Delicious Mexican food and cheap prices make this an excellent place to eat in or take out, and a great alternative to gross fast-food. The place only has capacity for maybe 15 people, but its never been busy when Ive been there. The food is fresh and delicious and prepared quickly. The salsa is spicy! If you ask for mild salsa theyll tell you they dont have any! Definitely get salsa on the side if spice is not your forte. This place makes the freshest and most delicious Mexican food Ive ever had.

This is my favorite restaurant. I usually eat here once or twice a week (one of my friends ate here six times last week!). Quesadillas, burritos, and tacos are awesome. This is Mexican food, not Americanized, Tex-Mex. Mexicans eat here. The sauces can be very hot. I have found that the heat varies. I think this is because they use fresh ingredients and fresh ingredients are not consistent. This place is worth a trip from far away.

I had the Cuban torta and it was to DIE for!! The torta itself was amazing, soft and delicious. The ingredients were fresh and flavorful. I never had anything like it and I couldnt put it down. It was such a a treat, worth the 40 minute drive. Its huge, two people could share. If I didnt stop at Northbrook for cider donuts beforehand it wouldnt have survived. It made a great dinner though, reheated heaven.

I absolutely love the pastor tacos at La Pena and eat them at least twice a week! I have eaten tacos at several other restaurants/trucks/gas stations in the area and La Pena has the best meats by far. At La Pena Im always greeted with a smile and "Hey! How are you! Nice to see you! Welcome!" I love the people just as much as the tacos.

This is hands down the best and most authentic Mexican Restaurant in this area. The owner greets you with, "Hello my friend!" When you come in and the staff is always friendly and attentive. The place is small but cozy. Its honestly the best place ever IMO Oh, BTW, the red salsa is actually hit, so if sensitive, watch out.

The server is a douchebag, gives short answers, food is "ok", but mainly the server is a tool. Do yourself and your family a favor, eat at a good Mexican restaurant where they dont hire tools. Also, Im pretty sure all of these other "reviews" are fake, if the rating system would allow it I would give this place a -5.

If you want authentic mexican this is the place! While the decor may not do much for the eyes the food will supplement. I personally love la pescado de diabla, but any staple will amaze with large tortas, incredible sopes, ,tacos, just name it!

Awesome place for Mexican takeout. Friendly staff. My only criticism is that the food isnt always consistent. Weve ordered the same thing on different occasions and its been excellent every times, but not the same ingredients/recipe.

They have the best food and some options that interesting and very authentic! You have your choice of varying degrees of hotness. The inside is tiny but hey welcome you right in and the workers are super helpful and friendly!

This is authentic Mexican cuisine. This restaurant was highly recommended and it did not disappoint. The service was excellent and the staff was so friendly. The food was excellent and we plan to go back. Bring cash for a tip.
