Food was good . Service was poor. I went there for dinner around 9 pm on Saturday with 2 friends The hostess was slow to seat us . The waitress was slow to approach our table and take our orders . When we all ordered our meals the waitress asked us if we wanted to substitute fries in our dinners . Everyone substituted fries. When we got our checks , there was an additional $2.50 charge on the checks . When asked about the extra charge we were told it was for the fries. Told her that she didnt say anything about extra charge for substitution when she took the order. She smirked and said that she was just up selling our orders . I asked her to take the extra charges off our bills. She came back and told us the charges were removed And then in her next breath, she said we would catch a lot of crap for removing the extra charges, and told us to remember that when we tipped her. I would have tipped her extra, if not for the fact her service was poir. It took multiple requests for extra water and extra sauce for the meal .

We came in with a party of 11 for my birthday dinner last night. The service was great and the beer and whiskey selections are quite extensive. We sat in the back room, where a HUGE flat screen adorned one wall. Playoff football was playing and the group sitting next to us was really into the game. They have a big menu and I found it to be very reasonably priced. Most of our group got burgers. A couple got the beef brisket, one got the meatloaf, hubby got a sandwich and my dad got a hot dog. I got the Chipotle Burger and had them make it with ground turkey. The flavor was spicy and delicious, but the patty itself was a little chintzy. It was really thin and not that great. Fries were decent. Overall the place was loud, but they had plenty of room for our large party and I enjoyed our time.

My friends and I went here last night around 8pm. The food was good but the drinks were very expensive $72 worth. We had to dig deep in our pockets to pay..So we couldnt leave much of a tip. My friend and I were outside taking pictures when one of the waitress came out and told us we were wrong and they barley make money..she just made us feel horrible and pointing us out because we were African American..However Kathleen came outside with her deepest regrets. We drove to wawa and came back to give her $20....no thanks to her racist co worker. She is a older white lady with short brown hair smh

For what this spot is (a tiny yet upscale neighborhood pub), it remains one of the very BEST in all of Philly. The staff is friendly and genuine; the libations are generously poured; the food is quite delicious because of how much they FOCUS upon the overall dining experience. Kudos for the cloth napkins! Add to those attributes the "10-past-9" menu, on which a half-dozen entrees cost only $10 after 9 oclock, plus the occasional weekend appearance of Rev Chris with his jazz piano, and you have a go-to place where things are done "bloody well RIGHT," as Supertramp might put it.

To be fair, Ive only been here once and they might have been having an off night. We were seated practically on top of the live musicians (literally my arm was almost touching theirs), and my friend was crammed inbetween tables on a fold out chair. The service was okay, and the food was okay, but overall the experience was not what we had hoped for. Definitely dont go here if you are looking for good craft beers - their selection was an array of bland ales, and there are MUCH better places to get good beer in the area.

One of my all-time favorites. Very small and cosey with all of the ambiance of an Irish pub. Food is very good with specials written on the black board over the fireplace. Never have been disappointed in the six years that I have been a patron. The manager looks like Peter O’Toole and the service is excellent. AND TIFFANY, SPECIALTY DRINKS ARE $9 AND ARE CLEARLY STATED ON THE MENU! DO THE MATH AND 4 DRINKS @$9 = $36 X 2 ROUNDS COMES OUT TO $72.

I stopped in for a quick bite and a drink and loved this place. The atmosphere was cozy and comfortable. Not too bright or dark. Theres a bar up front and regular seating in the back. The food was delicious, as well as the beer! The prices were very fair for the quality of food you receive. The service was quick and friendly. Ill definitely be back here again and recommend anyone to stop by this place to try their food.

Tavern on the Hill is a family favorite and a true neighborhood treasure. It is a warm, friendly place with good pub food in a cozy environment. The proprietors, Kathleen and John, are lovely people and the servers are consistently professional and nice people. As a vegetarian, the menu is limited but it still makes a perfect place to go with friends, family and even business acquaintances. So glad it is in the hood!

My husband and I ALWAYS feel welcome at this warm, cozy neighborhood place! The host (proper, relaxed and old world-mustached) always makes us feel as if we are old friends who have come to enjoy a home cooked dinner! The food is delish, the prices are recession-proof, and the live music works for any crowd. We are so fortunate to live around the corner from this neighborhood gem. Bravo!!

The new menu here is fabulous, and the beers on tap are excellent as well. Theres also a very nice and ever-changing wine list, in case youre not a beer drinker. Be sure and try the chili -- its the BEST EVER!! And the burgers! BEST EVER!! Plus, they have great live music many nights, and its a happy, friendly crowd. Also, the waitresses are adorable :-)

My wife and I ate there last night and found it to be ok. The food was very good, the ambiance was so-so, and the beer selection was a bit lacking in imagination as well as temperature for beer. The portabella mushroom fries were very good. The bartender was friendly and accommodating.

A friend and I had lunch there around noon. They have a decent wine selection and beers, but above all the service is exceptional. I think our waitresss name was Moreen (forgive the spelling) and she really made a difference

Always a good meal at a fair price at this neighborhood hang-out. A very friendly tavern, if I sit at the bar here I always find someone to talk to, all types seem to migrate to this spot.

Best spot in Chestnut Hill for a drink or two, regardless if youre on your way home or just starting out for the night. Or you just might stay there. Good atmosphere and nice crowds.

Awesome, helpful, lovely staff. A cozy little book of a bar with low lighting and soft old music. The food is phenomenal, do yourself a favor and have a stop in- youll fall in love
