I visited Mesa a few weeks ago in January. I was extremely disappointed in the food. I went with my foodie boyfriend who is a big fan of mexican. The service was fine; attentive, courteous and knowledgable. The salsa was not well balanced, too much lime juice. Still, not too bad. Then we ordered the filet mignon skewers and the beet salad as appetizers. The filet was flavorless and, quite frankly, the meat tasted like it had passed its point of optimal freshness. We left half the appetizer on the plate. The arrugala, grapefruit and beet salad was a nice idea, but poorly executed. The beets werent diced as the menu described -- instead, huge beet cubes formed the foundation to this salad. I would have preferred it if the beets had been finely sliced. It seems grapefruit is an endangered species at Mesa -- there were a mere two sections of grapefruit atop a huge salad. Im not sure why grapefruit was featured in the name of the dish. It was very disappointing, especially because we had such high expectations of the salad. We also ordered cilantro rice, beans, the pork tacos and the fish tacos. Both tacos were very disappointing. The mahi mahi consisted of tiny chips of fish and bloodline, breaded and fried. The sauce was overly sweet. The pork tacos were also lackluster. The beans were fine, no complaints there. The rice had a texture and taste of rice which has sat in a steam tray for too long. Otherwise, the flavor was ok. By the end of the meal we realized, that while the salsa tasted more like a seviche broth than a salsa, it was the best part of the meal. We did not indulge in any cocktails during our visit, maybe this new spot has a shot as a bar, but regardless, I will not visit Mesa again.

I cant even say the service was great. Cant even say food was great. Its a shame I have to give them one star to review, there should be a dislike option. My experience the two times that, me and one more guest tried to eat there, we werent welcome. The first time my fiancee and I, went there and we werent aloud to enter for their lounge hour, because some guy told us we werent dressed properly....we didnt know it was a formal ball dance, so we left. I had no patience to stand there and argue with nobody. Second time it was my daughter and I, we entered the restaurant and the hostess said they were full, and they had no tables open. I asked if we could seat outside, since there were more than two open tables, she said all the tables were reserved. As we were walking away from the hostess, I overheard a lady said, "I cant believe, they just denied service to them" Well guess Im not taking all this in a bad way. For everyone else that had a great time there, hope none of this happens to you!!

Last Friday on July 9th between 5:30 and 6:30pm, my husband and I decided to have dinner at Mesa. However, we were seated outside and were not helped for at least 15 minutes. I went inside and told a worker that no one had been outside to serve us and she said that she would send someone out to help us, and still, no one came after ANOTHER 15 minutes of waiting. So my husband and I decided to get up and leave. I have never had this problem at Mesa before, but during the other few times that I have gone, there was a different staff working. I am an African American woman and my husband is African American as well, and we felt a very unpleasant vibe from your employees that night. Clearly, you had a very racist staff working that night, and obviously Mesa is a very racist establishment. Very unfortunate, because the food is decent. I will never step foot in this restaurant again and I plan on telling my family and friends about this horrible establishment. I am absolutely appalled.

Was one of my favored places down town but not so much any Moore, service was seriously lacking the last few times I was theres, three of us to the table, and we ordered a margarita pitcher, the waiter came over some good time later to take food order, we told him we never got out pitcher, he came back and said no one ever ordered one, my friend had the receipt from the bar showing he went to the bar and ordered one, then another 15 later he brings the pitcher with only 2 glasses?? The wait staff was making it very difficult to get their attention, so finally I waved him down and ordered a different drink but it wasnt made right, (drank it anyway) someone in a backwards fitted sports hat brought out our guacamole and it was like pulling teeth to get chips!! Like wtf can I get some dam chips, and the hole time the server was rolling his eyes, huffing and puffing because we asked for some god dam chips for our guac !!

As a huge fan of Mexican food, I had high hopes for Mesa. I was pretty let down after going. The atmosphere of the restaurant itself was nice, a mix of cozy and modern, but that is probably my only compliment. The food was okay. Not horrible, but definitely not great. Homemade guacamole was the best part, except that it was so ridiculously overpriced like EVERYTHING on the menu. Im no stranger to upscale dining, but the cost versus the quality was very unbalanced. Dinner for two? Expect to leave unsatisfied and possibly still hungry, and receive a bill for $70 or more. Didnt even get drinks. Add incredibly slow service to all this: waited about an hour for the not so great food, and again for half an hour after asking for the check. Let me point out that less than half the tables were occupied. All in all, Mesa has been put firmly on my wont go again list.

First, got seated at a cramped table set too close to others. Moved to the bar. Watched two other couples that sat at the bar after us get their chips and salsa before us. First round of margaritas was good, second round was aweful. Had to send them back. Main meal came out before our appetizers (appetizer order was placed 10 Minutes before entrees) was told it was parents weekend and they were busy, this is why our meal was out of order. Watched our entrees sit out while we waited for our appetizers. Wondered if our meal was just going to be microwaved and sent back out. Bar tender was apologetic, as well as manager. They did refund margaritas and give us appies for free. But overall experience was poor .... Advice: Ditch the "atmosphere" and hipster vibe and go down the road to LaPerla and get real home made Mexican.

My family and I just finished the Crayola experience and wanted to grab a close dinner as we were a little far from home. The whole experience at this restaurant topped our day. The service from the hostess to the amazing waiter was top notch. Even the manager returned before and after we received our food to see how we were doing. The food was out of this world. With every bite your taste buds were screaming for more. Complements to the chef and crew for the one of the best meals Ive had including the presentation. Even my daughters kids meal was adorable and delicious. Thank you for topping our family day out. I will recommend and be visiting again.
