The sandwiches are good, but they heat them up with all the ingredients. The tomatoes are like hidden lava chambers even after reasonable time that would allow it to cool to a safe temperature for consumption. (Not the first time Ive been burned by their sandwiches.) This is a tort waiting to happen. I only write this because three days later, Im still having a hard time eating. the burns on the top of my mouth are a constant reminder of my mistake and their negligence. I would recommend patrons to give themselves extra time to let the sandwich cool down. open it up and watch the steam rise, and be thankful your mouth wasnt destroyed. Then wait an additional 15 min. Or ask if they could remove the tomatoes prior to reheating. However, I doubt all the staff would happily comply. I asked the cashier about an item and he said "its what the menu says." Great up-sale potential.

The best bread in Philly. If youre looking for sandwich bread they got it. Homemade matzoh, check. The most decadent bread ever... chocolate cherry bread, can only be bought here. Everything is baked fresh including muffins that will make your mouth water, pies, brownies and cakes. They also sell jams, sauces, cheese, and coffee so you can wake up when youre buying chocolate cherry bread on weekend mornings for french toast. It makes the best french toast ever!

Metropolitan bakes fresh, delicious bread and delectable desserts daily. They also feature great speads, as well as coffee and tea. Great friendly service. I am a huge fan of their Sourdough bread, bagette, as well as their dog treats and challah (go there early on Friday, before they are sold out, which they always are ). Metropolitan really is A Philly institution for the foodies.

There is a bakery, and a little cafe next door with coffee, baked goods, and sandwiches. I love the muffins there, and a mocha is just the thing on a chilly fall day. One of my favorite bakeries in Philly. The cafe is quiet and small with some tables and some counter seats, and is a great place to sit and read or catch up with a friend or go on a coffee date.

Really nice for basic soups, sandwiches, and salads but at a high quality level. It does get very crowded at lunch, so I recommend scoping out seating before you order. The food is worth it to wait a bit for a seat. My only complaint is that the ventilation isnt great. Its a small space, and I ended up smelling like a grill for the rest of the day.

The place was full that is true but... a toasted bread and a croissant took more than 30 min to arrive to our table!! Incredible for a place that looks so experienced, with at least 8 people working behind the bar and where most of the products are already precooked. Very bad organization.

Recently visited to pick up a few pastries and muffins for a family breakfast. Everything purchased was delicious and received rave reviews from those enjoying the baked goods. I definitely plan to return in the near future to treat myself on the weekend to another pastry (or two!).

A tiny little bakery with not a wide range of options but the things they have are great. I believe they produce everything themselves, they even sell proper bread. The service is a bit slow but the people are nice. Their coffee is also good, and they also have Italian espresso.

Gosh, I love this place. I could get lost in it devouring all the wonderful breads and pastries. I love the coffee and the wonderful service from the workers. You can tell the bakery items are made with love. Nothing ever tastes rushed, hurried or half-assed.

Great place for european style bread and rolls. They also have a huge variety of other stuff, very delicious is the smoked salmon spread and the lemon bar makes a great desert.

Staff is pleasant in a questioning way. 4 varieties of granola are all tasty. Brunch at the cafe restaurant was nicely plated and quickly served. Crowded on Sunday mornings.

This is the only place I know of outside New York that sells kouign-amanns (sweet croissant-like pastry) and they are delicious. I only wish theyd sell them on weekdays too.

Nice bakery. More of a lunch spot than a true bakery. Done baked goods bit heavier emphasis on foods and sandwiches. Food was good though. Great outdoor seating.

Love this place for a quick cup of coffee and a baked good. The cafe is too tight for me, but the outdoor seating is nice. Fantastic coffee. Food & Drink:

Great food and pastries. The extra dollar for soy milk is a bit much. Soy milk is a substitution not an addition and it us cheaper than cows milk.

My to-go place for anything bread, if I am willing to hoof it for a number of blocks. The miche and french baguette are my favorite picks.
