Ive been to this place several times and this my first review. In the last 3 years or so Ive been spending a lot of time in the city of brotherly love, I like Philly! Its like a new city, but its becoming more and more familiar with each visit. Most of the places Ive frequented have been bars (reviews to come) but Ive decided to step up my food game down there. So with that said this is what you should know about Silk City. Its cool place to eat and drink. One side houses the diner, with a huge outdoor patio space and bar, the other side houses the spacious eclectic bar with dance floor. There are a limited number of tables to dine inside the bar if the diner is crowded, which are removed after 11 PM I think. Come early, no issues with a table. Come later you could have a 15 minute cue for a booth or a counter space. The food wont win any awards, but its good. On my last visit, I had the chicken sandwich, without the bread. Im trying to remove bread from diet. Ive been successful so far. My GF had the salmon and a side of asparagus. Both dishes were good. I dont eat salmon, but I sampled hers, you know for review purposes. It was flavorful and tender. My chicken started out a bit tough, but it got better. We cleaned our plates! There are a number of items on the menu skewing to American cuisine, comfort food. I havent had everything on the menu obviously, but what Ive had Ive been pleased. The prices are reasonable. Our dinner was around $32 w/out tip, but included a brew ($5) for me and ginger beer ($3) for her. We did not have appetizers or dessert. Come late, eat then head over to the bar and have some drinks and dance. They have DJs throughout the week especially on the weekends. The music is good and danceable. The drinks top out at $6 for a mixed well drink and $5 for most of the beer on tap and bottles. If you get the local favorite, Yeungling then its $3. Or you could walk a few blocks around the corner and stop in the 700 Club. One fork for the food, one fork for the service, one fork for the eclectic vibe, one fork for the bar/dance floor next door. 4 forks, Recommended! If you should find yourself in NoLib, you should try this place for sure!

Silk City is a very amazing place. It is a diner on one side and a mini nightclub on the other side. Both sides serve alcohol, so if you can’t stand walking through a bunch of people across the dance floor at the club, you can always order your drinks at the diner. The venue is pretty old, so it’s not that appealing. You can’t see much at night though, so it shouldn’t be a problem to come here for a good dance. I’ve already been here a few times, and I can tell there are a lot of regulars here. People seem to know the DJ(s) well, and I’ve even seen a few of the same people on different days. Also, every time I came, the dance floor was PACKED! It is usually full of people and you can’t really go anywhere far into the dance floor. Silk City plays hip-hop music, or what my friend likes to call it, “swag music.” It isn’t the mainstream music that most clubs play, so you probably won’t hear the uppity house music that’s playing everywhere. You will hear old school songs, and some of them can even make you hype because you would be so excited to hear that song being played since you haven’t heard for a while. This is what makes this place pretty awesome; I can get away from mainstream and go back to the music I use to love at clubs. Warning: The lounge gets super packed on weekend nights starting Thursday! The ventilation also sucks; therefore, you will be hot and you will be drenched in sweat. Pros: Music, Diner next door Cons: So hot, so crowded

My rating is the average between the bar (nightlife) and the diner (brunch). Brunch is an obvious 4-5 stars, excellent food, mildly subpar service because of the unattentive hipster/yuppie staff. Nightlife is pretty much horrible, I hated coming here when I was in college and it hasnt changed very much. They overcrowd the place, and the crowd itself is made up of inner-city-wannabe suburbanites. If you come here for brunch, however, while stepping around the hungover people who were there the night before, too, you can enjoy yourself chicken fried steak, salmon eggs benedict, and lots of other types of american fare youd expect. Its cooked very well, but Im not sure you could take your parents or even a date here. This is not a try-hard place, and the staff absolutely will not try hard, because they are hungover just like half of their patrons. If you have to wait a few minutes for someone to arrive they wont seat you and ask you to go to the bar, if the bar is full they wont let you sit anywhere and will be standoffish if all you order is water and even tip. Pretty rude. tl;dr, come here for the breakfast food, not the service or the bar.

Our party of four checked out Silk City during Lunch. Its a neat place, the outdoor seating is a nice option, (like a backyard party in the city) inside the old diningcar, a splash of odd decor (a shelf lined with old bev.cans, a huge spider in a glass box, neat knicknacs) it was clean but a little dated,(besides the theme), inside theres booths for 4, or stools at the counter/bar for larger groups. friendly staff. Hunters *Grilled chicken sandwich was awesome! Zach enjoyed his Angus burger, the pickled onion gave it a dif taste then just a burger, Briannas Fried Chicken & waffles w Chipotle and syrup was bit weird for us, but she was happy with it. My Grilled Cheese was ok- made w thick bread, which kind of overshadowed the cheese for me, but a great choice foe bread lovers. They serve a ton of fries w the sandwiches. Id definitively go back for the grilled chicken sandwich (combination of spinach, prosciutto, basil peso, omg!) The *Thai wings were very good, so was the *mac&cheese.. both are worthy to order again.. we will be back :)

I went to this place b/c I had seen the tv ads and wanted to check it out. I went to the weekend brunch and ordered something rather big - they have small options at normal breakfast price and then some other things that are a few dollars extra. I got a very upscale version of fried chicken and waffles for $12. it was AMAZING. I took one bite and began acting like a rabid 6 year old, eating everything in site. For $12 i got three chicken thighs (boneless) and 3/4 of a belgian waffle - easily enough for 2. Because it was so good, I ate long after I shouldve stopped and spent the next 30 minutes worrying about throwing up. I have NO REGRETS. My wife got the Silk City Scramble which is eggs with a bunch of latin ingredients - similarly awesome. I will definitely be going back here at some point.

I absolutely love this place. Great staff & amazing chefs. . They pretty much allowed me to build my angus burger up whatever I wanted. . I felt like a kid in a candy store .. had so many topping on my burger & it was delicious. They know how to st the mood with the dim red light. . Great for couples.. the night club looked fun (Ill check it out another day) the outdoor bar also looks life a night chill.. was easy to find parking direct across the str on a Friday night. .i didnt drink but my company said her drink was "stiff".. they serve healthy portions of food. Plenty to take home. . I like how diverse the menu is. You can have anything from steak and potatoes to Chicken and Waffles 2 shrimp and grits. I really enjoy myself and will recommend this place to family and friends.
