Entirely disappointing. We had reservations on a Thursday night and despite being barely half full we were seated at a small table next to the entrance to the restrooms. They apparently forgot we were there and after about 20 minutes we flagged down one of the servers in the wine bar next door to at least order a few drinks. The service was pathetic at best and to top it off our server looked like she was fighting a severe flu. How do you politely tell someone they need to go home? She refilled our wine by picking the glasses up by the bowl, a rookie mistake perhaps but she was sick! If she appeared healthy I would still have been a bit put off by that one, but in her current state I was now concerned I was going to end up with a virus. My wife ordered the steak, perhaps not the best choice at a seafood restaurant, but they were out of half the fish on the menu and the meat of the day had just been substituted (same preparation of course, but pork just became duck). Ordered rare, served up medium with burnt onions, unrecognizable mushrooms and a huge pat of butter on top. She wasnt impressed. I opted for the dover sole from the fish of the day board and it was borderline inedible. I like salt, my wife is a chef and she uses it liberally but this was ridiculous. The brussels sprouts were shaved and mixed with mayonnaise in a weird coleslaw preparation that was also salted beyond belief. I passed a few bites to my wife just to see her reaction. To be fair, one person in our party enjoyed her scallops so it wasnt a complete miss. As a consolation for forgetting we were there our server insisted we have a free dessert. We each declined but she brought one anyway. We sampled, against our better judgement at this point, and sadly our expectations were affirmed. I see why they were giving it away. We recently moved to Portland from Seattle and so far our dining experiences have been exceptional, this one however was a stellar failure. We picked the restaurant based on the proximity to a hotel our friends were staying at and the generally good reviews. Perhaps we hit a very off night but I cant say Ill be back for a second opinion, theres too many good restaurants in this town with far better fare and far more reasonable prices.

The food was wonderful but the service I received from the waiter was terrible. I ordered a beer, a salad and the garlic pizza. The beer came 20 minutes later and the pizza came without the salad. Another waiter brought it but there was no salad (which should have come first) so I ordered it again. The second waiter came back and asked me what kind of salad as I suppose my original order had not been recorded in their computer. The second waiter brought the salad quickly. The pizza was a little overcooked but is was delicious. It was double cooked pizza. That is my original waiter had forgotten about it just like the beer so they stuck it back in the oven and it came a little crispy. Despite this the pizza and the salad were delicious as was the ale, Towards the end my original waiter came by twice to check on me - it getting close to tip time so I left the usual 15% though the service was very bad, except for the second waiter. I noticed the people around me were served very promptly and their meals were wonderful as they all seemed to enjoy them. There was a lovely woman a table away so I passed the long waits surreptitiously glancing at her which helped pass the time. The hostess was very nice and helpful when I arrived and very decollete which was a nice treat. So if you like wonderful dining and dont get my waiter I recommend this place but when my extended family comes in December we will not dine here. This was my third restaurant check for our big night out and so far Brasserie Montmartre - two blocks away - wins hands down.

Went to Southpark tonight for Portland dining month. Had the clam chowder for a first course. Gave my husband several of my clams that were in their shells. When the waitress picked up our dishes my husband teased about the amount of clam shells he had knowing that most were mine. Waitress missed the joke and commented that we got a larger portion by accident noting that the Portland dining month portion should have been smaller. It left us wondering and we joked about the possibility we would be shorted in subsequent courses. When dessert came we were served only one scoop of salted caramel gelato, even though the dining month menu stated we should get two scoops. Really, really bad form and I believe it was purposeful, especially because when I called the waitresses attention to the error, she commented that they had compensated us by serving us a larger bowl of chowder than we were due.. The service was really slow too even though they were not busy. Really disappointed.

We came to this restaurant in search of some good seafood based on our hotels recommendation. There were three "fish of the day" options. Oddly, none seemed to be local fish and the only one they hadnt sold out of was escolar. Since I wasnt familiar with escolar, I looked it up on my Blackberry. This is another name for butterfish! This fish not edible in servings greater than about 6 oz, based on ones tolerance. Technically, it wont poison you, but it will cause unpleasant side effects. You can Google "butterfish" or "escolar" for all the details. This fish is banned from sale in some countries (Japan, Italy). I was surprised that this effect or the alias for the fish were not disclosed in any way. Most of the remaining dishes were prepared with bacon or other pork products, which makes it further limiting for those that dont eat pork. Anyhow, saved by the mobile internet, we left before ordering and had an excellent meal down the street at Jakes.

My new husband and I were referred to South Park by the concierge at our hotel, and they really hit the nail on the head. It was the perfect place to share a private dinner in celebration of our new marriage. The waitstaff was so friendly, and attentive. To help us celebrate they brought us some champagne and appetizers which were wonderful. I had the King Salmon and my husband had the Pork Ravioli. Both dishes were wonderful. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the accompanying vegetables and sauce were so good I found myself gingerly cleaning my plate with the bread, which was also wonderful. We finished dinner off with a vanilla bean creme brulee which, while it was not the most sturdy brulee Ive had, was just the right amount of sweet and flavor. The atmosphere was romantic, calm, and relaxing. The presentation of the food was warm and enticing. The restaurant as a whole was an excellent value, and I would absolutely eat there again.

The service and atmousphere was excellent. The oysters were pretty darn good. They were shucked perfectly and tasted fresh. I ordered a side of greens that were from a local farm and they were delicious! We also had their boarded smoked black cod and a burger with fries. The burger was just okay and was quite small... The fries were very fresh and delicious. The boarded smoked black cod was not so good. It was a very very small piece of cod served with 3 crackers and a puree spread. I didnt finish one bite of it. It was chilled and over smoked tasted salty like wet jerky... Not appetising to say the least... But as soon as i mentioned it (and since i didnt eat it) they took the plate and didnt charge me for it. Over all it was a very pleasant experience and the employees were all very nice. Im not sure if ill personally be back but id reccomend a try if you enjoy fine dining...
