Summary: Above-average rum selection, average food, below-average service. Unless youre a rum aficionado, there are plenty of better options available for dinner and drinks. My wife and I walked in on a Saturday night around 10 PM, seated ourselves at a hightop in the bar area. Didnt seem like too busy of a night, plenty of open seats. After sitting there for about five minutes, our waitress finally came around. She serviced the table on our right, then walked around us and serviced the table to the left, then walked away without acknowledging us. She came back two minutes later to put some menus at the server station nearby and clean up a little bit, then walked away again without acknowledging us. She came back two minutes later with water for the table to our left, and then walked away again without acknowledging us. So at this point, we decided wed have better fortunes sitting right at the bar instead of having to notify the waitress of our existence. The first bartender was pleasant enough in greeting us and giving us menus and water. I ordered a flight of aged premium rums, which was promptly served with explanatory cards for each rum. Surprised that the bartender didnt give a brief summary of each rum--standard practice at most specialized bars--but not bothered, as I know my way around rum pretty well. We ordered some fresh guac with shrimp and queso fresco added on, which was--again--served promptly. Portion size was smaller than comparable restaurants (El Vez, Xochitl, etc.), and while we could faintly taste shrimp in some bites, we had trouble finding more than a few tiny shreds of shrimp in the entire portion. At this point, some folks came over to the edge of the bar and started chatting and joking around with the bartender; we eventually figured out that they were employees not currently on duty. All well and good, except that from this point on, the bartender spent the majority of her time socializing with them, at the expense of us and the other patrons. Luckily, another bartender showed up and was very helpful. She recommended the sweet potato donuts to us for dessert, and they didnt disappoint. Great flavor, great texture, and a larger-than-expected portion. When we were done, however, it took a while to get the bill, and it took even longer for them to finally take my card and run it--again, because the bartender was too busy talking to the folks at the end of the bar to notice that we were ready to go. All in all, this is a great place to go if you want to sample some top-shelf rums. Outside of that, there are far better local options for Latin/Caribbean food where the staff actually like people. Cantina Laredo, Bahama Breeze, and Plaza Azteca in KoP; Buhos in Phoenixville; Filet of Soul in Downingtown. All places with good food and equally good service.

Miscommunication Galore! I went with 3 coworkers to this place for lunch. They have lunch specials with one being a pork panini with a side soup or salad. One person in our party cant eat pork so we inquired if we could swap out the El Cubano Sandwich with the Chimichurri Chicken Sandwich (minus the bacon). The waiter said he would have to ask the kitchen. Waiter comes back and said they cant do that because the sandwiches are premade (huh). It was obvious that he thought we were asking the kitchen to remove the pork from the sandwich and replace it with chicken, which we were not requesting that so I tried to explain it again and he just wasnt understanding the question. Finally, coworker ended up ordering the chicken tacos. Lunch was decent even though the sandwiches were premade. When we requested the bill, the manager brought it to us and said I heard you wanted the kitchen to switch out the meat in the panini but they cant do it because the sandwiches are premade . I told the manager that waiter did not understand the request. Our request was to change the sandwich in the combo special from the Cubana (pork) to the Chicken sandwich since they were the same price. The manager got it after we explained it to him the correct way. I imagine that the waiter could not understand the request (even though its a very common request) and conveyed it to both the kitchen staff and the manager the wrong way so the manager came to our table misinformed. The place is beautiful but would I go back there? No... because not only did the waiter tell me the sandwiches were premade but so did the manager. The food wasnt good enough and the staff wasnt acknowledged enough to warrant another visit

I had high hopes for this restaurant. We waited 30 minutes for a server to greet us. When she did she stated she wasnt sure if she was our server but would help us anyway. We should have left then. We put our drink orders in and were also ready to put our food orders in, but the server said she wanted to put the drinks in first. The only positive part of our meal were the beverages, they were delicious. We ordered our meal we both got the tacos and the house salad. After another lengthy wait the salads finally came out. We did not have silverware so the runner said she would bring some for us, she never returned. I finally got up and asked the bar for 2 sets. When our food finally came I made sure to ask for the check right away. Both our meals were cold, and were lacking in flavor, especially for the price, I expected more. This is very disappointing because I really wanted to like this place. I ignored the other negative reviews and hoped it was just an isolated incident. Its not.... there were many other unhappy tables around us that evening. We will definitely not be returning any time soon.

We were here for KOPs restaurant week. Service was great. Waitress was very friendly and attentive, but not overly so. Drinks are delicious. Had the charred pineapple caiparinha. Mussels had a nice sauce. Jerk chicken skewers were cooked well but needed more jerk seasoning. Our entrees were good and filling. We had the glazed pork and the bearded beef. The churros were overdone with a weird chocolate sauce. The bread pudding was very tasty. Overall, a nice experience. Some dishes could have been better with some minor adjustments. Will come back for the cheesy bread and drinks.

Stopped in Friday night (8/11/17) for happy hour. Wanted to sit outside but were told the happy hour specials were not available there??? Once inside, took 15 minutes to place our drink order. Ordered 3 apps and 2 came. Asked the waitress about the 3rd and she said it was almost ready. It was just the guac special, so it was actually forgotten and given to another customer. The waitress made no contact with us for over 30 minutes. By that time, all we wanted was the check and to get out of there. Management needs to do some additional training. Just an awful experience.

Incredibly disappointing. Expect to pay double what you should, for food that has less than half of the quality/flavor youd expect. $18+ for a guac trio that was incredibly underwhelming. It was flavorless and disgusting. We couldnt even finish it. Chips had been fried hours prior to being served and were a bit soggy. Total bill for two drinks and guac was $40. I have no problem paying top dollar for good food, but this was just pathetic. Please learn from my mistake and dont waste your time or money.
