The food is delicious at Jackson house, but if you dont call in ahead of time, expect to wait for extended periods of time, in line, in the small narrow restaurant. The rolls are fresh and absolutely wonderful, burgers are big and juicy. The subs are generous with meat and cheese, and rarely dissapoint. Good luck calling ahead, though..they have one phone line and there is such a volume of calls that the line can be busy for (literally) hours. The length of the list of "rules" on their menu can be surprising. "we suggest you call early", "all phone orders will be bagged to go, no exceptions" "the dining room is for walk in customers!" and more. After years of eating there, the staff recognizes me, and I will not stop going to the Jackson House, Im used to the way you need to order, and the "rules" by now..but it may annoy someone new.

This place does not have phone number that you can get through to order take out. So our office sent someone over to order in person and they refused the order telling us to call. We tried to explain that we couldnt get through from 8:00 to 10:30 and they still refused the order. This is not the first rude encounter we have experienced with this establishment. Also, they have gotten our order wrong on several occasions. The quality of meat has also declined in the past year. The owners are ungrateful and rude to their customers. If you go there personally you are subjected to their extreme political views as well. Not worth it.

A little hole-in-the-wall of a burger joint. You dont go there for the beer (there is none), you dont go there to socialize (think the Soup-Nazi of grilled sandwiches), and most dont go there for the ambience (call it cramped or cozy, full of historic charm or a little run down, a destination restaurant or off the beaten path -- its something of an acquired taste). You go here for the made-to-order sandwiches: the burgers in particular, or if youre in more of a hurry, the Philly-style steak. An order of peanut oil, fresh-cut fries and perhaps a vanilla-syrup infused Coke round out a visit to burger heaven.

Jackson burger hit the spot. Its the kind of burger you know you shouldnt eat (greasy, cheesy, bacony) but when you finish you have to battle your mind and gut to walk away and not order a second one. Harrisburgs best kept secret. Notes: cash only, closes at 1:45pm, call ahead early for large orders, they do not take walk-in large orders, be prepared to wait 10 or more mins for a burger.

Best burger Ive had anywhere in the country! The Jackson is a must have.... the subs are great also. Its the one dive restaurant I try to take all my friends and family that visit to. Only open for lunch Monday through Friday..... no dinner, no weekends.... get there closer to 11 and you wont have to wait in line long, by noon the place is packed, but still worth the wait!

The best burgers and subs Ive ever had. Thats why the line is typically out the door by 11:45. They are busy and need to move so they expect you to have your poop together (ala the Soup Nazi.) Show up with cash be be ready to order when its your turn and there will be no problems. Most of the complaints are because not everyone is able to do this.

I always enjoy the Jackson house. The food is somewhat different from the generic norm. Very Italian flavor (e.g. genoa salami, prosciutto, stuffed peppers) but has staples as well (burgers, cheese steaks, and fries) More than enough variety. And everything is above par. Small location and only open for lunch so get in when you can. CASH ONLY!

Best subs, cheesesteak I have found in Harrisburg. Posting this review mainly to say that the negative review by Seth Adams is incredibly off. The burger is the most juicy, greasy, delicious concoction I have had. I can only assume he did not actually eat at this restaurant to post a review like that.

A little taste of South Philly and the Bronx in mid-town Harrisburg. There is something on the menu for everyone. Craving a burger? The Jackson House has been voted best burger in central PA numerous years. A burger not your thing, there are plenty of salads and sandwiches to satisfy your craving.

While this place may be a little hole in the wall shop, dont be discouraged from trying their incredible food. These guys are from South Philly and they mean business. Everyone I know that has eaten here will agree that theyve got the best burger youve ever tried.

Ive been twice. It is a MUST stop on my way through town. It is not too far off of I-85 (a few miles). I live in NC and highly recommend this hole in the wall. It is inexpensive and good food. It is all about the freshest ingredients and the bread.

The wait was no longer than 10 min. The service was great. The burger was the best my wife and I have had in a long time. For just a few bucks more than some fast food chain garbage and youre in the area, its the place to go.

To go here you must know the rules of going here so go with someone that has gone before you. Once you know the rules youre in for a treat! Best burgers and cheesesteaks in town. Wish they were open for dinner!!!

Food here is EXCELLENT...its a shame they are only open during the week. The Grilled Veggie Salad and the Pittsburgh Steak Salad are two items that shouldnt go unnoticed. Their burgers are the BEST in the city!

Terrible, dry, overrated burgers. Really? People think this is the best in Harrisburg? Ridiculous. Do yourself a favor and go to ABC instead
