tasted like an uncleaned grill grate. The chairs at the bar were, I believe, torture devices and my knees felt like they were being shredded by the sharp pieces of tin ceiling tiles. The dining room is tiny, but they filled it with heavy furniture and lots of it. The stools are about 13 inches off the ground. On top of all that, $26 dollars for two bowls of soup and warm water out of a mostly clean bottle. I was really rooting for them. So, to sum up: uncomfortable, expensive, not tasty. So sad to have to say all this.

This is the best Ramen shop in the area. Unfortunately, there isnt that much competition. I think the atmosphere and service are the high points. Service was friendly, quick and efficient. The atmosphere has the bustle of a legit ramen shop where you can pop in for a quick hot bowl and move on. The ramen broth was a little disappointing. The takara tonkatsu was light on depth of flavor. The chicken miso had little miso flavor. However, the char siu was rich and fatty as it should be. Prices were higher than expected given the quantity of food. But the quality of much of the ingredients made up for that somewhat. The sum of the ingredients werent more than the parts though.

Have been waiting for a Ramen place since most of the area restaurants which offer Ramen seem more like an after thought, so was very excited to try this place. It dint disappoint, the seating is communal, no private spaces, the service is quick. Tried the garlic tonkatsu shoyu ramen, which was very garlicky good, the pork was tender and smoky, the broth had everything you would expect from a good ramen. Very limited vegetarian options, the dumplings are good, the vegetarian ramen is more like a mild thai curry with ramen. Will definitely visit this place often.
