Let me admit, we had very low expectations of the place when me and my husband decided to dine there - It was in a strip mall, there was no evident "advertising" nor any must-try reviews over the internet. But once we got there - we were taken aback by the interiors. The place was well done up - for a strip mall place, that is and that immediately caught my attention. The menu was very extensive - and the dishes ranged from the usual Tandoori chicken to some very unusual Meen moilee. I was amazed how the menu captured most regional cuisines in India - we decided not to experiment and stuck to Chicken Tikka masala and Lamb Roganjosh. It came with some fragrant basmati rice - we ordered for some naan bread as well. Ive had some of the best, non greasy Indian food back home in India (Im from the hotels background) - And I would rate this one among the best. Let me tell you - both the dishes were simply fabulous - very tasty and authentic. The naan was soft and easy to chew (naans tend to get rubbery if they are not fresh), and the rice was perfect al-dante, with a fragrant saffron flavor. The quantity was very good - with both of us having to ask for boxes. We could not resist, the next week we ordered Chicken Reshmi Kebabs and Lamb Biryani Rice for take out. Our home was filled with a delicous flavour of the spices. Yummmmy!! The taste was as if it was home-made - though I found it a wee bit hot. We also got some kheer (dessert made of semolina & milk) which was again, to die for! I highly recommend this place!! The only downside is that I personally found the place a wee bit on the higher side with an average meal for 2 for about $50-60. Guess that’s the price you pay for good eats :-)

I have eaten Indian food at many restaurants in the United States, including places in NYC. Spice offers a culinary experience which meets or surpasses any other one, even in New York, which, as we know, has the best of everything. Anyway, I loved the South Indian chicken dish, which combined the subtle flavor of coconut with cinnamon, cloves, and coriander, among other spices, to create a burst of unforgettable flavor. The waiters and owners are especially polite and always ready to answer questions or meet personal requests. One of my Indian friends asked for the chef to cook his sauce a certain way, and the waiter understood what he meant, and the food came out perfectly. People in the suburbs of Philadelphia should definitely go to Newtown Square and eat at Spice for Indian or Thai. You do not need to try Media, for example. You have the best of both cuisines here in one restaurant, as good or better than those in New York.

My girlfriend and I stumbled upon this place about a month ago and were totally impressed with the food. We both like Indian and Thai, but ordered Indian that night. The food was really good and had an excellent presentation with an enjoyable atmosphere. We spoke to the owner for a while and apparently quite a bit went into this place. He hired chefs specializing in the different types of Indian and Thai cuisines who studied successful restaurants around the country and applied the best to this place. He was very open to feedback and took a custom order from us (my g/f wanted aloo mater). We are thinking of going back this weekend for seconds. I would recommend this place to anyone. Do not go to this place and expect to pay takeout prices, but definitely do not expect takeout-quality food. Also, it is a BYO and there is(conveniently) a state store right next door.

Indian is my favorite kind of food. I travel a lot for work, and when I do, I usually hunt down a local Indian restaurant at least one of the nights, so Ive been to a lot of places by now, good and bad. I only mention these two things so that you can appreciate what I mean when I say that Spice is the best Indian restaurant Ive ever been to in my life. We first sat down and ordered a few appetizers: chat, samosas, and lamb kabobs. All of them were delicious, residing squarely at the high end of Indian cuisine. But the main course is what really knocked our socks off. My lamb korma was the best Ive ever had, and Ive had a lot, and my friends tandoor rack of lamb changed my entire worldview with regard to tandoori. Do not hesitate to try out Spice. You wont regret it, and Im sure youll be back. I know I will!

This is my third and last review for this restaurant - this place has gone to the dumps. The food has gotten so bad, you could as well as go to any other Indian Restaurant and pay much lesser. ----------- I had to change my review. We went to this restaurant a couple of times, and the quality of the food is deteriorating. The main dishes including Jalfrezi no longer tastes good. As for ambience, most of the waiters working here tend to "stare" at women. It is very uncomfortable when you have to walk past them to get to the restroom. I would rate this place average. ------ ****Reviewed Jan 12 2009**** We ordered for Vegtable Jalfrezi and the bread basket, and it is one of the best I have eaten around here. My husband and I absolutely loved the ambience and the interiors.

I usually come here once a week, since I work five minutes away. Dine in experience has been positive, except for once, when service was very slow for no apparent reason, since there wasnt a huge lunch crowd. Love the lunch specials with the option of soup and appetizer. I loved their chicken korma and had it when I was dining in, so I decided to get takeout once, and was disappointed because it did not come with the delicious Indian bread or the shredded lettuce that were accompanied with the course when I ate there. Bottom line, I got four pieces of chicken with rice for $9.50. Another thing that bothers me is that I always find my takeout orders without any plastic utensils or napkins. Other than that, I enjoy dining there, and do love the food.

Appetizers: Vegetable Samosa was OK, on par with most places. Onion Bhaji was bland - almost as if they forgot to put the spices in. Main Course: Benghan Bharta (Eggplant) - orange in color (always a bad sign; it should be golden/brown). Taste was below average. As with most Indian places in area, portion was way too big (not a problem for me if the food is good). Wife had Vegetable Biryani; ordered it "extra spicy", but it was served mild. Also, served without sauce, why? Most places give you the sauce with your biryani. Spice has a much nicer decor and ambience than most Indian restaurants in area; however the food is a big let down. Also for a restaurant called "Spice", they seem reluctant to use any. ** (of 5)

This place looks great, is worth taking a bottle of wine to. Most of the items we ordered were good. We keep going back and the quality holds. Pricing is higher than other restaurants but its not over the top considering the food, ambiance and service (the service could be a tad better than it is). The restaurant is almost a 35 min drive from my house but I would rather eat at home than go to another Indian restaurant in the suburbs. Update: Its not consistently good anymore. I need more meat in the curry than they serve. Its not enough food for the price. Sometimes the food is salty.
