As the manager of M, I feel compelled to respond to a few inaccuracies posted in two reviews. Someone wrote of our chef smoking a cigar and talking on his cell phone. No one, no one on my staff smokes, let alone a cigar. This practice is forbidden, and we would never allow it in the garden or the indoor dining room. There were many out of town guests for a wedding last week who were in festive moods, and they were the ones smoking cigars and celebrating prior to the event, not my chef. Someone else complained about our early hours. The Morris House hotel is a boutique hotel known for its tranquility. We must therefore, honor the privacy of our guests by turning out the outdoor garden lights and silencing the garden area no later than 10:00. This is only possible if our last seating is at 9:00 sharp. Our guests come to The Morris House Hotel for its serenity and peaceful setting, so it is our duty to make sure that thier experience is not compromised by late diners who might be talking under their windows in the garden. One can therefore eat indoors or in the bar area if they arrive after 9:00, which is always an option. There is a permanent elegant tent that has been constructed to accommodate the 7 weddings we are hosting the next two months, which offers a guaranteed cover if it starts to rain. So we welcome anyone who would like to still eat outdoors in our amazing garden setting to join us in the clear tent, until the chilly fall weather takes us inside to our indoor dining room and bar. Our menu offers the most affordable meal in a setting unmatched my any other in all of Philadelphia, so if you have not been, come see what we are so proud of, and enjoy a tranquil, romantic night at M.

I would like to say that I have been in the city for a few years now and never knew about "M" until I stumbled passed it one afternoon very stressed out from a hectic day at work. The wonderful woman at the door told me to go have a drink and bite to eat and unwind. I stepped inside and immediately felt as if i were back in Europe in a garden at a pension! I was completely relaxed immediately and found out it was run by family members who went out of their way for me...hearing Argentine Spanish being spoken by the staff really made it feel as if I were not in the US! What a treat, my hectic day was nothing but a faint memory. I was handed a wine and cocktail menu by my server and thought there was something on it for everyone...very appropriate for the place. I nibbled on a charcuterie plate and marinated olives while reading my book and drinking a glass of a wonderful, sicilian wine. What more could you ask for? As for the prices, by far the least expensive in that neighborhood. Now i know why most people want to keep it their hidden, little secret!

While the location is fantastic the food is sub par. Being a vegetarian while I accept a lack of options, whatever was served was appallingly poor. We started off with a uninventive Bibb lettuce salad that was poorly tossed and contained barely any cheese or dressing. It ended up with us eating just lettuce - panera has better salads than this. The second course was a mediocre medley of sauteed mushrooms. It was a bland experience with nothing out of the ordinary. The main course was a vegetarian gnocchi that did try and salvage the experience but fell flat with the uneven cooking and the lack of portion size. The dessert was average. Nothing that would make you go wow. Overall the menu and food was unimaginative, bland and disappointing - especially considering the premium $65 cost per person for the meal. Our server did not know what course we were on and seemed unenthusiastic. Home cooked food from blue apron costing $10 per person is better than this pathetic excuse .I do not anticipate returning

Amazing meal-- a really unique experience! I dined at M while staying at the Morris House Hotel. Once I saw the beautiful courtyard I knew that I had to try this restaurant so I could eat outside right in Philadelphia. ve never eaten food quite like this before. The ingredients seemed to be so fresh and each one added something to the course. The chef tasting menu is the way to go-- the portions are small, tapas-style, and the quality for the price is out of this world. The tasting menu let me try a number of the offerings, and I got to enjoy the meal in courses. The server was very knowledgeable and each course came with a concise explanation of the magic the chefs were working. Great wine list, great service, and an amazing location. I felt like I was in France until I walked out of the courtyard and was on South 8th Street. M is a must! I will be back.

I recently had the opportunity to try M Restaurant while on business in Philadelphia. I could not have had a more pleasant and enjoyable dining experience-- the food was perfect, and the service and friendly and prompt. My server took the time to give me some recommendations on entrees and wine pairings, and I have to say that the ravioli was phenomenal- I wanted to get it for dinner a 2nd night in a row! Debbie, the owner, made it a point to come introduce herself, and I was impressed by how much hard work and dedication she and her husband put into making this restaurant the gem that it is. The garden will open for meals soon, and I hope you take the time to stop by this restaurant for a meal and great ambiance- you wont be disappointed.

New tasty menu, beautiful setting, impeccable food presentation, our entrees were delicious and served timely by the ever-friendly staff, quality was well beyond expectation, and the new chef (formerly famous in NYC) came out to greet us, sharing some OMG appetizers from the kitchen. This is the ideal place for a quiet dinner with a cool nighttime breeze blowing through the restaurant courtyard (a setting that reminds one of a small town in France) - great for any special anniversary dinner, or on a larger scale, a wedding and reception. If youre a bride, check out the wedding decor books...a simply stunning look at night for afternoon or evening receptions. Bravo Debbie & Gene...

After walking through this boutique hotel on a random excursion I found the Morris House Hotel and M Restaurant to be an oasis tucked away in center city. The warm and cozy spaces of the hotel not only made me feel at home but the courtyard certainly took me out of the city environment and away from the Septa bus fumes. To my surprise I later brought a few friends to "M" for some quick bites and drinks. The empanadas were fantastic and the prices were just what I needed for my wallet. The hostess was quick to seat us and the waiter was fast on her feet to get us our drink orders. I look forward to going back, maybe even scheduling a few cliental meetings in such a great venue.
