I go to Gold Standard several times per month and this is my consistent experience: Sit-down service is *EXTREMELY* slow, and not because the staff isnt trying, but because they are understaffed - especially if you sit outside. Our server is always running around and trying hard, but cant keep up. Last week, lunch took 2 hours for an iced coffee and 2 entrees. Counter service for coffee drinks is much faster, unless there is a line. The coffee is pretty good, and so are the pastries and cakes. A breakfast sandwich to-go is your best bet. The food is OK and overpriced for what you get. My last BLT + avocado had brown avocado. My wife had the shrimp salad for $9: 3 shrimp over grilled cauliflower, carrot, and zucchini - not what we were expecting for a salad. I typically only write positive reviews unless I have repeat bad experiences. I will never do a sit-down meal at Gold Standard again. Service is TOO SLOW. Try Fu-Wah for a roast pork or tofu banh mi or Hibiscus for a fish wrap.

I love the atmosphere and the employees but its fare to say a majority of the items are overpriced. Delicious, but expensive.. If its a hot day and you want cold brew you better go before noon because they run out often. 16oz for $3.25 and 24oz for $3.85 after tax.. pricy considering all you do is leave ground coffee in a tub for 24 hours but it is really good. There have been a few times where the cold brew tasted extra watered down specifically later in the day. Also if you can live with spending $6 for a slice of chocolate cake, do it at least once. Its REALLY good. They have two awesome happy hour specials every day from 4-6: half off burgers comes out to about $5.50 + tip.. and 5-7: dollar small coffees. Its definitely worth a check out but gets expensive when it becomes your every-day coffee shop.

As it functions as a restaurant, Ive had hit-or-miss experiences and cant really deny the other reviews Ive read. Gold Standard did however change my mind about porkchops- they are excellent here, when available. Otherwise though, I generally pass on their food - its somewhat pricey and generally disappointing. I hope they get a new chef someday soon. Regardless, I am giving five stars because they are a great cafe and I want them to know it. Staff have always been friendly and generous (i.e. letting people stay late as they are closing, opening up rear room to cold coffee-drinkers, free refills on coffee, etc). Cheaper than green line (how could it not be?) and no political baggage, long waits, or stuck-up attitude you always get at Satellite.

My sisters and brothers decided to go to Philadelhia for the weekend to celebrate my younger brothers birthday. By chance we drove by this spot. We were very glad we did. Food was awesome and the people were great. We had brunch and enjoyed every bite. In addition, the atmosphere was very relaxed and pricing reasonable. There menu includes choices for vegan and vegetarian pallets which was great as my sister is vegan and she was able to have a huge variety to chose from. At the end of our meal we were satisfied beyond expectation and truly had a great ending to our weekend stay. Thankfully I do not live very far (Jersey) and will make the drive to visit again. Two thumbs up!!!

I had eaten here a while ago and liked it well enough, but after two recent mediocre meals here I am hesitant to recommend the sit down menu. The first time, a brunch, they were out of waffle batter and the texture of the scrambled eggs was odd. The sandwiches my friends ordered were good and the fries were delicious. The second time we went for dinner. The dining room smelled of burnt food and the 3 dishes ordered were all edible but nothing we felt compelled to finish. The to go coffee and bagels are fine but nothing that would sway me to stop here over other local shops.

When every Im in West Philadelphia, and I need a internet cafe with real food, I check out the Gold Standard Cafe. The food is pretty good and the people who work there are very nice. The internet is fast, and I can get a lot of work done. Go to the back dinning room if you need to spread out - they have good size tables back there, but you will have to order food from their wait staff, so that means you have to leave a tip. I dont mind doing that since I usually spend on average four hours there. Check it out.

Horrible service! Server must have been stoned- placed order with him, he reappeared 10 minutes later to ask if we had ordered. I replied yes, waited another 30 minutes, no food, no coffee, nothing. Server was wondering aimlessly in the dining room and looking confused. Finally brought one coffee, but when i asked to confirm if he had our food order in, he said no thats why he asked to take our order (the second time). We ended up walking out, what a waste of our time.

We were in University City for 2 nights. This place was great. Within walking distance of our apartment which made it nice but the food was just incredible. At first it appeared very busy and, since there was 4 of us, we were quickly deciding to get coffee and leave. Glad we didnt. When I got to the counter the cashier asked if we wanted a table and they seated us in another room that is not seen from the front. Highly recommended.

This has become a regular weekend brunch spot for me. Occasionally they are out of something and the substitution will not be great, but as long as the kitchen is stocked, Ive never had something bad. They have a coffee shop in the front and you can get fancy coffee drinks in the dining area at the back. There is outdoor seating when the weather is nice, too. The service is usually great but occasionally they are understaffed.

Although the place was clean and neat , the food portions wasnt big enough for the price! I ordered the #6, from breakfast menu! I asked for my eggs over easy , the one was a fried hard egg, and the other was over done! Also greasy I might add ! Its nice to have a diner in the community , but I wont be going back again ! Ooh yes , I believe that since I ordered my food to go, they didnt care how they made it!

Their breakfast is fantastic and their coffee is great. Personal favorites of mine are the stuffed french toast (with Nutella, bananas, strawberries and some kind of strawberry puree or sauce) and the Ranchero Bowl (add chorizo). The bacon is mediocre but everything else Ive had there has been very good (the chicken and waffles was very good). They have indoor and outdoor seating as well.

Great food for omnivores and vegans alike. Awesome local spot for breakfast/brunch. Best place for a morning after date ...but also good in the evening for a casual first date. Ive lived in the neighborhood for many years and in the past Gold Standard has had its issues ...but the new owners have gotten it right.

Richards desserts!!! the Egg Cup with Cheddar. And Jakes peppy, witty charm. Staff is always friendly. Quiche is good too. Miss the old french-fry recipe, but food has been pretty good and standard. Back room is open during the day for local folks who need a place to study and work with a good wi-fi signal.
