Kyoto is a Japanese Hibachi restaurant in Clarks Summit, PA which has the reputation of providing great service and exceptional food. While the latter may still be true, the former is certainly not. We arrived at 6:30PM on Sunday, February 10th. When we entered, we were standing with several other people, all of whom were looking around for the host or hostess. After a minute or so, an obviously frazzled woman in her mid 60s, ran behind the host table and just started yelling "Reservations?! Anyone here with a reservation?!" Not having received any greeting, we waited a few moments for the hostess to gather her composure and said hello. The hostess, without looking up from her reservation book said "Do you have a reservation?" We replied no and she told us there was "No Hibachi tables available." After waiting for her suggestion on what was available, and not receiving any, I asked if that was for the entire night. She looked at us for the first time and said, exasperated, "Oh, I dont know. It could be 45 minutes to an hour." My wife and I were planning to sit at the bar, so we said that would be fine. She looked at me and said "Are you serious?" And I confirmed my statement. She took our name and never said another word to us the entire evening. The bartender was just as crass, rude, and non-service oriented as the hostess. She was a hard-looking, mid-forties woman with short blond hair and several tattoos. She totally ignored our presence for 15 minutes, while refilling drinks and emptying ashtrays, and stopping for a smoke break and speaking at length with one patron. When she did finally take our drink orders, we asked for a menu so we could order a sushi appetizer while we waited. She returned with our drinks and took our money but did not hand us any menus. When she returned with our change I politely reminded her about the menus. "Hey Babe, Im busy. Ill get them to you," was her reply. We eventually got our menus three-minutes later. After waiting another 15 minutes, and 10 of those minutes with empty glasses (We had chosen our appetizer and closed our menus within two-minutes), the bartender finally came back and said "so what do you want", with obvious annoyance in her voice. We had enough. We said "Nothing, thank you." and left. I called to talk to the manager about our experience on Tuesday evening (They are closed Mondays), and the manager just said "We were busy that night." At no point did we receive an apology or any request to come back and give them another chance. I am not likely to return to Kyoto. And they seem to care less than I do about it.

Since I cant edit or change it ... please read my entire review ... I will NOT be back to Kyoto :( FIRST REVIEW ... Phenomenal restaurant! Weve been eating here regularly since moving to the area a little over a year ago. Great atmosphere, great food, great in every respect! We normally eat only organic foods & this is one of the FEW places that doesnt leave us feeling bloated & stuffed, like we ate food loaded with GMOs & preservatives, then wanting to sleep when we get home. Id rate at 10 stars if I could!! SECOND REVIEW: Okay Im editing what I said. The last 3 times we were here ... we were NOT happy at all & have not been back since. We were regular customers & they knew us. We were always seated in our normal place or nearby. Our food was good but not consistently wonderful like it had been ... & it was obviously rushed. It was not as good as it has been. And ... the sushi was NOT what it should be ... but then again the normal sushi guy was NOT present so NO fault to him as he ALWAYS gave us great sushi! We noticed that there was a continuous change of staff. And we always returned. Kyoto needs to step things up as we wont be returning until things are consistent. Im done wondering what Im ordering now. This is NOT what were paying for & we will NOT be back

Kyoto was very nice inside but had terrible service. I clearly saw the guy drop my meal on the floor and he still tried to serve it to me. There were kids running around and screaming. The thing that really got me mad was The waiter spilled a drink all over me and never tried to clean it up or say sorry he just walked away stareing akwardly. That was a new white shirt ruined that I could never wear again. After I was done eating ready to leave the guy working at another table flicked a shrimp that hit me right in the eye. Kyoto was the worst restaurant I ever went to

The service was bar none. The itamae was extremely friendly and attentive to my likes and dislikes. He made sure everything was the way I liked it, even asking if I needed another drink. The fish was superb quality. Very fresh and beautifully cut. The owner, Mike, made sure I left satisfied and felt very welcome. Wait staff, even if they were not my server, asked if everything was okay and if I needed anything else. This is the way a restaurant should be run. I havent been here in 10 years but this will be my new go-to for sure!

We have been here several times and tonight was the worst experience ever. Granted there were a lot of other guests but not all the tables were filled. After we ordered and got our salad and sushi, we waited for over 30 minutes for our hibatchi dinners to come. Before they came out another waiter brought us salads.....which we already had them 30 minutes earlier. When we got out dinners my boyfriends was incorrect and mine was luke warm. Luckily for Kyoto everything tasted good otherwise it would be a 1 star rating.

Very nice people run this place. I read another review...maybe they dont understand Asian culture...not know for being chit chatty. Best salad dressing anywhere...true authentic ginger dressing recipe!! Not that sugary stuff others try to pass off. The habachi chef was amazing we had. Flipping his injectable and spatula...then crazy egg tricks. We love Osaka...and think the sushi chefs are good. We dont mind that they dont talk a whole lot...besides the fact they speak little English...they are very busy!

We stopped in after a day of skiing at Elk. The place smelled great from the hibachi tables but we decided on sushi. The sushi rolls were good, nothing spectacular but met our expectations. The service was prompt and courteous. The bathroom was very clean which is important to me as an indicator of overall cleanliness. The size and lighting made it feel like a comfortable place to be. I would go back.

The sushi at this establishment was fairly good, and well presented. However, there was very little interaction with the preparers and the patrons, even when sitting at the sushi bar itself. When paying (with cash) the waitress asked in a some what rude manner if I needed change. I had counted out money to cover the bill and tip, so I said no, but it felt like she was fishing for tips.

This is the best place ever. The service is amazing. The food is beyond amazing. The quality of the staff is high. The only issue is that so many folks want to eat there, from time to time there is a wait for a seat. The staff does their best to give their best service and move the services along at a reasonable pace. Best steak Ive ever had.
